Shine is objectively better quality, but harder to watch - ie takes more mental effort. This show is easier to gulp down - like eating fast food. At least for me.
I have put Shine on hold for now as I want to watch it when Im in the mood.

I have read that the kdrama industry is quite bad in the way they treat foreigners - sort of like an "apartheid system" for koreans v foreigners.
I do cringe when they find any white person to speak english and this is embarrassing both in kdramas and cdramas. They are random white people (though usually not as white as the koreans of chinese actors).

Firstly, I think this article was written in such a way as to cause get people to be offended - it may not be accurate reporting.

Secondly, I think it would be interesting to ask the actor feels instead of speculating how he supposedly felt. Maybe he laughed at his accent as well with the person dubbing him. We are all projecting how he would feel.

He probably knows that his role was going to be dubbed, He would be aware that he can not speak Mandarin or that he has an accent and thus would not see the comment as a personal insult. Its not like his craft was being insulted. Something that he can do is found amusing.
If i am a doctor I would be offended if you insulted my medical knowledge, but wouldnt care if you laughed at my acting skills - as I dont value them and Im aware that its not my expertise.

People seem to be complaining about show over here. I like B/P so hope it does well.

I dont know why he hasnt been pivoted to main roles by decision makers. Mark has been around for a while and I would have expected him to have more success because he has all the qualities required - other lesser actors have surpassed him.

If I cant put in the work to get the accent right then I would laugh if someone said that about my attempt at speaking a foreign language because its true. And if it was mandarin -a tonal language i would also have to apologise in case i said anything unintentionally that offended.

The actor should also be embarrassed for not having the skills for the job. If the actor could not speak appropriately for the role, he should not have accepted the job. Performances are there to be judged and critiqued. And my understanding is that even Chinese actors are dubbed.

If you to look at the intention of the person making the comment. I think he was amused and trying to be funny, rather than trying to be intentionally unkind.
