Exactly... I agree with you. I also wrote a similar post. This is like a theater show, we go only by what they say, we have no previous information of memory lane, nothing except their words... and OBVIOUSLY something is moving under the surface. ML is the way he is bc of ... exactly what??? He and his siblings are a product of a fossil immature insecure dad and weak mom. AND what else happened to him? He unlike his siblings has at least some strenght but turned the wrong way

yeah there is the luminous side, these people SURVIVED bc they somehow stuck it together
but there is not much beyond just surviving, unfortunately

I still say it is a masterpiece, the acting is superb, but what the drama provides is an insight into HELL
The one thing missing is HUMOR. I realized it is bc they are so bogged down in just BARE SURVIVAL that there is no place for humor.
There is no intentional spiritual process. They all strive to have enough to eat, not to make themselves better human beings. THE BASIC SURVIVAL IS THE DIRE PRIORITY.
There is also no social commentary, which shows major censoring.

I am related to China via healing arts and I hold a very very very deep respect for China and want to contribute to show my gratitude, and this movie helped me to understand them better. I will probably never understand them bc it is such a complex old place. But at least a little more. So I think you for that.

and also, the main issue with organized Christianity is exactly that, not being open and not thinking. Do you realize that there are ZILLIONS of enlightened beings in yoga and buddhism and just a handful of basically wannabes in Christianity? Mother Theresa is the best saint that Christians produced in how long? Compare that with ... well... zillions out East. Obviously they know their stuff. Food for thought.

Honey pie: you are not me. YOU MUST WATCH ONE EPISODE FOR AT LEAST 20 MINS TO FIND OUT WHAT **** YOU ***** THINK OF THIS DRAMA. Ok?

Also, kdramas re famous for U turns so we are all eagerly waiting to see the movement and praying it happens soon.

For example: Queen's house is 100 ep daily and first 30 episodes were trash like this, but then the FL took a U turn and started healing and then the drama became fun. Now it is one of the top kdramas in Korea. Strangely it was one of the top 10% from the start, and imo the start is total trash since FL was 1000% dumb.
For Eagle Brothers, or The Nice Guy, never made that U turn and became super boring. But ... For Eagle Brothers ended with 9.4 reviews on Viki although I would give it 5.0. The drama was DEAD after ep 20 but the audience was old people who didnt care that the FL never showed any interest in ML and acted basically as his teenage daughter and even married him without any hint of actually liking him. The Nice Guy is getting trashed by the comments as too many ppl compare that it is dull - but some still like it.. Dramas that I think are mindless and harmful like Head Over Heals or Weak Hero Class 1 etc have high reviews.

So - everyone has their taste. Find yours, BY WATCHING THE DRAMA

DO NOT TRUST THE REVIEWS AND WATCH FOR YOURSELF

Yeah I predicted last week that the evil stepmom is indirectly killing the kids, and I even wrot of some ways it could happen - based on what I saw in other dramas lol - and indeed

EH is the only character working hard to improve herself, the only one who is honest and communicates. Everyone else is an ignorant bozo.
EH is naive in many ways bc she is young and inexperienced and comes from a bad family - her brother is trash and her mother is clearly sexist and treats EH as the family slave and EH acts as a family slave - and the EH actress is rather weak so the sheer STRENGTH OF EH just doesnt come off as it should. EH is very brave. She speaks her mind honestly and she is fair and caring. And naive :) but she is learning. Seeing the potential of ML, being loyal waiting for the potential to unravel, and then kicking the fat arrogant as@ of the ML, seeing him for who he is instead of continuing to believe in his potential, is an act of great strength.

Since EH is the only one who is able to confront ML and tell him what is going on, SHE is the only one so far who is worthy of being his life partner.

The story of this drama will take off when he starts listening to her and self reflecting, bc only then, will he be worthy of being a human being to begin with.
He does not even self reflect. He is a SHUT-DOWN John Wayne dinosaur just like his dad. IF he continues like that, he is **not** worthy being a ML in the story.

We saw some good sides of ML so unless he showes more good sides and improvement, he is just wasting time on the screen, nobody wants to see a grumpy poker cold hateful face for too long. Get him off! and the dad too. The dad is such a loser, REPEATEDLY throwing his family under the bus to show some "male pride." What is the point of throwing money he doesnt have and then lose the house????? to look good to inlaws... What a MORON. And his wife, letting him do that without even a fight... what a loser, throwing her whole family under the bus just bc her husband intimidates her!!!! The dad can die soon.... there are too many men like him and it is totally waste of time to spend the drama time on that. Unless the dad changes somehow, his screen time should be minimal.

2ML is totally inadequate as a partner for anyone - except maybe the ML lol .
2ML is spineless scaredy cat, he lets EH get away with anything, he didnt confess for SIX years!!!! he has no maturity to TALK, he doesnt pay attention to his sister who is clearly already mentally ill. He too is a copy of HIS father who is totally uninterested in anything.

And as someone saud,,, ML and 2ML are the best pair and should get married, they understand each other and care for each other more than for anyone else.

The siblings are all trash and it is no fun to watch trash. Is there ANYTHING good about the siblings?

Show something GOOD somewhere that can GROW and let it GROW. A good story is about the PROCESS OF GROWTH

Omg this script is TRASH. The script writer is dragging showing their character flaws, the love story is bettween super immature and insecure people, all characters are immature, weak, ignorant, do not communicate, so UNLESS something happens fast to make them start getting wiser, this drama will end up as boring trash.

A GOOD SCRIPT LAYS THE FOUNDATION AND SHOWS THE CHARACTER FLAWS AT THE START and that is the most painful part of the drama LOL
But a good script shows JUST the scenes that illustrate and does not dwell on the dumbness of the characters at the moment. A good script STARTS THE STORY FAST ENOUGH before the audience loses interest, and STARTS SHOWING THE PROCESS OF CHARACTER GROWTH no matter how small it is.
TO THE SCRIPT WRITER, I SUGGEST WATCHING "FAMILYHOOD" movie from 2016 TO SEE WHAT A MASTERFUL SCRIPT IS. In 1:30 hrs, we see how selfish the FL was, we see her fall, we see her rise, we see her fall, and we see her fix herself, and we see amazing social commentary and amazing communications and amazing PROCESS OF GROWTH. And it is super fun.

DRAMAS ARE ABOUT STORYTELLING AND A GOOD STORY FOCUSES ON THE PROCESS OF GROWTH... not just showing what is bad.

WE SAW WHAT IS BAD IN THIS DRAMA WITH THESE CHARACTERS. MOVE ON ALREADY!!!!!

So this is a 50 ep drama so I would say up to about 5-10 max episodes is plenty enough to lay the foundation of how dumb the characters were at the start - because that provides the contrast to the rest of the story, how much they grew.
However, for this drama, 5 episodes of showing their muck is plenty enough bc the script is dragging it too much.

This drama does not have any clearly mature characters.
The one with most honesty and integrity and communication is Eun Ho, but she is so naive and not mature enough.
Also that actress is not capable of handling the role. Please no more puckering of lips to look cute, it just makes her look dumb, and focus on ACTING. Act more convincingly.

ML acting is super easy bc he is just grumpy cold and that is super tiring to watch. Get that jerk off the screen.

Male lead is too cold and materialistic and seeing his grumpy face too much on the screen is just boring. His father too. Both of them are super dumb, and the kind of male we see too much in real life, so KEEP THEM OFF THE SCREEN as much as you can, and show them only if you must, unless they start changing.

The cheabol family is also all stupid - mentally unwell sister and nobody is helping her, spineless son who cannot confess in SIX YEARS!!!!!, and totally uninterested father and litterally a skiller "mom". As I said, she is killing the kids indirectly but nobody is helping the sis.

and Eun Ho's family is also stupid - yet another parasite kid

And ML family is also all stupid - parasite materialistic dumb daughter, weak lost son, cold calculated eldest - copy of the John Wayne dad, weak intimidated mom, super boring proud DUMB DUMB DUMB father the fossil from the patriarchal prehistoric times - the eldest son is just like the dad....

SO IF THE ELDEST SON STAYS LIKE THE DAD, THEN HE IS NOT WORTHY OF BEING ML IN A STORY. Then his story is the story of a zillion other closed off, emotionally dead, calculated males that we see every day everywhere. WHY waste time to make one of those into ML of a stiry that last 100 hours????? Please!!! spare us that torture!!!!

All characters are faulty, materialistic, weak, and/or cold. NOBODY COMMUNICATES.

THE SCRIPT WRITER CANNOT PROCEED LIKE THIS FOR TOO MUCH LONGER BC THIS IS SUPER BORING.

THe script can drag the bad characters and the initial trashy characters setup IF it provides balance into their good sides, and if there are some "good" characters, people with integrity and care.
The first few episodes were interesting bc we got to see the happy smiley caring warm side of the ML and then his calculated cold materialistic anti-emotional side. So the CONTRAST made it interesting bc we are presented with a person who has the POTENTIAL and also CHALLENGES so what will he do to overcome? THAT is where the story is!!!!!

THe same with the FL. We saw her strength, dealing with customers, family, etc. and we got to see her weakness, having too much trust in a totally DEAD COLD arrogant male pushing her away, and clinging to him based on her assessment of his POTENTIAL. Clearly she is fully aware of his potential and is trying to connect the dots, BUT it is clear that his evil side took control and he is a lost case. So drop him asap. And she did. Good for her.

So far, Eun Ho is the only honest character who is making effort to self improve.
But bc she is naive and bc the actress is rather weak and not convincing, it doesnt come off as strong as it SHOULD have.

I was hoping till about ep 5 and then I realized that NOTHING will ever happen. This is just one of those "slice of life" dramas where we watch ppl eat and pee and fight and go through their daily routine without ever having one thought in their head kinda thing.

I personally think that SJ is working hard to destroy the hierarchy that opressed her for so many years, and that she wants to shoot down GC and become the CEO.

I dislike 2ML as he has no spine, no courage.... he is a snowflake.. he is clingy... I find him slimey bc he doesnt talk but hangs around like a puppy, following the FL.... imo he is stuck to her like a burr - is that stalking???? ..... . How come that nobody says that 2ML is staliking FL???
Imo 1ML imo is likeable in some ways... in his happy real moments, he is charming He is definitely flawed and closed. But has a real side underneath it. While the 2ML has NOTHING, he is fluffy weak character and a scaredy cat. He supposedly loves the FL for 6 years and NEVER told her anything and is super clingy and boring, chasing her around and following her like a puppy, inserting himself in every scene he could. I dont call him a stalker but a weakliing.
This is my opinion.
SO YOU NEED TO WATCH IT AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING IN THIS DRAMA :)
