P.S. That scene looked kind of strange because why would you get in a sauna device fully clothed — your clothes would get very sweaty 😓

The whole storyline stopped making sense after FL barged into a hospital room full of reporters and screamed “mom!” at a perfectly safe mom who wasn’t dying or in a coma. Writers really were very sloppy in how their relationship was revealed. It could’ve been something pre logical like them actually going outside and paparazzi catching them.

Writing definitely leaves a lot to be desired. There’s only so much good actors can do to help it 😳

I was excited when Ep. 3 started by showing off relationship with her mom and started to believe writers finally got something right. But then they came up with an absurd way for their relationship to be revealed (very dumb of FL). The writers don’t seem to know what they want — a cozy village romcom (like Once Upon a Small Town) or something more serious & angsty (like The First Frost). And characters keep making decisions which are very illogical 🙄

Agree. This drama feels like a collection of scenes designed to make us laugh or emote, but a lot of them just don’t make any logical sense even if you put yourself in a character’s shoes. I’d highly encourage everyone to watch “Once Upon a Small Town” (good village drama, very short and almost all chill/cozy), “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” (same type of helpful male character but who is a lot nicer), and “The First Frost” (FL also sleepwalked due to trauma).

The answer is: because writer(s) aren’t very good. There’s a lot of puzzling decisions being made. Like when ML & FL met but neither wanted to give a right of way — that’s something that might only happen when one of the people is very impolite, but 99.9% of the time one person will just let another person pass because it’s quicker than arguing. Or in ep. 3 how reporters barged into a VIP’s hospital room… or how FL yelled “mom!” at the top of her lungs in a presence of a ton of reporters (when it was clear mom was fine… she wasn’t dying or in a coma). Or how the channel manager wants to ruin a perfect setup (1 great cosmetics sales person + 1 great non-cosmetics) and is making both of them mad; especially since FL selling cosmetics again will likely resurrect articles/stories about the incident that caused sever damage to people. Just a lot of unexplainable things. 🙄

He made her write her address down on a contract she signed promising never to come into her house (it was when she was trying to catch escaped chicken). Let’s be honest, there’s no need for an address on a contract like that so it was clear the writers were setting up a scenario like this one.

I love light hearted dramas, but have to admit that writing of this drama leaves much to be desired 😳

Ohh… did you enjoy Born to Run though? I love TFF even despite the horrible mom — it’s just quite heartbreaking 💔 to watch flashbacks. But it did make the last two episodes super nice when FL got accepted into ML’s family & could relax and be herself. Actually, last two episodes of TFF should be a blueprint for drama endings — instead of doing something trope-y like breakup & reunion in last episode, spend more time on happy times (and don’t do it as a 5-minute special). I really like You Are My Glory not just because it has two sets of nice parents but also because it shows development of a relationship and even life after marriage.

Tencent / WeTV needs to hurry up, get aboard WCR train 🚂 and finally release this drama!

I haven’t watched those shows yet, but to me the worst parent is FL’s mom in The Firat Frost. What she had done / not done makes other drama parents look like angels 👼

When I rewatch Fireworks of My Heart, I skip most scenes with the crazy mom 🫣

Even in C-dramas it’s common to have parents like that. That’s why I appreciate dramas where both sets of parents (ML & FL) are nice and supportive.

If you want something very interesting and short (K-drama length), check out Mobius (it’s a detective drama; more of Hong Kong-style with quite a bit of action elements); Fake It Till You Make It (probably one of the best realistic romance dramas [K or C]); and then if you want to chill to a throwback great high school/college drama, there’s When I Fly Towards You.

Episode lengths vary a lot in C-dramas, from 30-45 minutes to 40-45 to 1 hour+.

Tencent/WeTV, YOUKU, iQIYI and Mango TV are streaming platforms (like Netflix) but some of the better/more popular dramas from their catalog do end up on broadcast TV in China, I believe.
(Interestingly, some dramas are so expensive to produce that they are co-funded by multiple platforms, e.g. Pursuit of Jade aired simultaneously on Tencent/WeTV and on iQIYI).
Another interesting fact — in China there’s an official cap on what percentage of budget can be spend on actors.

You can’t change anyone’s mind on the Internet, so it’s better to move on after blocking that person (if they are clearly a troll/hater/anti). Sometimes people have different preferences and it’s okay, but those normal people usually just move on and don’t try to give drama a score of 1 and then loudly rage-bait in the comments.
