So after reading the book, I have stuff to say. Firstly, I loved it. No matter what criticism I give, it will always be one of the most heartfelt books I've ever read. Next, I love how HIV was handled. It wasn't an in your face "look look LOOOK" scenario, neither did they downplay it too much. It was a real driving force of the story, but we weren't told every few seconds that he has it Another thing I love is the handling of trauma and teenage / adult problems, as well as side characters. The side characters all had their arcs, dreams and drawbacks. I also love how forgiveness to an awful parent isn't just doled out like a "sorry" erases everything. One thing I did dislike was that after all that slowburn, we didn't experience the getting together in real time, just a flashback. I hope the drama is better on that part, as well as with pacing as I think the author frequently slowed down the pace, maybe to drive home points, but meh🤷♀️, who knows?
