Really, REALLY loved this article. You guys clearly spent a ton of time on this. "Of course, the tag system is…
Glad you enjoyed the article, @Skye-N-Rain! Indeed, I can just imagine the amount of man power required to check each and every tag/contribution for the community! And tags being as subjective as they are, even if the manpower was available chances are there would still be some who don't approve/agree with certain tags on certain shows. Hopefully, however, this article would entice people to not only add, but correct (if needed) information on their favorite shows. :)

This is a VERY comprehensive article and I can tell a lot of time and effort was put into this. Thanks for giving…
Both are good questions, Amy.

1. The dramas we included here as "romance" were simply the ones who had the genre set to that. Trying to filter them after that would've been monumental considering the numbers. However, dramas which didn't have romance as one of their genres but had the "subtle romance" or "minimal romance" tags were not considered.

With that same coin, we also compared the genre numbers overall. Meaning when we filtered dramas through our selected genres, there was certainly overlap given dramas are usually set with 3-5 genres.

2. In this case of our compile list, which included the top rated and top viewed dramas, I can confirm the 13 mentioned are romance-heavy dramas. Since that was a smaller sample, that one is easier to answer. Later today, I will add the dramas of our compiled list (I had intended to do so, but forgot).

If I can't include it in the article (the site has been somewhat wonky and yesterday it didn't allow me to correct a grammar mistake), I will add the list as a comment.

Interesting because I would have sworn the love triangle trope was a lot more prevalent. It seems like most of…
I don't think you are alone in your surprise when it comes to the love triangle tag, we were as well. Like I mentioned to @Misundersto_0d further down, I still suspect that many dramas aren't being tagged.

And the reason may also be thay a love triangle is only tagged if it is a big part of the story. I've seen stories where there's a mini love triangle. With maybe a support character showing interest in one of the leads for only a couple of episodes before "giving up". Lawless Lawyer, for example, comes to mind and, rightfully so, it's not tagged with a love triangle.

With so much collected info, I started making mistakes at some point lol. Good thing I caught them.

I think were it got difficult was with dramas tagged with multiple things. Childhood Connection is my current nightmare. There are several dramas which had been tagged with both Childhood friends and Childhood acquaintances... Lol

I agree with your sentiment. I usually don't mind a love triangle unless the guy or girl can't choose between…
Well what's even more interesting about your last point that I've observed, is that usually the 2FL ends up "chasing the 2ML". And, funny enough, she becomes a favorite character of many viewers. Dramas that come to mind where they show this: Master's Sun, Touch your Heart, The Beauty Inside and Devilish Joy (to name a few).

But you are correct in that, as it stands, with the exception of one, all the ladies are very confident in their pursuit.

However, in Another Miss Oh, i remember a lot of commenters disliking the female lead. Personally, I loved her and found her pursuit of the ML hilarious. But many don't seem to share my opinion on that one.

Yes exactly, I totally agree with what you're saying so I may repeat it but I wanted to post it anyway : Yes it's…
I also think that Choi Jin Hyuk simply "looks" much older than his actual age. Whereas other characters look much younger than they are.

For me, I've only every used the age-related tags when...:
1. There's a significant age gap between the main characters (whether they are romantically involved or not not important).
2. When it's part of the plot/relevant to the characters, like in "Romance is a Bonus Book".

I guess the age gap thing is based on how much older the leads LOOK compared to each other and the knowledge of…
That may be how many people tag shows, I'm thinking. Although even that is quite subjective. As proof of that, when I watched "Bring it on, Ghost" it was my first time seeing the leads. However the age gap was glaringly obvious to me. Yet, I wouldn't tag the show with it because the two characters were supposed to be the same age (or very close in age) --even if reality says differently.

Meanwhile, in "Witch's Love" I didn't detect any age difference between either the actors or characters, lol.

I see someone graduated from the "University of Dramaland" and wrote their thesis about this ! :DDd Well done…
Hahahaha, when I was in university (quite a while ago) I had ONE film class. But it was an AMAZING class with a professor who was outstanding at teaching. I'd always liked film, but that class just opened up a door that can't be closed anymore. He even warned us: "once you take my class, you'll never be able to go back to watching things passively." And so here I am... analyzing entertainment lol.

And this is now what happens someone who automatically analyzes information realizes there's a database worth taking a look into. And @Lua thought we were going to do something light, fun and simple. XD

Thank you, Oneesama! Even though we planned to do it as something very lighthearted and fun, we still wanted to do it correctly. That meant studying what shows got tagged and the reasons why, so we could be transparent in our findings.

The ones who tagged Healer as "older woman/younger man" are mistaken. Healer/Jung-hoo is a month older than Young-shin/Ji-an.…
I agree, if the tag is being used to refer to the character's age and not the actor's age, then it doesn't apply since they were the same age. Even if whoever added it did so because the actress is older than the actor, it's still a small enough difference to overlook (and in fact, you can't even tell)!

Which is why I added some of the characters it might've been referred to. Because, as established, how the tag was defined is extremely vague. My money is on the fact that it was added in regards to Moon Ho & Myung Hee, since he's crush was a big part of the story. And the flashbacks made it quite clear she was much older than him.

No, my bad, Lua! I thought I had added you as an author but when I did, I forgot to save that! So I kept working on it and only much later, did I realized you didn't appear as a co-author. So for you it looked like I was flash, lol. But the truth is much simpler hahaha.

And yeah, like we predicted, people found the love triangle section quite surprising!

Despite hating love triangles, I don't really take the love triangle take seriously when I 'm choosing a drama…
I agree with your sentiment. I usually don't mind a love triangle unless the guy or girl can't choose between his/her prospects. That just shows that he or she shouldn't be with any of them. In that case, I find the plot device annoying.

However, when I find it down-right BAD it's when it becomes detrimental to the character with the unrequited love. Like having a woman come in and just focus on getting the guy while doing all sorts of ugly deeds... and that's it. Her entire character suffers as a result. And I'm using "her" because it's mostly female characters that end up being portrayed so poorly. On the other hand, men usually end up even becoming friends.

Another brilliant article! Thank you, Lua and 3GGG for your great work! I'm looking forward to part2.~As for Signal,…
Thank you, Minarii, glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah, the subjectivity of the tags made it harder to do this as an infographic with "hard" data. I'd still tagged Signal with minimal romance (not add it as a genre) because it was a big part of two of the main character's interactions. I did see interest from the "past" detective towards his rookie partner. But, more importantly, unrequited love is a beautiful part of a romance story and it's treated as such in many literary works. So even if the relationship didn't flourish in the way romance-centric dramas show, the female lead's feeling for Detective Lee were evident, recurring and a central to her character.

But, like we've established, when it comes to the human element there's really no right or wrong answers, lol.
