Tbh, same. The story of Yanxi Palace isn't my cup of tea since I'm more towards the romance genre. The only reason why I watch this drama was because I've seen FMV about Fu Heng and Wei Ying Luo so I decided to watch it for them AND GOT HOOKED. It's crazy.
It's kinda funny with the duality between male actors and actresses. Everyone is praising Xing Yue for portraying the role of a cold Duke perfectly (he is) while saying Wu Jin Yan's beauty doesn't match the character of Jang Li.
There's a reason why she's been chosen for the role, and she's a perfect candidate for it. For those who don't know, Wu Jin Yan play Wei Ying Luo in The Story of Yanxi Palace. This character is portrayed as smart, strong, fierce, ruthless, arrogrant, loyal and capable of destruction. She enter the palace as a servant for a purpose and win favors along the way by outwitting her enemies.
· This drama gain massive popularity in both China and internationally. It was streamed more than 15 billion times, became the most watched online for 39 consecutive days. · It was distrubuted in more than 70 markets worldwide, especially in Asia. · The series won numerous award, around 35 wins and 5 nominations.
This clearly prove that she can portray this type of character. She also plays similar roles like The Legend of Hao Lan and Royal Feast-ish. With this background, the role of Jang Li screams her name.
Wu Jin Yan is one of the most beautiful actress in the Chinese industry imo. Her beauty is unique and distinguished among other actresses. Mind you, she's already 33 in this drama BUT doesn't even look remotely close to her age.
Please give my girl the credits she deserves. If you watch the BTS scenes, she work really hard to pull off Jiang Li to satisfy the audience's high expectation. Sorry for the long post, I'm just tired of everyone downgrading her without being familiar with any of her works.

Heh, I think this role is screaming Jin Yan for me, she's breathing life into it. Jin Yan always does best when it comes to strong, witty, and smart woman. It's literally Wei Ying Luo 2.0 and no one's perfect for the role than her. Jin Yan also has the beauty like no other. She's unique and natural. She gives off the elegant vibe and every slow motion shot just captures her beauty perfectly. Whether it be her features or skills, she pulls off both and brings the character to life.
It would be such a blessing if any novel readers can summarize the MLs love story. I would love to learn how their love blossom through revenge. The details on their love, interactions, his jealousy, etc. The wait here is too painful 😭😭, IM CRAVING.

She’s in the Story of Yanxi’s Palace(2018) . This drama really kick-start her career in both China and international. Her other drama afterwards just isn’t as impactful. Hope she rise again after this drama. I really love her, both beauty and skills.

For someone who give up everything just for you. You promise her family that you will take care of her forever but you sacrifice her for your own goods just showcases that he's selfish and cruel. Even after death, the FL still carries the name of a 'cheater' while he gets pity from the world and got regconition from the emporer for his devotion. His love is shallow, not worth mentioning.
Characters have different purposes so we can't really compare them. I do know characters with backstory and has 'no choice' but do evil things and I do pity them but this guy? lol, I wouldn't care less if he dies.
