Well, I found the opening episode to be very boring, just as the new few ones. Currently, I'm stuck at Episode 9 and so far, only Wa Chu Rang beauty is keeping my interest (but I admit, her scheming slowly gets bette).
After re-watching it and re-checking the storyline in the Novel as well, I finally found ONE SINGLE moment, when the writers had to lower the otherwise brilliant FL's IQ for a few minutes/chapters, as otherwise she would have had the main villain killed by the Emperor's burial list 650 chapters before the end . However, the way it was presented, the Emperor partially overlooked things as well. I guess the writer either didn't think it through properly or didn't have a better idea how to appoach it with perfect sense.
Typically in Dramas, similar brainfarts happen much more frequently either to push the storyline forward or keep the villains alive, even with the strong and smart FLs like Minglan or Yingluo.
The FL here is really well protected by the writers, and the above moments are barely noticeable. And the Novel is incredibly thought-provoking, if someone enjoys the mental gymnastics of making the best decision possible among the available ones.
I've recently realized something similar with "Minglan" as an example- the era of truly great Dramas is…
Well, "Prisoner of Beauty" has Liu Yu Ning as the ML. In my eyes, there's no chance for a serious Drama being great with a lead like him. But at least music could be.
Yeah, it's so great that the Legendary Female Assassin was trying to get pregnant during super important mission. It was one of the dumbest things I ever seen in Dramas I've watched, and one of the ideas that really brought down Ren Xin character in my eyes.
The best thing about this show is, that you get hooked into it by the very 1st episode itself. That's so rare…
Well, the finish to the 1st episode had the previously amazing FL getting stabbed and poisoned, one of the most overused tropes in Dramas if the FL is supposed to be a "Badass Female Lead" - writers and directors always make sure she wouldn't be too badass - we wouldnt want her to be better than ML, wouldn't we?
But I agree that overall the 1st episode was excellent, from my memory only "Blossom" had a stronger one.
Edit: After thinking it through, "Princess Agents" opening episode was also very good, as well as "Song of Glory".
Very interesting post, thanks. It's not the first time I'm reading about how awful "Blossom" novel was,…
Yes, this is the one. And yes, the FL is transmigrator (Lawyer in Drama, Sales representative in the Novel - I'm struggling to decide which fits her better).
Very interesting post, thanks. It's not the first time I'm reading about how awful "Blossom" novel was,…
Too many of them :)
Officially, its " 换亲后我顺便换了江山" aka "After Changing the Marriage, It's Reasonable for Me to Change the Country" (very fitting title), but if you want to watch it, Dramabreak has a nicely translated version on YT under a title "Used, Betrayed, Married to Power - Her Rise Was Just Beginning" (3:32 long).
Just a reminder - It covers only the first 140 chapters out of 775, but the ending is clear enough not to feel disappointed. And I've read that the 2nd Part is supposed to be filmed in September. Not a surprise, as the YT comments were hugely enthusiastic (and Douban's weren't too bad either, it also has an MDL profile).
And yes, if you can live with Microdrama limitations, it's a must-watch for capable FLs.

I've realised a few more things: 1) "Fighting for Love" - I've seen recommendations of the Novel before as having a great FL, and the synopsis of the Drama sounds very good as well, but I've heard that it is seriously underwhelming. I still have it saved to watch, though, on my list as "A Mai Joins the Army" 2) "Kill me, Love me" - it looks like I've tried to watch it before, actually, as it has an actress from the "Yanxi Palace" and "The Double" as the FL. However, I think I've lost interest, seeing how easily she was defeated during the 1st episode mission. 3) There are a lot of things I disliked about "Journey to Love", but unless I watch Indonesian movies, I rarely complain about brutality :). Here, I've had issues about a lack of villains, the ML being too perfect and overall, more powerful than FL (inexcusable in a Drama built and advertised around Liu Shishi), also, there were too many situations when I was thinking "How did Ren Xin become Legendary Assassin and was able to stay alive before meeting ML?". And on top of it, her desire to get pregnant during the big mission was seriously one of the most stupid things I've ever seen in a Drama, especially from someone who supposedly should be smart, capable and resourceful enough.
Very interesting post, thanks. It's not the first time I'm reading about how awful "Blossom" novel was,…
Well, for the record, I always have a issue with a so-called powerfu/capable characters who died and need to transmigrate/rebirth.
And based on a trailer, "Awakening" looks rather terrible, so many teenagers everywhere, I can only imagine how painful it will be for me with acting and fandom around it ;)
I actually thought "Princess Agents" was rather good (except the ending), it was my first C-Drama, I've seen better later on, but also seen worse (sometimes, highly rated on MDL) like "The Double" or "Journey to Love"
However, your description of "Princess Agents" made me quite curious, thanks.

I can only judge it by the Dramas: both Chu Qiao and Han Ye were saved a bit too much for my taste, but the former at least has the excuse of the amnesia and losing her skills (which is a typical trope used by the writers/directors to make sure FL won't be too strong - they are ready to say "A", but pretty much never willing to say "B"). I found out "LOFG" to be rather underwhelming (didn't read the Novel, but felt the Trailer was heavily misleading), and if it were to be to me, 2-3 times Han Ye's character and strength would be better protected, definitely ML wouldn't have a chance to teleport himself to save her :).
If we compare Dramas, both FLs in my ranking aren't close to the FL of "Qingchuan's Veil of Vengeance", I also felt Bai Feng Xi in "Who Rules the World" was written and protected by writers better (not perfect though). Ren Xin in "Journey to Love" was good too, but I still shiver when I think about how her character was butchered compared to its full potential. And the FL in "Seirei no Moribito" is absolutely amazing as well, a rare example of Fantasy Drama that I truly enjoyed. Anime is quite famous too (but I liked real-life Drama better).
Never heard about "Kill Me, Love me" and "Fighting for Love" before, so I can only put it on my list ;).
And there are some well-written FLs in Microdramas, but you have to be ready to digest them will all the limitations visible there.
And, like I said before, Lu Songli is in a class of her own (in a non-Martial Arts way).
Very interesting post, thanks. It's not the first time I'm reading about how awful "Blossom" novel was,…
You seem to read much more than I do :)
After my recent 775-chapters long endeavour, I'm thinking about trying a "The Princess Wei Yang" Novel - when watching Drama a few years ago, I remember some comments that the FL was much more capable, cunning and ruthless in the Novel. In the Drama, she quickly became a Damsel in Distress, saved multiple times by the ML (one of the most overused tropes in Cdramaland, typically used to promote Romance).
I'm not a fan of transmigration/rebirth stuff, but it's difficult to get away from it. So, if you know any Novels with similar FLs, I will gladly take notes. But, I am also worried that Lu Songli (from "I became the cannon fodder who died early, and I angrily married the villain") with her brilliance, ruined many future Novels for me, as all other FLs will look incompetent compared to her...
Overall, highly recommended if you are a fan of capable FLs and enjoy Microdrama despite its obvious limitations.
Currently, I'm stuck at Episode 9 and so far, only Wa Chu Rang beauty is keeping my interest (but I admit, her scheming slowly gets bette).
Especially for badass Female Leads, as it's one of the cheap ways to make them look less powerful than they could be ;(
