No redemption arc for ML's mother.

In the novel, many project the aunt's tragic love story on FL and ML but don't worry, it is a HE in the novel. ML is definitely not his uncle.

There is no masked man in the novel. I think there is a mask because the drama can show the past.

By the way, though the uncle was ambitious, wicked/evil, he seems to be really in love with Cai Pingshu.

It's true that there were many characters introduction in the beginning and it doesn't really help that the guys in the sect look a lot like each other.
Back in the 80's, faces were not that homogeneous and secondary characters would have specified hair and costume styles. So it was quite easy to identify them.

It's been years that I was not this interested in pure wuxia dramas.

They are independent women who stand for their principles.

Cai Pingshu was in love with the dad's twin.
The dad's twin had a tragic childhood, made him very ambitious and craving for power.
It's a tragic love story.
ML's dad met Cai Pingshu only once in his life, but it was said that he wished he could help fer so she didn't have to suffer this much (it was juste before here duel against Nie Hengcheng).

ML's mother was indeed beyond redemption.

Well, I thought so but then I remembered a scene in a trailer video where Cai Zhao's parents happily drink the breeze wine with Lei shibo so I don't think it's him.

I'm still reading the novel but my hypothesis is that the real bad one behind chang's family massacre is Song Yuzhi.
I think that he got to know about the divine art from the Mu family (the one that got Nie Uncle berserk, the one that Elder Jour has in the drama) thanks to his maternal grandfather (yan sect leader) records, and he eventually got to know about the 3 requirements to learn this art : dragon saliva, special night orchids, and the purple jade gold mellow.
Thanks to his grandfather's records, he may have known a lot of secrets from people from both Beichen and Li sect, thus having leverages on many people to manipulate them.
As far as I have read the novel, he did get the dragon saliva and he was in the hidden village with the last special night orchids. And he is in a situation where the purple jade is required if he wants to get his power 100% back to fight his wicked half-brother who harmed the Song family's sect.

However, though Song Yuzhi may be accountable for all of what happened like one or two years before the Chang family massacre, who was responsible of all the trickeries during Cai Zhao's aunt time? I hope Mu Zhengyang was not so evil 🤔

I actually didn't picture him this way after reading his introduction in the novel 😅 I thought he would be more the warrior type 😅😅

Don't worry, you're not the only one. I've been listening the ost all day, though refreshing, many songs reminded me of the 90's HK wuxia dramas.
There's a vibe of Jin Yong's Legend of condor heroes and New heavenly sword and dragon saber (80's TVB version).
Nothing is either black or white.

1. The truth behind lady Yang's death involves powerful people (ministers and maybe imperials). If a "simple assassination case" can't be resolved for 10 years, Grandma Rong sure knows that it is no trivial matter.

2. Grandma can't risk a business providing for thousands people only to save one person. She doesn't care about morals, she cares about a global business.

3. In previous episode, she told him she didn't care about his past, she just wanted him to be honest with her now that they are together. I think that she had bad experiences with corrupted officials, she doesn't trust them so she couldn't risk her foster mom's safety.

4. She wanted to test him.

I agree with you. It was so refreshing to see Cheng Lei in these multiple characters role. My first drama with him was My Journey to you, then Legend of the female general and he has always been serious.

Thanks to him, I watched the drama till the end.

Song Yi was very good in emotional scenes where she cried etc. But she's not the powerful general I was expecting, which is the cas here with Li Qin. Fu Yi Xiao is so daring. I'm watching the show for this couple and not only for one of the leads.

It took time for me to really appreciate shadow love. ML is very cool. ML and Darren Chen's fightings scenes were good to watch. But after witnessing Li Qin's female warrior, her powerful yet elegant fights, you might feel that something is lacking with shadow love FL.

Yummy (x3) has the kind of craziness I used to see in late 90's-00's HK drama. They just don't care and I loved it.

So right, now I'm feeling much more at ease seeing him in this kind of rôle.
Though it was also nice, the righteous marquis.

Li Qin is slaying the female warrior role, the ennemies to lovers plot is so savage and intense, and the amnesia resolution is refreshing.

Feng Sui Ge : end of ep 17 when he was lying down and waking up, we can see the wedge heel

Fu Yi Xiao : end of ep 18, she's with Miss Ling walking in the street. First seconds of ep 20, she was in a rocking chair and we can clearly see her right shoe 😅

Am I the only one noticing the wedge heels for Fun Yi Xiao and Feng Sui Ge?
I'm not sure she wore them when fighting her friend but she definitely have them when walking besides Miss Ling.
