I agree but YY doesn't though. The mother is willing to give good things to SS and to YY but in terms of punishments…
I agree, I think the mom loves SS but she also expects SS to be the daughter she thought/dreamed she would have. SS obviously didn't become that type of daughter, so the mom nitpicks at SS's flaws, even small ones that aren't really issues, as a way to correct them to force SS to fit perfectly into her expectation of what her daughter should be like.
Her actions make her love seem very conditional. She might love SS but she will not freely share that love unless SS fulfills her requirements.
Caution: Long Post about FL's motherEdited for easier readingI thought about it and the FL's mother still perplexes…
I agree. I feel like her trying to parent SS like a soldier ignores the fact that soldiers follow orders with acknowledgement and understanding of why they need to follow orders. There's an unspoken expectation on both sides that allow them to respect and work together.
SS doesn't have the same understanding with the mom. Soldiers follow orders with a certain level of trust and expectation, SS barely has either. No one is clarifying their reasons or their choices, and I think they assume that SS will just understand their actions, and she doesn't and I don't think it's something she'll ever understand on her own because it's so outside of what she's experienced.
Dad is actually better and getting there. Mom is a hopeless nutcase. She needs to return to the battlefield and…
Yeah, I saw a clip where the two were talking about SS. The dad was like we need to take our time and we shouldn't we so harsh on her. The mom was like, I already made a mistake years ago, I refuse to make a mistake again, she needs to be disciplined. Then the dad deferred to her?!?!?
I was like, "NO DAD YOU HAD THE RIGHT IDEA!!!!!" Like I know parenting is different there, especially since its set in a historical background, but they're actively making SS give up on her expectations of parental love.
I hope the mom and dad have a reflective moment where they realize how much they messed up. I hope they realize how mistreated she was and that she literally doesn't expect people (them included) to love her.
For those that have read the novel, does the FL's relationship with her parents change as the story goes on? Does it get better or worse? or does the parents realize how much they screwed up and they can't reappear and expect her to trust them like other children with their parents.
I heard that at the end of the novel there is actually an epilogue for Sanyue. It follows Sanyue after the novel and she's travelling by herself. She saves this wolf boy and some things happen and it's revealed it Li Shu.
May i know what the rumour about him? I would like to know too :)
He was accused of cheater and having messy interpersonal relationships. However, the person accusing him later came out to say she was being misled by people and he is actually a good guy. @하얀색 linked a good article that summarizes the entire situation above.
Is this GL, or are the girls dressed manly playing men?
From what I understand it's not GL. The caste is entirely composed of female actresses as a reference to the past where all the players were played by men.
As terrible as Wen Xiu is, I feel bad for her. I undestand that the terrible things that have happened to her is the result of her actions but it's still terrible. She's been disowned from her family, trapped in a loveless marriage (where her husband tries to spite her at every turn), and forced to give up her body. As much as she deserves everything, it still saddens me.
Her actions make her love seem very conditional. She might love SS but she will not freely share that love unless SS fulfills her requirements.
