That's a good story, in my opinion. I like the setting of this drama. Everything is easy to understand, not many questions about this or that events are for me, and there is no lingering sadness after watching it (I had that after finishing FOF). The tragic fate of a kind-hearted individual makes him even more of a man, as he does not lose faith or willpower in the end. Tianyao, as a character, has a healthy relationship with Yanhui, a good mixture of love, support, and trust. Love is present for me there, even if they've kissed only once or twice. HMH and ZY look good together. I'd have liked it more if some of her costumes were a bit more feminine, since her character isn't portrayed as a ''warrioress or omnipotent goddess'' or anything like that. Well, they still look good on her. I personally don't have any issue with Tianyao being ''too naive''. I'd say he's supposed to be like that at the beginning, since he seldom interacts with people before meeting Suying. I enjoyed our money-driven Fl too :)
It's quite a peculiar drama. I watched such a story for the first time when a person ends up in a tale or script. I like both leads. They're unique and full of surprises; you don't know what to expect in every episode:) Too much humor and laughable occasions, in my opinion. On the other hand, you'll not get bored watching it. Of course, the drama and angst are present, but thankfully, they're bearable. Actors are gorgeous - LYT and LYN are out of question. Second leads catch the eye, too. Costumes fit them well, and the music sets the right mood. I suggest rewatching it when you have to raise your mood.
So far, it seems like a light, romantic story about people falling in love for the first time. Sweet, tender, but uneventful, I'd say (based on the episodes that I've watched by now). FL is too shy sometimes, I mean the character. But Zhou Ye plays her well. A beautiful story to spend an evening with a cup of tea or coffee. That's all to it.
Yes, but in the novel the ml crossdresses as a woman for about half of the story. Meanwhile, in the drama YWJ…
Agree with you. Obsessive second leads, meaningless breaukups, and unhealthy jeaolusy are everywhere in the dramaworld. It would be so refreshing to have less of them in dramas.
I really hope this drama has a good plot. HMH is an excellent actor; his mimics do the job even when he's not saying anything in a scene. He does stunts himself, not that different from pros. Let the fighting and style be like FoF, a mix of fantasy, suspense, and action. Okaay, include a touch of romance if they must... (we all know they do this to increase viewership:)) But, just a touch...not the primary focus of the story.
Drama 8/10. Storyline and setting are 6, too many loopholes and misconnections (compared to a novel). +2 just for actors who did an excellent job in this drama, and their costumes. Music is also excellent. I'll wait for them to appear together in other dramas, since they're visually perfectly matched. I hope Lu Yu Xiao and Hou Ming Hao collaborate again. I also want Yu Cheng En and Zhu Li Lan paired as the main leads in the future.
It's a good drama, and I quite liked it. I rarely see detective stories in historical dramas. Most of them have it as a side genre. Shen Wan is portrayed greatly, and the actress really fits her well. It's surprising to me that the female lead keeps her place as the main character of the story even after meeting her male lead. The storyline usually shifts to the male lead or their relationship, but here I still sense that the story is about Shen Wan throughout the drama (maybe I've just not encountered similar dramas yet). The final plot twist is weird, in my opinion. Well, I put 8/10 for this drama.
Another positive aspect of this drama for me is FYX's style. She wears simple yet elegant dresses with a one-two hairpins. I watched many wuxia, xianxia, and historical dramas in which women are portrayed as 'the strong and capable' warriors and leaders. Yet, they wear 10 kilos of headresses and jewelry when fighting or sleeping, which I find a bit weird.
The female lead is absolutely stunning! I rarely hold female leads in high esteem, but Fu Yixiao is stunning and badass. Strong, capable, experienced, with a touch of gentleness and care. The male lead is powerfully written and played. Though he's pretty rough in the beginning, he's the best choice for fl. I don't like overly sweet and overprotective male leads; they often (but not always) make their ladies look weak and incapable sometimes (well, it's up to your own taste). Plot twists are not exactly 'plot twists'; too simple, in my opinion—still, 9/10.
On the other hand, without unnecessary breakups and deaths. Many dramas include such things to add angst and elicit viewers' sympathy, even though they don't really advance the storyline. Highly recommend this historical drama!
Waah, so many opinions here. :) I personally will watch this drama because I liked the trailer- looks like an interesting story, and I know that HMH is a great actor. I don't agree with those who ban this drama because of the age difference between AM and HMH. Do you consider their actual age difference in real life? Then, yes, he's 28 and she's 17. Are we going to watch their real-life romance? No, there's nothing like that, and so far, all has been proper during the filming. Will we watch this drama for Xiao Wuyi and Xie Jia Yu? Yes, they're the married couple in the drama. Do we know the age difference between these characters in the drama? NO, we don't know much about the drama except for some details from Chinese fans. It's not rational to mix real-life situations with imaginary drama worlds.
I watch historical dramas for their interesting plots, beautiful actors, and splendid costumes, not for kisses and hugs. I think it depends on your own tastes. If you want to be many kisses and hugs in the drama, look for other works. For example, HMH's recent drama ''Love in the Clouds'' offers a lot of love scenes. However, in my opinion, the plot was mediocre, with many clichés, and lacked eye-catching events. On the other hand, I watched Dilraba's drama, "Long Ballad," where she acted alongside a younger actor, Wu Lei. I love this drama for its plot and characters, and I never once thought about the actors' real ages. The storyline was mainly focused on politics, with no kisses at all, but it can still beat many many-kiss dramas by a mile. The same applies to dramas like "Blue Whisper, Love in Nirvana" and many others.
So, let's wait and see what the producing team shows. Added to the plans in the watchlist.
