I'm still on the fence whether to watch this or not, tbh. Will probably wait to see what people say regarding the ending (whether it's satisfying or not).

Another CW article on Abyss? I thought it isn't possible lolAnyways, I still don't like it but I'm watching it…
I was confused about that as well. I had to double check and, indeed, there are two CW articles for the same drama. Didn't think that was possible either!

Wow! On the childhood romance/connections I believe it's waaaaaay higher. I think of the dramas I've watched there's…
Oh, I agree! I thought Childhood Connection will have higher numbers, though I still suspect many dramas may not have been tagged. I just did a quick search: 55 Romance Dramas have aired in 2019 so far. From those 12 have been tagged with "Childhood Friends", which is a whooping 21%. Only 4 have been tagged with "Childhood Acquaintance" and none with "Childhood Love".

So, in all, 15/55 Dramas (because a drama had both tags) have a childhood connection related tag. That's 27% percent of the Romance Dramas added to MDL in 2019!

Great article! I may just pick this one up. I didn't read the spoilers, but everything else you wrote was intriguing nonetheless.

Also I shall keep an eye on those tea cups, since you even tagged them lol!

I love this drama ... great acting, directing, script, but I find myself wishing Baek Yi Hyun would die, I don't…
You mean a 180? That would out you in the opposite side. If you do a 360, it means you go back to the way you started, since you end up in the same spot having made a full circle :D.

The ost and uhm da da lipstick colors are questionable but i do find the drama to be light n cute so far.
I hate the OST as well. Especially the theme song they chose for Ma Wang Joon D:

Oh, don't get me wrong, his story and his brother's was interesting indeed. But the payoff wasn't worth it for me. I also expected them to expand on "creating new victims" by trying to stop the killer. But other than just mentioning it as an "oopsie", there was no emotional payoff. They didn't try to find out more about the new victim, nor did the ML feel guilty about messing with time.

With Frequency that point was expanded upon despite being a movie. By altering the time to save his father, the ML ends ups saving a serial killer who then proceeded to kill his mother! That was amazingly done!

Of course, both shows fail to portray time travel how it should be, lol. Rather than alter their current time-line, them messing with time should've created an alternate time-line.

Hahaha fair enough with Signal. I think what was a miss for me was how long it took for me to care about the characters. And even then, I only really cared for Detective Lee (the one in the past timeline, can't remember if that's his name). Worst thing is, by taking out the Male Lead (who was frankly unnecessary) that emotional connection would've been made a lot sooner. Because then you could have the FL find the radio and realize she was talking to the man she's been searching for. And now we have something similar to "Frequency" where you understand the stakes because the characters are also aware of them.

You know I have been saying that the male lead chasing the female lead is rare. It hit me what's rare that I like…
Thank you for your comment. I completely understand what you mean about immature male leads gaslighting their way into a relationship with the FL. It's one of my peeves to reward such behavior. Perhaps I should make a "gaslighting" tag and start tagging such leads.

I also agree about the FL being shamed for chasing man. Though it's worst for me when her entire goal is simply to be with the man and there is no purpose for her outside of that.

I haven't watched that many older dramas, those I have watched I had tagged. Hopefully this article has inspired people to start tagging shows :).

is there romance?
Some, but it's quite a minimal part of the plot. And it mostly involves a secondary couple. This show is more comedy + politics + social commentary + friendship.
So... Kang Woo is going to be revealed to have Dissociative Identity Disorder? Which means that his other personality is the one who's perhaps killing people? It would also explain his fragmented memory, forgetfulness, mood swings and the reasons why he has to tie himself up when he feels he's about to black out.

On a side note: when Kang Woo saw burying beetle's face transform into that of a demon they used the same visual technique as with Mo Tae Goo (season 1 antagonist). Tae Goo saw one of the detective's face change into that of a monster/demon when they almost had a car accident. It was never repeated again, but I still found it rather interesting.

Ok, this has been bothering me since the first episode but Seo Yool didn't have all of his fingers cut off last…
He did had them all cut up last season. You may be remembering just one because they cut one first. But by the time they found him, he didn't have any of them.

I enjoyed this article A LOT. You've done a fantastic research work here, at the same time accurate and thought-provoking.For…
Thank you very much for reading! I personally also judge the trope based on how well it's executed. If the FL has no other purpose/goal/desire than to be with the ML, i tend to judge her as weak and feel disappointed with her. However, if she has a purpose outside of pining for the man yet she still pursues him, i tend to enjoy it.

The same can be said the other way around. Although there seems to be more "aggressive" males in their pursuit than females. Which makes me regard those aggressive characters more harshly.

I dropped this drama after a few episodes simply because it was.... idk... way too random?? Things just kept happening…
Although I clearly enjoyed the show enough to write an article for it, everyone has different tastes. Hopefully you will find a show that interests you more. And, trust me, I should know since I tend to get really bored with shows that a lot of people seem to really enjoy lol.

Thank you for reading, glad you enjoyed it! Indeed, it's really fascinating finding the patterns created by both dramas and viewers' perception of them! Hopefully I'll make time today to continue writing & designing the graphics for part 2.

Great article! The hugeee age gap between Goblin's leads was one of the reasons that I dropped the show. The romance…
Thank you for reading! Though I did finished it, I also struggled with the age gap in Goblin. I think just the visual of having the FL wearing her high-school uniform besides a grown man was extremely creepy. If she's been in university it probably wouldn't have bothered me as much, tbh.

On that, Korean Odyssey and You Who Came From the Stars worked much better for me, precisely because by the time the ML reunite with the FLs, they are much older. And, in fact, we only see them through short flashbacks meeting the FLs when they were children (neither of them striking a relationship then).
