Well, it's pretty clear - I like female-centric Dramas and I know how much the badassery level of the female leads goes down where there are "power couples", so I wanted to watch something like mentioned above.

"Him doing this for decades" is actually a joke on its own, seeing how young the actor is looking, so the Marquis himself is probably written to be younger than 27...

And despite it, we somehow are supposed to believe he has many years of experience, he is super-duper in everything, etc...

Yeah, right.

And I actually like this ML way more than an average ML in a C-Drama world.

It's not like I'm looking for something specific - I pretty much watched or tried to watch what interested me.
It's more about female-centric dramas usually disappointing me due to the reasons I stated above.
It's easier (doesn't mean easy) to find a better written Dramas of this genre in the Micro/Vertical Drama market.

Well, for you it's condescending, for me it's just a big difference in opinion/perspective - I'm yet to find a female-centric drama where I would not think the heroine is too much watered down. I'm talking mostly when Martial Arts are involved, as when she is smart socially/doing well in business, it looks better ("Blossom is a good example, and there are more).

But when Martial Arts are involved, and the ML is a strong fighter as well? Then it's a never-ending litany of the female lead getting injured, saved by the ML, 2ML, 3ML, getting kidnapped, etc...

Typically, even if there is a "badass female lead" advertised, in reality, she is still playing 2nd fiddle to the ML and is treated like a Damsel in Distress when the ML is around and/or the Romance comes around.

It sounds like it (I'm on the Episode 8).
Accordingly, the original LOFG should be renamed "Romance of the Female Soldier".

90% shows would be better without Romance :).

So, typically, I enjoy watching Bai Lu stuff, and Wang Xing Yue almost made "The Double" unwatchable for me.

I will have to check what happens with this kind of mix here :)

Also, a rather low MDL rating and quite high at Douban for its standards make it look very appealing.

Actually, emphasising it over and over again made it look very weak and forced - it has a much higher impact when it's done by example.
Talk is cheap.

"I became the cannon fodder who died early, and I angrily married the villain" - featuring the most capable Female Lead ever. Not much romance, but ML is definitely above average as well. And it has happy ending as well.

Based on the two excellent reviews above, it seems the Novel is a much better choice if I like following strong/competent female leads.

I like Ruyi's calmness and composure, but I don't like her naivety, passivity, and lack of foreshadowing.
I guess with a million episodes, they had to make her lose a lot to fill a story, but since going through Lu Songli's adventures (Novel + Micro Drama), I'm tough to please regarding the strength of the female lead characters.

Youtube is an amazing source in this case - mostly because there are extremely interesting comments underneath about some drama and historic details seen there.

"Yanxi" is far more entertaining compared to "Ruyi"; I consider it the best ever Idol Drama :)

"Ruyi" has a much more serious tone (I withdrew when Ruyi became Empress, but now Consort Ling's evil deeds kind of intrigue me to resume it), but compared to Dramas in the same genre, it's IMO nowhere close to "Empresses in the Palace". Watching "Ruyi" seems quite dull despite the high rankings and praises.

Also, somewhere in my C-Drama adventures, I have learnt to dislike female leads who are passive, and unfortunately, Ruyi is a classic example of this.
