The last few episodes literally went off the rails. I have no idea what the story turned in to. However the OST was amazing and the romance was 🔥 And by cdrama short standards I'll take that as a win. :)
I'm usually OK with tropes in dramas that are light hearted or fluffy but this level was too much. Good chemistry amongst the cast but ultimately a very boring second half.
Overall a lovely watch. ML and FL didn't seem to have the chemistry I was hoping for. By the end of the show the lack of romance between the two just made me think they were BFFs over husband and wife. However their dynamic with one another, including the princess when she was there, was easy to watch, and he was a fantastic green flag ML. The cast as a whole was amazing and the sisterhood amongst the women was beautiful to watch. I found it a little jarring how we had two separate couples that contained spousal abuse. One which was played off as jovial and comedy, and the other which was horrific. Odd that they'd have two sides of the coin written in this show. Regardless, the story itself was well written (even though these political focused historicals tend to drag in the middle), the character growth was so great to witness, and the villains were very good at being villains. Give it a watch! I very much enjoyed this one.
I was thinking as I was watching this that this is the rom com fix I needed since I feel like I exhausted most. Then the fakeout with the show writers making us think Dong goo was her son when it was her brother she was "burdened" by while referring to him as a dog. sigh. What's so wrong with writing him in as her son in the story? That whole plot point ruined the drama for me.
I invested in this story while airing because I thought it will be lighthearted, funny, and wonderful until the end. Now these spoilers got me 😡😡😡 and I'll probably drop this.
This is the Japanese version of a Chinese short or vertical drama: super short, over the top, over dramatic soap opera type show. With that in mind - this at face value isn't bad, but this dramas synopsis was so so wrong. The fake relationship, revenge driven plot was all of 1 1/2 episodes. If you like over the top dramas or have a secret love for cdrama Shorts and verticals (like I do) I think this one is a decent watch.
I’m gonna write this rant here without pointing fingers at anyone, but I really need to say this. I’m so tired…
you can be a femisitic style of show, showcasing the strengths and determination of women without undermining the males in the family to be acting like almost complete morons. It was funny at first but where's their growth? I feel like it's trying to be there, so maybe it'll pay off closer to the end. The mother of yangyang completely abandoned her child leaving the father to raise her and force him to grow up, but you rarely see that, and that to me is also disappointing. However, the show isn't over... its not lost on me that things can progress, but why do the writers have to go this far into the series where we have to have the same character as we did episode 1...?
The men in the Shen family are honestly unbearable with their tiny brains and big mouths. Like, calm down already…
honestly I thought it was funny at first and I laughed a lot...but now we're 20+ episodes in and I'm like, okay...I'm over this if the show is going to continue making them seem like morons.
The FL was weird. Forced kissing, a shrine of photos of the ML (even a whole wall of his framed photos if you caught that), then posting it online for all to see like that's something to brag about..afterwards she drove the ML crazy after he regretted rejecting her and he tried to make up for that including pursuing her. OST was awesome. When the leads started their relationship I had no issues, but it took forever to get there so we had to deal with a lot of FLs antics of stringing him along when he was nothing but (mostly) wonderful to her.
The fact that they can somehow stretch this show out to 32 episodes concerns me. Are we really going to draaag out the ancestor plot to continue with the story... ? Outside of that this kooky family is my comfort food and I love them and the Princess :D
I had a rollercoaster of emotions with this one. On one hand, the romance and the leads chemistry was off the charts and beautiful mixed in with the wonderful OST. The FLs assertiveness and no nonsense attitude was a welcomed site. I love FLs like her. On the other hand, the MLs pettiness and insecurities were overdone at times throughout the entire drama. Did it get better? sure, a little, but then it just morphed into rushing the relationship because he's so insecure. It was wild, because when he wasn't that way I loved every second of the leads together. Oh, and that third act drama in the last couple episodes? it felt out of place with the overall story. Either way.... if you can get past an immature/insecure ML who still has very mature and confident moments then give it a watch!
I enjoyed this short. It was definitely a good story and easy to follow. Romance was lacking in my opinion, but it was still a good show to binge through.
I could barely make it past the episodes where she was blind because the acting was just hard to watch. Afterwards the acting got much better, but the FLs character was written so poorly. Unfortunately this short is towards the bottom rating wise, but at least the FL and MLs chemistry was on point.
