He's not sure of her feelings; the bridge appearing does confirm they share love, but not strictly to what degree. The lightning punishment is because MY's name is a lie, and thus whilst there is love, it's insincere because of the lie. The ducks and stone accept it basically because he's so determined that they give up and accept it. I guess because that determination makes up for the skewered sincerity. And, they got bored with it.

He only accepted for his own reasons. It's clear he isn’t fighting for Yaoguang, but using the position for his own ends. He makes it pretty clear to both his bio parents he dislikes them for their actions/behaviour.
He is protecting her. And she's smart enough to realise it. It's less a misunderstanding and more a deliberate calculation. She knows he's planning something, and the reason is for the six realms because of the injustice and to stop Emperor Chao (Situ Ling's dad), she just doesn't know why he chose this method (partly because he's dying now and partly for what the ep 33 trailer reveals).
You have to be at a certain level, transcendent stage. Ming Yi could do it too as she instantly recognises what it is, but she's likely proud enough to think it's a weakness since it takes a lot of power to use safely.

That said, she'll clearly find out what's happened to him somehow and pull a double Uno-reverse: make him a GMD, probably sneak it to him at some point the way he did her, and then try and off herself in his place. (I also think her dad will make it, and not her specifically. He'll do it as payback and amends and whatnot, possibly not surviving).
Of course, it'll be both of them that do something - and like Deadpool and Wolverine, it'll balance out.

Yeah, they literally were in the same room as babies, and the same pairs of arms - empress and Bo Yulan. Fate. What's truly horrifying is that they both would have suffered if they were raised by biological families: JBZ, without spiritual veins, would have been bullied like CY/STL was; MY, whilst probably not put in the Sunken Abyss, would have been hunted down constantly as a Bo clan member and if Emperor of Zhushui got her... well, that wouldn't have been fun by any stretch. And for added horror, those two women could and should have been nicer to the kids they got custody of, as they actually had the ability to make those kids' lives nicer than they would have been in their biological families. But the empress chose abuse to make MY the best, whilst BYL lashed out instead of acting like an adult. JBZ and MY suffered trauma anyway because of those two women, and particularly the empress' greed, as well as the system itself. I hope they destroy the system in the tournament.

JBZ does suggest once that he felt that MX was actually going to win but then something went wrong (poison kicked in). And even at that point, she was poisoned and in his spirit well, which suppressed her power somewhat. So, it is highly probable she could and would have if either one of those circumstances didn't occur.
Why is she after revenge? She lost in a tournament. Accept it and move on. Train harder and try and win the next…
Because she didn't lose fairly. She was poisoned. JBZ's win wasn't clean, and even he admits that he thought she was actually able to win before her power suddenly gave out. She initially thinks JBZ gave her the poison during the battle too, which adds to why she wants revenge. Add to this the fact she's proud, and she's been conditioned to base her self-esteem on winning, of course she wants revenge.
How many SMLs get told they're a SML and they have/had no chance? That aside, he only learned it later, and he had every chance to grow beyond his character like all the others. He actually really ends up choosing to be the annoying SML, which frankly, is annoying because he was such a gloriously subtle idiot at the beginning.
