How naive I was: I initially thought that first 10 episodes were so long and "empty" with life in countryside. Then when war was coming to them, those 10+ episodes were actually the best because they were building up the warm relationships. No hot passion but we were enjoying all the "little" things that made their encounter so precious, why they would fight for each other.
Director is very good.

That is exactly what I thought about Three lives three worlds, the pillow book. They were second couple in Three lives three worlds, ten thousand peach blossom, and the chemistry was quite good. Then they had their own drama, same universe but definitely not the same quality in production, direction etc.

It's not easy to do but they were praising Cai Pingshu for standing for her principles, they should have done the same.

But the success of this drama is definitely the music, either songs or BGM, it reminds me of the90's and 00's (still a little bit far from the 80's HK wuxia's).

I didn't finish the novel of Lost you forever (also know as "Trauma forever" for a Xiang Lu's supporter like me). The first chapters were quite respected on the drama adaptation but I was so heartbroken with Xiang Lu / Tan jianci's death that I couldn't finish the drama.

The initial interactions between MQY and CZ were indeed important, but what I also appreciated was those with her seniors and how they were described.

For example: 4th senior was so fun with his quest for the ideal duel.

This could have been a very good wuxian like legend of condor heroes but either more episodes were required or they should have decided to not show some arcs to fully develop the others.

In novel, it's even more satisfying that he was confronted to a truth when he was dying: despite his speeches about doing heroic things for the world with Cai Pingshu, he was weak when presented to the opportunity of becoming Yin Dai's successor and marrying the "beautiful" Yon Sulian.

Drama is good but edition failed. Going from initial 40ep to 37 episodes led to decisions that made things too rushed/cut. Events just happened because they were important in the novel.

You should read the novel, so much more background éléments. Of course, reminiscents of the past but it feels so natural.

In the novel, Mu Qingyan was a proud and strong character. He was educated and resourceful. And of course, handsome etc.

This made it perfectly believable that Cai Zhao would fell easily for him.

Still, with him deceiving her multiple times it's also very justified that she has trust issues, in spite of being so attracted to him.

But he still fought to fit with her, she saw his efforts, she is not just pitying him because of his diminished health...

The drama didn't succeed in showing how she fell for him. There may be hints, but weak ones. It just happened that she is worried he may have died facing the white snake, it just happened that she is worried about his persisting poison so she had to go to help him reconquering his sect leader post...

Still, I'm happy I watched this drama.

I love how the drama started, but it failed to deliver how engaging the novel was.

I didn't pay attention at first but Mu Qingyan being poisoned really killed his aura, specifically since the Li sect arc. He was unnecessaryly weakened by this poison, we didn't need all this blood and Cai Zhao being worried because of that.

Besides, going from 40 ep to 37 episodes has led to edition arbitrages that kind of ruined the flow of the drama. Events just happened because they were key in the novel but there was no with previous environment, it's all about fulfilling a checklist.

It's a real pity because the cast did a good job, the initial story is very interesting and it looked like the budget was there.

You can check Perfect match (she's main lead in the 2nd part i.e. ep 11-19), I really like her in this drama, very elegant, noble and resourceful. She acted her role very well.

In Story of Kuning palace, she was secondary character and Bai Lu's was very / too present so I almost didn't remember her performance.

Ep 28: I am visually lost, MQY looks really taller than CZ when they were talking near the water while in the Chang grave, he looked like he was only 10cm taller (his shoulder was right near to CZ's)... So is it only a visual effect in Ep 28? Did they give CZ heels? So disturbing 😅
