I just came across your post and I found your comment about Doctor John interesting. Did you happen to watch the…
I think we really watched two different shows. The problem I have with Dr. John was the cop-out to the whole euthanasia plot and how it was made irrelevant towards the end:
1. Dr. John was jailed for the "belief" that he had killed the cancer patient. BUT we later find out that he did not killed him out of mercy. In fact, he had fallen asleep and the patient passed away due to the pain (I'm fuzzy on this part because it's been a while since I watched it. I do remember the nurse was the one who signed the consent form for the clinical trial). The thing is, it wasn't euthanasia. It was simply a mistake that Dr. John did (and the reason why he accepted going to jail). So the whole morality of whether euthanasia is good or bad became a null point and was left unaddressed. It was a cop-out so the drama didn't have to take a side on the matter.
2. This was also done regarding the plot with the FL's father. The FL tried to kill her father after the accident out of mercy (euthanasia) but the rescue team arrived in time to actually keep him in life support. He ends up in a coma for most of the series. The whole thing was building up to culminate in making a decision to end the father's life (a rational one rather than a desperate one) but the point was rendered null when the father died on his own. Once again, the drama didn't have to commit on whether euthanasia was good or not.
3. Even with the prosecutor, his story was left hanging with no real commitment on whether to use euthanasia or not.
So, in short, none of the characters (except for that one video of some random characters helping a patient end her life) end up doing euthanasia. Rather, the writing made it seem like they did but actually didn't.
Instead, the show became about the ML's Congenial Insensitivity to Pain, which was miraculously controlled/solved(?) via an experimental trial.
The ending was also HORRIBLE. Not only did the euthanasia plot got washed down and ignored, but the FL was reduced to becoming "an incapable witch in high-heels" when the ML fell off the grid. Then she reverted back to her "healthy, properly attired self" when he came back. That last episode basically nullified her growth and tied her ability to function to the ML.
Take away the last two episodes, and the show is still good despite the euthanasia washing out. But with the last two episodes, they destroyed everything for me.
Lately, I find Dramas will quickly go against their premise and that rubs me the wrong way (as in I feel cheated).
This drama started with the FL stating she will not get married and going as far as to hold a ceremony to drill that point home... so I'm hoping the drama with remain true to that fact and have her be unwilling to marry, even if she ends up with one of the guys (similarily to Search WWW). Otherwise, why even start in such a way and make a big deal out of her beliefs if the writers will toss them out right after? And I have a feeling toss them out they will, which will just have me subtract even more points of an already bland drama.
BTW, they did the same thing with Doctor John and the whole euthanasia plot which was conveniently discarded rather than wrapped up (I was so disappointed I had to take a break from k-dramas altogether after that one). They also did the same with Born Again (to an extent) when their past life became irrelevant (though that show was just badly written across the board for me). And "Oh My Baby" were the main point was that the FL wanted to have a baby instead of getting married also suffered the same fate of discarding the main premise in favor for a cliché love story.
Planning to watch this but recent low ratings and many people dropping it saying this show is boring so pls anyone…
I am hanging in there by a thread, but I've begun fast forwarding super cringy scenes. Like others have mentioned, there has been almost no progress and characters are painfully cartoony so far. It's getting quite boring at this point.
This is an interesting theory. I like the first part because it seems possible the head nurse being behind all…
Yes, she's similar to the first red herring in that it's too obvious. I think with this second patient, she's just looking for attention. She even mentiones that at one point: "now you are all finally looking at me" (I'm paraphrasing) which indicates she's just playing a role.
But the FL wasn’t that old to not recognize her own mom. That’s why when the other patient who thought The…
I believe she did. I also think she's the one feeding the patient information so her husband and daughter will belive she's the real thing. It's like a game for her. And now she's interested in the brothers as well.
Interesting theory. I do not think the head nurse is her mom though. This type of twist would be more for a more…
No, i really think the head nurse is the big villain here. The actress is great at giving these hints of having fun at odd places. Just watch the scene in episode 10 where she's speaking with red herring patient about Othello. She turns her head away and gives this smirk while the camera shows us a close-up of her face. She also seems to have fun when she sees Gang Tae with the book (her book) and then proceeds to carefully plant the seed on the ML by asking if his brother is close with Red Herring. I think she's trying to see if Gang Tae remembers what happened when his mother was killed. I will honestly be surprised if there isn't a big reveal with her character after all those carefully delivered smirks.
I'm almost sure the Head Nurse is the FL's mom and she's using the patient as a red herring. Her reactions and little smirks at some situations are very suspicious.
My theory is that FL's dad created the mansion to stop his wife from killing. He must have been so afraid, he would think his daughter was also a psychopath and so left her with her mom. Perhaps he thought the FL could curve her mom's killer instincts?
At any rate, he must have ventured into the cellar where he would've find bodies. That's when he would've tried to kill hs wife. Perhaps that day the FL had also ventured into the celler and he might've thought she was in on the killings.
I also suspect the FL's mom killed the ML's mom. Perhaps that's also why she's taken an interest in Sang Tae, since he is a witness. She could have a tattoo of a butterfly or something. In which case, that might be the reason why young FL was tearing butterflies appart. It might've been her silent way of rebelling against her mother.
I hate it when Se Ra hits or threats Gong Myung and others. And they even portray it as something funny... Imagine…
I agree with you that I wished the FL could dial down the violence (or get rid of it altogether). I understand we're meant to see her actions as immature and childish, but the fact that the ML sometimes looks scared means what she's doing is a violation to him and translates into uncensored abuse.
While I understand the show is poking fun at a comedic style similar to cartoons or manga, the fact that these are real people means the violence don't translate into comedy, so it's hard to ignore the negative connotations.
Now, this drama is still quite interesting despite that flaw, so I'll carry on watching. But I'd be lying if I said the violence was charming or that it didn't make me uncomfortable as well.
could not agree more! i was intrigued by their concept of remembering past lives, that's why i was so excited…
It just feels so unnecessary. At the very least, the FL seemed put off, but i really wished appropriate music had been added instead. One more in the vein of that being creepy. Or even better, no music should have been added, just unnerving silence.
I don't get why the ML needed to sabotage the FL and have her fired. His offer was really strong. I doubt she would've turned him down had he simply scouted her. Perhaps even worse is that, as he's confessing to having gotten her fired and sabotaging her blind date, the director decides to add romantic music to the background. The show is okay so far and I'm enjoying the situation, BUT that part was not romantic and shouldn't be portrayed as such. Hopefully, this episode would put an end to the ML's questionable decisions.
Exactly, why everyone is giving terrible comments??? this drama is not that bad like people are describing!!!!!…
Oh, don't get me wrong, I tend to also give points if they did something I really like (weather they did so successfully or not). But in the case of this particular show, outside of some of it's cinematography and the (unfulfilled) potential of the story, I found little I enjoyed --the FL's character chief among the things I was disappointed with.
In fact, replace her with a kitten and the story can still remain as is but I would've rated it higher XD.
Joke aside, to your point of people disliking this but still watching, I try not to drop dramas unless I simply can't continue them. Even so, I've only ever dropped a handful of dramas but have muscled through many more. I finished this one still hoping that it would get better (I'm an optimist at heart, believe it or not!). But it's precisely because I finished it (hard as that was), that I can agree with the current rating.
In the end, there is something for everyone though.
