I think I've come to the conclusion that pure fluff romances need to meet certain standards in order for me to watch them fully. I loved Meet Yourself and Hidden Love, probably because there was a deep maturity and fleshed out storylines, with a good supporting cast. This one was basically going through the motions of daily life. Not a bad thing, by any means, and I can see why people love this type of drama. The FL was a little too shy/nervous, and at times gave me high schooler vibes. I hated how she always brought up "what if we break up" scenarios. ML was amazing. Full stop. The music was great, the food looked tasty, and the chemistry was flowing (eventually). Unfortunately, I dropped this. I think it was a mixture of the FL's character not resonating for me and there not being a great storyline behind this.
By the last episode I was like, okay...yeah...evil person says they're at their weakest, attack (for the 100th time) but then BAM romance and I no longer care. The plot was exciting at first and there was a lot of cool action, but after hearing how it's all about killing the one powerful person over and over and they're only go-to is 'ok they're weak let's strike...' it gets really repetitive and boring. Not to mention this has one of my 'favorite' tropes: never tell your significant other anything ever until they find out themselves. I hate that so much, and oh boy do they do this often. HOWEVER, the romance in this was unlike any xianxia/fantasy I have ever seen. This was on another level of emotional wonderment. The FL and MLs chemistry made my heart burst. I loved every scene and my goodness was there a ton. If you only care about that, then this is your drama.
I love all the cooking since it's a drama based on her skills as a cook, but they take up a lot of time in round one describing, admiring, and tasting the dish; and the stolen ingredient bit was just overdone. Round 2 was so quick, but overall the 8th episode really had no great qualities to it. We're 8 episodes in.... i hope the story doesn't wrap up quickly and we can gradually get to a satisfying end. Next episode preview looks somewhat promising.
This is drama #120 I've seen and this is one of the best. I've stupidly put this drama off for so long because it's 20 episodes. If that's why you're hesitating, don't. It's worth every minute of watching. Ji Chang Wook was phenomenal, the chemistry between him and FL was fantastic. The entire cast was great. Action, mystery, thriller, romance...holy cow, 10/10!
The team casting had awesome chemistry and this show was mostly teamwork/gaming oriented. To have a little more substance about the team members in the first half would have been nice vs thrown at us in the last quarter of the series which felt disjointed. I'm just bummed the supporting cast didn't get their dues since they were featured so often and they were so good. The gaming was fun. I've played MOBAs for a long time, so unfortunately I had to skip through those parts. It just felt all over the place and when there were the animation parts it was hard to follow when I couldn't tell who was who. ML and FL were ok... FL, 'smiling' never smiles and takes everything too seriously, while ML is the brooding captain turned hornball after they get together. They were...cute...but I hate when they make the FL just seem like the ML is in her way or annoying her. Please stop doing that. It's so off putting. Overall, this was above average. Worth the watch.
Very fluffy storylines. The generals storyline was so boring though... Pingwei and the princess had a very fun storyline that I actually preferred over the generals. The Qi family had some fun, scheming, story beats - but overall it was pretty boring... Loved the FLs quirkiness and the martial arts scenes were all fun to watch. Overall, very average - but if you just want to shut your brain off and enjoy the ride it's worth watching at least once.
Reasons why this show is severely underrated: 1. The cinematography is outstanding, it sets the mood, it makes you feel how the characters feel. The lighting, the washed colors, the empty feelings. You feel this drama. 2. The acting is outstanding. The Romeo and Juliet type love, the loneliness that each character portrays, the way everyone gets in their own way, but yet the character development throughout was notably evident and wonderful. This drama was a wonderful showcase of healing and beautiful love. If you want to cry, laugh, argue with your TV, root for the characters, and just feel every emotion - watch this. 8.3 rating is so wrong.
do you think the wardrobe department was like, please...please give me more wigs for Bai Lu... ? because oh my gosh I feel terrible for her one note hair for the entire series. I went through the entire stage of grief while looking at it. okay, outside of that - the supporting male cast being thrown at FL for the entire first half (or a little longer) was hard to watch. Chu Nan getting his happy ending was infuriating. He Yu tossing girls around and basically moving on so fast from my girl was anger inducing. Why'd they write the male supporting cast this way? They're making men look like pigs. yuck. ML and FL were good for the most part. This drama was OK. It kept me entertained. FLs parents are probably top 5 in my list of amazing parents for CDramas. FL and her friends had great chemistry together, but this drama/story/plot was just super average overall.
This story was a little difficult to follow in the beginning, but everything came together eventually. It was an interesting story, with my "favorite" trope (not ever telling the other person anything until they find out themselves)... The romance was cute, their chemistry was there, the comedy was evident when the ML is was playing the widow part, but there wasn't anything.... special? The ending really irked me. Are they just going to stand by oblivious with the king? Open ended questions like this just rub me the wrong way. I still liked this, I enjoyed it, the OST was wonderful, the acting was great. Worth watching for sure. :)
16 episodes wasn't enough. I could have watched this story unfold forever. Great character development, wonderfully beautiful friendships and relationships... what a fantastic drama ❤️ 🐳
You know what's refreshing? A strong, assertive FL who isn't shy and isn't afraid to be flirted with. You know what else is refreshing? A ML who's not afraid to flirt (respectfully), clears up misunderstandings immediately, and realizes when he needs to grow up and does. This is a gem of a drama. The chemistry is off the charts. Yes, the MLs acting is a bit stiff and flat - but who cares. This slow burn romance was everything it needed to be and I can excuse the meh acting. Sure, there wasnt really an engaging plot/story, but all is forgiven when romance is at the forefront of this show. WOW, 8.2 seems low even if that is "above average" for MDL standards. I love finding these diamonds.
I love strong FLs in dramas and I think the first 2 episodes are solid. I'm crossing my fingers when we reach episode 8-9 it won't go downhill like others have this year. She also needs to stop smiling so I don't automatically think Hermes! in my brain 😆
