In the novel, LMT journeyed thousands of miles to "return" the rare medicine CXZ had sent her through Zhao after hearing about his injuries. But in truth, it was an excuse to see him and offer her support. Despite their time apart, her feelings for him remained strong, and she couldn’t hold back her tears when she saw him limping.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ FROM THE NOVEL: How she reacted after learning of CXZ's injuries
"Mian Tang listened silently, clutching her skirt tightly. She couldn’t imagine that the proud man had now become... a cripple!
Aren’t you a divine physician? Didn’t you give me the medicine that can heal bones and tendons? Why don’t you go help him instead of wasting time here with me!" After listening to Zhao Quan's words, Mian Tang was silent for a moment, then suddenly questioned him angrily.
Zhao Quan, feeling wronged by Mian Tang’s outburst, had no choice but to tell the truth: "The medicine made from eagle bone flowers that can reconnect bones and tendons... comes from a snow mountain beyond our borders, and it only blooms once every hundred years, and even then, the blooming period is very short. It’s not something you can buy just because you have money. This medicine... sigh, I’ll just tell you! Actually... actually, it was Cui Jiu who gave it to me, and he asked me to prepare it for you. He happened to obtain it by chance, and there was only this small amount. He gave it all to me to bring to you. I advised him to keep some for himself, but he refused, insisting that I bring it to you quickly before it lost its effectiveness..."
Mian Tang pressed her lips tightly together. She hadn't expected that the ointment, which had worked so quickly, had been given to her by Cui Xingzhou through Zhao Quan. Even more, she hadn't expected that despite knowing his leg was crippled, he still gave all the medicine to her.
"Is he really going to be crippled? Are you lying to me again?" Mian Tang asked coldly. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ FROM THE NOVEL: LMT sees CXZ for the first time after their long breakup after traveling thousands of mile to return the medicine.
However, once she arrived in Youzhou, the question of how to meet Cui Xingzhou became a problem.
Unexpectedly, she encountered Prince Huaiyang, who was bidding farewell to the court envoy, much sooner than she had anticipated.
In the bustling marketplace, Mian Tang heard the crowd's cheers and shouts, and she followed the flow of people.
The man she hadn’t seen for so long was sitting in a carriage, dressed in a jade crown and wide robes, appearing relaxed. However, his skin seemed darker and his frame thinner compared to how she remembered him. His gaze was sharp as a sword, and both his brows and mouth were tightly set, giving him a severe and stern look.
When they reached the city gate, Prince Huaiyang disembarked from the carriage to see off the envoy. She noticed he was leaning on an ivory-handled cane as he slowly descended from the carriage. His tall frame no longer strode forward with the same graceful confidence as before but rather moved with a noticeable limp.
Even though Mian Tang had imagined countless times what he would look like leaning on a cane with a limp, seeing it with her own eyes still made her chest tighten, and she couldn’t help but shed tears.
She quickly wrapped her face in her headscarf, stifling the sob that was about to escape.
She had promised herself to forget him completely, but now that she saw him, she realized that her feelings had merely been buried deep within her heart. Seeing him again brought them all rushing back to the surface.
She had originally planned just to deliver the medicine to the prince's guards and be done with it. But now, she found herself wanting to see him personally... Yet at the same time, she didn’t want to speak to him. If only she could meet him in a dream, that would be the most fitting.
-------------------------------------------------- Drama version: In the novel she traveled thousands of miles to take care of him and even cried after seeing him limping!? BORING!!!! make LMT cold and indifferent and make him grovel like a dog. Now that's badass.
After she left her home to set up her own independent home to avoid marrying Prince Sui. But the household she set up looked like the house she shared with CXZ.
FROM THE NOVEL: After putting everything in place, Miantang breathed a sigh of relief. She looked at the small yard she had set up with satisfaction and asked Bi Cao to move in the newly bought cane chair to sit under the grape trellis with green leaves and feed the fish.
However, the heartless words of Bi Cao greatly reduced Miantang’s good mood, “Lady, don’t you think this yard is so similar to the North Street of Lingquan Town!”
Miantang almost choked on the tea she had just drunk. When she was trying to refute what was similar, she suddenly became silent.
Not really… There used to be grape trellises in the courtyard of North Street. In summer, Miantang likes to set a table under the grape trellis to eat. She once told Cui Xingzhou that it would be great if there were a small fish pond here.
There is also a long shelf specially made by the carpenter. There is also a set in the North Street Mansion, which can be used to dry clothes and cups, as well as sausages and bacon made by Servant Li
Miantang finished looking at the yard, got up, and went into the room.
The furniture in this room has been laid out. The arrangement of the bed and table is almost the same as that in Lingquan Town.
Miantang seldom feels depressed, but at this moment, she feels like hitting the wall. If the servant girl didn’t mention it, she didn’t realize that human inertia was so terrible.
Now she is independent and living alone. However, influenced by her memories, she has made her courtyard look like North Street.
On that day, Liu Miantang did not sleep very well.
The next morning, she asked Bi Cao and her workers to help her rearrange the beds and cabinets in the room.
Poor Bi Cao was so tired that she moved for a long time that her waist could not be still because of her words yesterday.
Miantang wanted to knock down the grape trellis, but she liked to eat and fish under the grape shelf so much that she could bear the similarity. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Drama: Awww she misses him dearly too. Nah, that's too sweet and obvious. MAKE HER COLD AS ICE WHILE HE GROVELS!

Everything is so much better. lol Also, the novel showed how much LMT longed for CXZ in such a cool way. After she left her home to set up her own independent home to avoid marrying Prince Sui. But the household she set up looked like the house she shared with CXZ.

In the novel, Prince Sui tries to marry LMT. So here's how CXZ responded.
Excerpt from the novel: "Miantang was stunned for a moment and suddenly thought that he had said that if she found another man, she wouldn’t blame him for bringing thousands of troops to settle the accounts. This madness…… He took it seriously…
More than twenty people sent by Prince Sui died thoroughly. Liu Pei is shocked and angry!

Did you make it to the part where CXZ won LMT back? It's so fundamentally different and better than what the drama portrays. They're still able to show how much CXZ misses LMT without turning him into a groveling simp.
When LMT left him he couldn't chase after her because of his military duties. But instead, he sent his men to spy on her to make sure that she didn't marry anyone. When Prince Sui sent goons to kidnap her for marriage, he marched his army to her doorstep and slaughtered them and then told Prince Sui to never try that shit again because his army already has the city surrounded.

When LMT was still hesitating to sign the marriage certificate, CXZ knew that his woman was whipped for him too so he took her to her bed.
Excerpt from the novel: Lord Li was in a hurry. His back was soaked. He did not rush to see The Prince when he entered the house. Instead, he took out a neatly folded white gown from the donkey’s back bag and changed it into a clean and fresh one. Then he entered the hall and waited for The Prince and Lady Liu to sign the marriage certificate.

Miantang thought Cui Xingzhou was joking, but unexpectedly, he asked Lord Li to send the marriage certificate. At the same time, she said angrily, “Have I agreed to sign the marriage certificate? You are not going to force me when you call people here!”
Cui Xingzhou put a gold hairpin in her hair and said in a long tone, “Didn’t you… Agreed last night.”
Miantang blinked in disbelief, unable to remember that she had ever answered him. So Cui Xingzhou put his thin lips close to her ears and said something low.
Miantang’s cheeks seemed to have been smoked by the heat, and they turned blushing red. Last night, when two people were fooling around, Cui Xingzhou indeed used a method to force Miantang when she was immersed in the rounds, and she agreed to sign the marriage letter.

It seems like these novels and drama are written and produced with very different demographics in mind. Anyone who enjoyed the novel would hate the drama.
Because of the terrible deviation from the novel, I have found myself re-reading the fall out of the leads and…
Well said. For the reasons you mentioned I had to drop this awful adaptation of a wonderful love story.
The novel version of LMT is far more compelling, showcasing her evolution through various phases:
The sweet, innocent LMT. The heartbroken LMT. The married LMT. Lu Wen. LMT with all her memories restored.
There was balance in their love. While CXZ repeatedly lied to LMT for fear of losing her, LMT kept her true identity hidden from him for the same reason. However, when CXZ discovered that LMT was Lu Wen, he bought her favorite street food rather than serving her a divorce letter, as she had feared.
Later, after Lu Wen regained her memories, she chose not to return to Ziyu because she realized that CXZ's love had loved every version of her, even the one that was hostile toward him. Unfortunately, the drama adaptation took this beautiful and intricate love story and reduced it to a cliché of the SIMP ML repeatedly chasing after the FL. In the novel, CXZ missed LMT but he was always confident in his ability to return her to his side. But his military duties got in the way.
I would've given this a solid 9/10 if it wasn't for the stupid unnecessary breakup at the end. But this is a solid 8.5/10. Can anyone recommend any other slow burns like this one where two broken people slowly heal each other while falling in love?
Oh, the groveling and simping is only getting started. They turned LMT into a cold-blooded blood-thirsty woman,…
Everything about that cave scene and drama is overdramatized. They ruined LMT's character I guess b. they wantec to make her more interesting and more badass from her novel counterpart. But they ended up doing the opposite.
In the novel, LMT doesn't fully regain her memory until the very end, but she maintains her sense of agency throughout. CXZ deliberately keeps her in the dark, fearing he might lose her. When she eventually uncovers his deception, she leaves. However, once she discovers her true identity, she initially hides it from CXZ, afraid of losing him too. But when CXZ learns that LMT is actually Lu Wen, he loves her even more. So after regaining her memory as Lu Wen, she rejects Ziyu, having fallen in love with the man who accepted every part of who she is.
But the drama turned this wonderful love story into this revenge story where the FL only cares about revenge while the ML is whipped.
Oh, the groveling and simping is only getting started. They turned LMT into a cold-blooded blood-thirsty woman,…
In the novel she never gave Ziyu another look, even after regaining her memories. But the drama had to tease some stupid love triangle by having them spend some "quality" time together to make CXZ look like pathetic love-sick dog.
