Will there ever be another sageuk with a focus on romance as good as this? it's been 94539 years and still…
Try The Red Sleeve.

Moon Chae Won proved that she can do a rom-com! I am not fan of her character but her portrayal was shockingly…
Yeah, her portrayal is great (didn't really expect a lot since I often see her more as a melodrama and sageuk actress), I dont get why she's getting hate just because her character has unlikable qualities. I bet if a popular hallyu actor is playing her character, the character will seem cool for them. Plus it's not like her character didn't learn her lesson, she grow throughout the drama.

I love this drama, but there's just too many things happening. I remember watching Good Doctor kdrama (also with autistic main lead) and there was a lot of things in the plot but some of them got solved in the episodes before the last two episodes. I'm just hoping the ending isn't rushed. Kudos to Park Eun Bin for her performance.

Title The Red Sleeve Spoiler
I wanna watch something as tragic as this. Please recommend
1. Yi San (2007) - If you dont mind a long sageuk (77 episodes) you can watch the 2007 Yi San drama, it's about the same characters but there's a lot more politics involved. Main difference from Red Sleeve is Yisan's queen is included in the drama, female lead (called Song Yeon here) is a painter, and there is another fictional character who loves the female lead (it's not an annoying love triangle however since this other guy is also friends with Yisan and he never insisted female lead to come to him).
2. Moon Lovers Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016) - most people who watched Red Sleeve recommended this drama. If you're not willing to watch an older sageuk or sageuk with more political scenes but still want a romance drama with lots of tragic scenes, then this one is for you.
3. The Princess Man (2011) - Joseon Romeo and Juliet, this drama also earned many awards just like Red Sleeve. There's a lot of tragedy too but the ending is bittersweet. The romance (of not just one but two couples) is greatly interwoven with the political events in the show.

I still don't get it when people call the ending of this drama as "cliffhanger" They literally ended everything…
i think people wanted a season 2 because the original drama had one. I do agree with you however that it doesn't need season 2. The drama's story is complete.

Does anyone know why Song Joong Ki and Kim Ji Won are not returning? Did they lose interest
Long story. Song Joong Ki and Kim Ji Won often express interest in joining the season 2 of the drama. The original plan was to do season 2 after a few months. They even announced season 2 early 2020. However, pandemic happened and the couldn't shoot immediately. I'm not sure what is their plan now, but in the original, there are some scenes supposed to be filmed in brunei. The whole cast supposedly had a clear 2020 schedule. But because of pandemic, they postponed season 2 and it was that SJK considered Vincenzo and Kim Ji Won did her lovestruck drama. 2021, still no clear plans from the studio whether they will do season 2. It was around this time SJK was asked about Arthdal and he expressed his love for it but havent heard from the studio. I doubt they lose interest, it was more like the studio and the actors couldn't communicate well and have a clear schedule together, the actors had to do other dramas/movies to keep themselves relevant. When the studio was clear in doing season 2, the actors were no longer available thus the recast.

What I don't understand is why they didn't film this as a whole 50 episode drama like the writer's previous projects…
same, I guess it's because of the newer kdrama audiences (mostly coming from local western tv shows) who aren't used to 50 episode dramas.

The cousin's husband thing was the least of our worries however the incest was worse. That damned sister wanted…
the sister marrying the half brother is based on historical facts. this drama was adapted from a chinese drama about a woman migrating to the past except the fact that the past they used was of the children of the first goryeo king.

does yi bang won and his wife hate each other in this drama?
hate themselves or hate each other?
if you mean the latter, they really loved each other. especially in the earlier episodes wife was really supportive of bang won and bang won comforted his wife upon their son's death. in the latter episodes they had some conflicts with each other because the wife wants to be more politically invloved but they were in good terms in the last few episodes.

after finishing this drama I was searching for more and more dramas of lee joon Gi. I have watched Again my life…
I think Time Between Dog and Wolf is the one you should watch. It's an older drama and though he acts well in all his shows, this was for me his second best acted drama after Flower of Evil.
