Was Xu Hong Qi replaced in her position as leader of the factory because of her ties to the old regime?
She's not the most likeable character but I could relate to how she felt when she lost her position. After spending so long at her job and then being demoted in front of everyone would be a bitter pill to swallow. I know she still has a job, but still...it's hard to accept.
I hope this gets added to viki or something like that. I don't want to subscribe to any more streaming services at the moment. I think Wang Rui Chang is a good actor and I want to watch the series, but I'm holding out hope I can see it without paying Tencent for it.

I think it's interesting that the official government stance at the time was that all people should be treated the same, and yet Lin Mei is hung up on the way other people will perceive her husband's job. Fei Ting wants to earn money but he doesn't want to work in an office all day. Lin Mei and her family seem to think that makes him a lower class person. I guess old habits are hard to break.

I think in Chinese families, sons are expected to care for their elderly parents and daughters go with their husband to care for his parents. Lin Mei's family wanted her to marry someone that would have connections so her brother could get a better job, and therefore he'd be better able to care for his parents. Is that a good thing? No, because they're putting themselves above her happiness, but from what I've read, it wasn't an uncommon practice at the time. Hopefully her family will get what they really deserve by the end of the series.

I think the murder mystery game was supposed to be a twist on the 'meet cute' trope, and they did use it to show that the female lead was very intelligent and able to solve problems in an unconventional manner. However, it would've been nice if the writers had given more emphasis to the game later on in the series.

I can see your point. To me he's acting that way because he had regained his memory much sooner than he let on, so he chose to act silly because that's how people expected him to act. In other words, he was intelligent enough to be sly and get what he wanted. But that's just my point of view. I respect your opinion.

However, I think we need to consider that this story is set in a time frame that was 50 years ago, when traumatic brain injuries were not as well understood as they are today. It was a period of upheaval, and doctors may have had very little training in how to deal with such injuries. Even if they had understood, they may not have had facilities available necessary for him to receive the treatment he needed.
I do think your points are valid, and if those opinions keep you from enjoying the series, I respect your choice.

I can see that. The characters in the story that were only after money without trying to better themselves or society didn't end up doing as well as our ML/FL did. SML was so concerned with success and status that he missed out on a loving relationship with two possible partners.
All he had to do was talk to Xi Guang to figure out what was going on. Instead he comes across as trusting others but not her, and that put her in an embarrassing position. Did he ever apologize for doing that? I'm not sure...

I finally decided that the whole purpose of the SML was to point out that actually communicating with your intended partner about how you feel and what you want in a relationship is the key to success. Lin was up front with Xi Guang about his intentions, and she was honest with him about her lingering feelings for the SML. Lin was mature enough to let her choose (but I think he was pretty sure he thought he'd win!). The SML never gets around to telling Xi Guang about what he feels or even that he likes her until it's too late. Moral of the story: don't beat around the bush. Be straightforward in your dealings with people.

The young actor who plays the young Feng Mu Yang looks a lot like Arthur Chen, IMO. That was great casting.
