fully agree. i just hope MAME has learned something since making TBNW. the way cir was portrayed in that was....interesting. and very much romanticized in a way that i do not like. sigh.

since this is a dark romance, im actually hoping her writing of toxic characters will help her. but that would only work if she was aware she was writing toxic characters in her previous works, which,,,,i don't know if she was lol.

if she really has spent time revising the script and taking actor input, i at least hope its just DECENT. not a masterpiece but something entertaining without being overtly bad. im a HUGE fan of dark romance. i like fucked up shit (to a point obviously). and the pilot for Lust is something that is extremely up my alley. im not sure if she understands what she's getting into, but we can hope.

i love black flags when they're done correctly. i really hate when they're either watered down to make them likable OR they're bad at the start but their entire personalities shift to be unrecognizably kind. i want character development of an awful character, not a different character entirely.

i can see where you're coming from, and you might be right that MAME will implement this "care" from Akin. im fine with him being more caring to talay down the line. but him doing so at the start would only mean that she wants the audience to automatically like him instead of doing the work to MAKE the audience like him. that to me is lazy and bogs down what is supposed to be a toxic story with a black flag.

my thing is, when romanticizing a toxic story, its the FRAMING of actions that make it work. for example, if Akin is jealous, possessive, or even abusive to talay, romanticization of that would mean that the narrative would justify his possessiveness and jealousy, and downplay his abuse. that's how romanticization works. romanticization doesn't have to mean that akin has to be "nicer" to him as a part of his initial motives. he can be "nicer" down the line, but black flags really only work if they aren't nice at all from the get go.

but considering this is a thai BL, and a thai BL audience may not be ready for CBL type toxicity, i feel like you may be on the right track. and tbh that is not something that excites me at all. if you are right, the only thing i can hope for is a little wife-chasing...

im interested to see why you are trying to give akin the benefit of the doubt? its obvious that talay is being sold to be a sex slave for a mafia boss. him being awful to the MC is kind of the point of something like this. otherwise, if he treats talay like a sugar baby, then what are the stakes? if akin is nice then him leaving wouldn't matter. there should be FEAR of akin, because that is what makes these stories have tension and conflict. if they don't want to explore such a "dark" concept then they shouldn't have decided to make a show like this in the first place.

it honestly wouldn't make a lick of sense if akin wasn't cruel to talay at the start. the intrigue of these stories is showing how a ML like him could change completely for love. im assuming his groveling is going to be a large thing in the latter part of the story. if he's just "cold" at the start then what is this mess gonna be about? "lust, money and raw desire" but like in the most boring way possible? wouldn't that be a tad anti-climactic?

and by the way, the tags say crime, thriller AND romance, so that's what im hoping for. but i know thai BL hasn't had a proper toxic BL so you might be right. i just dont understand watered down toxic BL.

im praying for ONE BL to pull it off. PLEASE. i haven't liked any of the red/black flag BLs, even the CBLs cuz they all just devolve into meh for me. but im keeping up hope that at least one BL will remain interesting.

i loved this show bc it was a mess, but realizing that they might have used AI for the script ruined everything for me. i wanted a human made disaster, not an AI one.
