It’s hinted in early episodes but everything really becomes clear after ML’s friend catches old man taking to the dark entity (evil smoke). I think it’s episode 3 (but maybe end of ep. 2?). After that, old man and our hero have a discussion and old man tells ML that he must get to Tier 4 in the next 3 months, otherwise his family is in danger or something along those lines.

I promise, there’s no emphasis on romance :)

Let’s be honest, everyone was relieved that guy was gone, so they didn’t ask any questions. And, I mean, they have a huge territory — for all they know the guy could have decided to become a hermit and work on his cultivation 😁🤣

Sifu wants to inhabit Han Li’s body. It turns out Sifu isn’t an old man — he’s 37 but aging rapidly. And the only way to remedy the situation is to take over Han Li’s body.

TDHR was great until iQIYI decided to change ending from happy ending to very blah ending (not even an open ending, just a non-ending).

Events of episodes 12 & 13 were completely unnecessary. I wish screenwriters of dramas would stop coming up with ridiculous things like that. There are no prizes for Most Creatively Frustrating Ways to Make Drama Longer 🥺😳😒

Very good write up. As you may know, both donghua and this drama are being made by the same team (shown in BTS video) and adopted from the same source novel (well, multiple books). So some things in the live action adaptation may be different and closer to the novel (people who read the book seem to think drama is pretty close to the novel except the harem part, likely due to censorship rules). With regards to romance, if I didn’t know HL & NW were a future pair, I’d not see any romantic hints between them. NW rejected HL at the trial and doesn’t really think much of him through 10 episodes. But maybe that’s different perspectives between a donghua watcher and a typical romance-drama watcher ☺️

We all joke but apparently that is how their outfits were described in the novel 😳

This feels like a passion project by a team without a huge budget. Based on BTS, live-action is being made by the same team as animated version (donghua) and they have been at it for 10+ years.

I’m glad everyone said to not expect much romance — our hero is completely disinterested in it so far. And the writer even made sure to place Han Li in a separate sect from Nangong Wan. Not that NW is very impressed by HL so far. Maybe Episode 11 will change that a bit.

For now — yes. There’s nothing about how much of the novel will be adapted and if there’s going to be another season. Maybe they will end at a satisfying point and just put a link to the donghua version 😁

It was a real jade but he may have been too weak to use it fully. So she helped to heal him by using her powers to completely withdraw poison. At least, that’s what I understood without having read the novel.

It gets better starting with Episode 3. Fair point about CGI/VFX — it’s not very impressive, especially during flying/soaring scenes. But watching it for the story and so far it’s solid through first 10 episodes.
