The thing is, we’re not asking for a realistic portrayal—we want someone who defies the odds and wins. Otherwise, what’s the point of being the protagonist? That’s why, when you read the original novels, you see women who are driven by ambition, with romance taking a back seat. But c-ent? They clearly don’t think a woman can carry a drama unless romance is front and center.

Why is “help” always conveniently packaged as a man swooping in and wrapped neatly in a romantic relationship?

Dylan and Bailu are friends, so why would they even care? I like him, but I’m not such a die-hard fan that I’d suddenly start hating dramas just for his sake. This one just isn’t it for me. Oh, and by the way, I didn’t even leave a negative rating—just a comment politely explaining my very valid dislike.

The issue with shows like this is that they’re always marketed as championing female independence, but when you actually watch, it’s clear that every step of her journey is facilitated by a man. A man helps her get a divorce, another saves her, yet another teaches her business. It’s like they can’t conceptualize a truly female-driven role without centering romance or male influence at every turn.

I’m not feeling this at all, especially with Bai Lu as the female lead. She already starred in a much better version of this with TTEOTM, and now this feels like the knockoff you’d find in a bargain bin. They really should have cast someone else to make it feel less like a budget remake.

If he had helped her, she wouldn’t have needed to seek out anyone else and end up in a den of demons. She also wouldn’t view him as her weak brother.

I know why the GP didn’t help him, and I don’t care about that. She’s not scheming—she’s just following the plan set by the alchemy academy leader, just like she recommended him to the guardians because of him. The ML liked Lian the moment he saw her, and it had nothing to do with her being a princess or backing him.

His pettiness and jealousy are one thing, but he’s clearly an incompetent king. All these powerful figures with real ability need to step up and remove him.

The emperor is so jealous and petty. I’ll never understand why characters with real strength always bow to these insecure, power-hungry emperors in shows like this.

Standing outside the mansion doesn’t count as torture. The FL is impulsive and childish, which fits well with the ML’s personality. We’re only halfway through the story, and the FL and ML barely interact for more than five minutes per episode. Let’s wait and see what all 40 episodes have to offer before making any final judgments.

To everyone claiming the GP is better than the FL, can you explain how? What has she actually done in the show that’s so impressive? We’re told she’s smart, but we haven’t seen much evidence of it. So far, she just shows up, looks stoic, and asks obvious questions. Maybe she’ll shine later, but right now, neither she nor the FL is adding much to the story.

To everyone criticizing the romance: while the princess may not add much to the story right now, she doesn’t detract from the drama either. The show isn’t wasting time forcing a relationship, so I don’t see the need for all these lengthy think pieces. Just enjoy the parts of the drama you like and overlook what you don’t. The constant complaining is getting tiresome.

She is cute and chaotic which matches him, but she does need to grow so it doesn’t become annoying.
