The first ep which is also subbed is out in Dramacool . I don`t know the fansubber website, so i will post the Dramacool link. Thanks a lot for the person who has subbed it, i did not expected the drama to be subbed this fast.
I can’t deny the fact that this drama is so intense and I was hooked from episode 1. I couldn’t stop thinking…
Glad you liked the drama so much. This is what japanese BL dramas/movies are best at, it always makes you feel things, being either positive or negative ones, most of the times both and if it has made you feel such intense emotions, it means that is a brilliantly well made drama in my book, one of the best that Japan has made and released until now. This drama is adapted from the first novel of a total of three novel series, so they weren`t able to show more about how they are when they are dating and how they are as a couple, but because they have more material left to cover and the drama was well received in Japan, we hope they will make a second season too.
Nope. It`s better this way.BL movies, and especially japanese BL movies almost never get as popular as BL dramas…
The drama is filmed exactly how a movie is filmed. This feeling is especially strong when i remember how each episode end, like is carefully thought. The length is also not too long, so it would have made a good movie too.
Life: senjou no bokura, Where your eyes linger and To my star are also filmed in a similar way too and each has a MOVIE DIRECTOR`S CUT version (basically a compilation of the eps in a movie), so i get where your thought has come, i also thought of this.
This drama is so absolutely perfect that I am wondering as to why they made it into a drama and not a Film. May…
Nope. It`s better this way. BL movies, and especially japanese BL movies almost never get as popular as BL dramas if are not released as a continuation of a popular BL drama for exemple ( Cheery magic movie is highly anticipated, this is why i mentioned this) , and this is true especially among international fans. And some BL dramas release a DVD/BLURAY version, so it can be supported this way too after it has finished airing. Just look at Cheery magic, this drama and Kieta Hatsukoi too, there are the ones that are mentioned and recommended the most when it comes to japanese BLs- there were so many japanese BL movies released before, but most international fans never heard of them. Life: Senjou no bokura has more of less opened the path of the release of japanese BL dramas, as it was the first of this kind released after some time, and it only got popular to a smaller degree among international fans, compared with Cheery magic for exemple.
No, you're not the only one, there are already a handful of comments and reviews here stating how much they dislike…
Well, the majority of people who comment on this page regularly from the moment the drama aired, really like this drama, so of course the first reviews made were more positive and were supported by people here, so they are the first that appear. It`s like this for almost every drama page, the positive reviews are almost always seen at the front. The majority of the reviews are more on the positive side tho, you are right about this. Some reviews for this drama are really interesting and fascinating to read, so i really like to read them. Even some of the negative reviews are interesting to read, it shows just how many mixed reactions this drama can get.
Don’t worry you are not alone who dislike it, a lot of people came here to say they are the only one who don’t…
I think is more accurate to say that this drama is one of the few BL dramas that has managed to give one of the biggest mixed reactions from people in a lot of social medias from the moment it aired and for a long time after it stoped airing, as is still watched and discussed by a lot of people even now. There are many people who really loved it, to the point they are almost obssesed with it and there are also a lot of people who disliked the drama. The drama was really well liked among japanese and chinese fans and has received really mixed reactions among western fans. It`s fair to say this is the kind of the drama that people will either hate it, to the point it will become one of the most disliked drama they ever watched or either really love it so much, until the point that they will rewatch it a lot of times, and be unable to move from quickly. A lot of japanese BL movies and japanese dramas/movies in general have stories like this, this kind of story is not something new when it comes to japanese BL adaptations and to people who are used to watch japanese dramas/movies, but this kind of story was never adapted in a japanese BL drama, so is not totally unexpected for people to have this reaction. Well, this is not really true now that i think more about this, there was Pornographer and it`s sequel Moon Indigo released in the past, which has a more gray kind of story from a moral perspective, but it never managed to become as popular as how Utsukushii kare has become outside of Japan. I think as JAPAN will release more and more BL dramas like this, and people get used to the way JAPAN like to tell their stories, the reactions will not be as mixed and big. But, to be honest, i always admired JAPAN for the big diversity in the stories told in their movies and dramas, so i hope they will continue to release BL dramas/movies just how they did until now, without being burdened by the reaction the story might get from the audience.
They were no way mentally healthy, if they were they wouldn't fall or each other
Yes. In a way , they both has some issues to work on and overcome, otherwise they wouldn`t have fallen for each other. This is how they were writed in the source material too. Kiyoi is unable to trust people, and he has this big fear to show any weakness and let his guard down to people, so he projects himself as a strong and confident person to people he doesn`t trust/know personally. Hira has this really low self- esteem and he is too used to be looked down, so when Kiyoi attracts his attention he treats him as a KING because for him this is the only relationship he can have with him. The strong admiration and worship Hira has for Kiyoi is the biggest issue that cause the most problems in Hira and Kiyoi relationship in the novels from which this drama is adapted from, but they are able to work things out in the end. I just wanted to talk more about this subject. This comment is not especially addresed to you.
I will give some spoilers from the novel in association to some words the characters say in the drama for you…
Is very very hard to find the raw, i think the only choice is to buy the novel from an official website. The only thing that i could find online, is the transcript of the two CDs in japanese, which i translated them online. This is why i said, if you have not patience, to wait for the translation, you can try to listen to the two audio dramas, since the first CD has an transcript in spanish and it has started being translated recently in english in youtube, and someone has made a transcript in english of the first part of the second CD.
I will give some spoilers from the novel in association to some words the characters say in the drama for you…
Yes. Reply when you feel like it, of course. It will take a while until an completely english translation is available. There aren`t that many spoilers in the post i made that weren`t foreshadowed and hinted in the drama, but you are the one that knows what works better for you.
So far no subbers have announced subbing this series yet...no official eng translations either :((
I am quite sure Dramacool will have this drama too, as it has a lot of unsubbed japanese crime/mystery dramas and japanese dramas of all genres really. I know for sure since i check regularly some japanese crime/mystery dramas in Dramacool, in the hope they would be picked up by someone and subbed. For exemple this drama is not subbed even until now, but it has the eps in raw. https://watchasian.sh/drama-detail/kinkyu-torishirabeshitsu-4-2021
I was reading this extremely well written review, unfortunately not written in english. If I can, I'll translate…
I will give some spoilers from the novel in association to some words the characters say in the drama for you understand just how lonely and sad both Hira and Kiyoi life are in the novel, and how only by being together, they feel is all they need to be happy.
Hira is a lot more depressive at the beginning of the novel and at the beginning of the drama that it seems like. I don`t think his depression was that bad, just a bit more intense than the ocassional depresion people experience from time to time, but it was there and for him it was more constantly than other people. In the first episode Hira says that "nothing he has seen amazes" him, and that there is nothing and no one that he wants to take photos of especially, he don`t have anything in life that he especially likes and loves (with the exception of his parents). Before he meets Kiyoi, his world has this melancholic vibe, has not color, and everything changes for him when he meets Kiyoi. When he meets Kiyoi, for the first time he has found someone he is interested in, that he wants to take photos of, that he like being around. His love and attachment grows little by little and it grows a lot more when he confronts Shirota to help Kiyoi. That moment was a wake up call for Hira, is the moment he has felt that he can fight back against other people that mistreats him, that he has other choices too, and that he can do things that he previously tought he don`t have the courage to do. The fighting scene with Shirota is the reason Hira`s admiration for Kiyoi has gotten really big, and the reason why he can`t forget him and can`t give up on him. Even in the future, Hira don`t see Kiyoi only as a lover/boyfriend, but also as someone who he looks up to, his saviour, someone he admire, basically Kiyoi is his everything, his love for Kiyoi is endless. There is this conversation Hira and Kiyoi has in the novel, that was not adapted in the drama, in which Hira says that Kiyoi has saved him, because his love for him has made him courageous enough to stand against his bully (Shirota). Hira says to Kiyoi that he related ( he basically felt that he might do something like this too) a lot to the suicide reports that were showed in TV while having dinner with his parents before he meet Kiyoi. So his mental health was not in the best shape. Kiyoi don`t have as many issues as Hira, but he was always lonely and sad because he wanted for someone to love him unconditionally for the real person he is, but at the same time because of his parents separation and him feeling neglected he has a hard time trusting people.
Basically, the parts in the drama where both of them think that the world looks like it has no color without the other, and that the years just pass by without meaning and happiness, and that they are just adding the years, shows just how of a big impact and influence both Hira and Kiyoi has in each other life. The scene where Hira thinks the phrase "I WAS SAVED BY HIM" it actually replace the scene in the novel where he actually says to Kiyo that he saved him in the past, with the difference than in the novel is more touching since he actually explains why Kiyoi has saved him.
For more context, try to listen to the first audio drama if you don`t mind listening to audio dramas. The first audio drama it`s getting translated in english by somene in youtube, and i added the links in the discussion thread for the novel and CDs, as it has much more content surrounding Hira and Kiyoi relationship than what the drama has covered.
Still here. Can't get over his "you're disgusting"
It`s creepy or gross sometimes, not disgusting. I tought you might not know, so this is why i made this comment. GagaOOLala subs are way off most of the time, if you watched the drama with the subs from GagaOOLala. KIMOI is a word that can have multiple meanings in japanese, it can mean, gross, weird, creepy, disgusting etc. This is why good subs are important. I have made a thread in the discussion section where the drama can be watched with better alternative subs. Viki subs are much better than GagaOOLala, and there is another fansubber who translated the drama with better subs.
It doesn`t matter that much if people didn`t noticed that in time Kiyoi uses of the word KIMOI in association with the kind of love Hira has for him ( to highlight that Kiyoi knows Hira kind of love is KIMOI, and that he`s not bothered by it) , and not because he looks down on him or that he mistreats him, but it`s misleading when this word is translated as disgusting all the time.
1st of all after reading volume 1 AGAIN.I have to recorrect myself, Ichiro is NOT in love with his childhood Chika.…
KYAAAAA. Ichiro wanting to only sleep/having his first time with a person he likes is so similar with Kiyoi on this, and with a lot of characters writed in BL mangas and novels lol. But, my heart always goes soft for those kind of characters, hahaha.
I really enjoyed reading your toughts about some of japanese BL unique characteristics, since i have some really similar toughts about it, and i am always willing to continue talking about the beautiful ways Japanese BLs continue to touch my heart over and over again. It was really fun reading your review, especially the shower scene part in Zettai BL hahahaha. And yes, i think for me too, the fact that the drama has such a beautifully executed conclusion has made this drama for me, one piece of art that i will never forget, and i will always come back to rewatch it. The drama is by not means perfect, but the execution makes it really perfect in my opinion.
Thank you for giving us some idea of the story, Kino San. I was hesitant to try this series at first because the…
HAHAHA. If a japanese BL drama/movie is released, as long as the story is decent enough, i will always be here. Through i do tend to to comment more on japanese BL dramas pages, as people don`t engage in discussions that much when it comes to movies.
Yes. Japan does have the best BLs quality wise, is just that japanese BLs aren`t as popular, (but things might…
Basically BL stories and BL dramas and movies are really different from LBGTQ dramas and movies, there is still a clear distinction between them, but there are also some dramas/movies that are situated between a BL and LBGTQ as story wise. For exemple, i consider the movie The cornered mouse dreams of cheese to be in between, because it has a gay character and the story has a more serious, mature and heavy vibe similar with LBGTQ movies. Kiyoi is also gay in Utsukushii kare. Even if those dramas and movies we are watching are BLs, they are stil a portrayal of same sex relationships, the people of LBGTQ community are also watching those dramas and movies. It just depends on every country and production team on which degree they want to portray the relationship to be relatable and relevant to a real gay relationship. I consider some of the japanese BL movies made in the past to be in between a BL and a LBGTQ movie. Japan also usually tries to show a more realistic side of the characters relationships, as the characters are showed as being still self-aware of the others around them, having this acknowledgment that the fact that the characters are together should be kept a secret or is not necessary to inform other people, which is relatable to how gay people in asian countries especially are behaving, an aspect that is hard to find in most Thai and Taiwan and sometimes Korean BLs too. And there are other things too. Japan adapts the content as close as they can to the source material, but the small changes are meant to make the characters to still be relatable as a gay couple, this is also why i love about japanese BL dramas and movies, it makes things at least a bit more realistic. I mean, you might know this well too and i misunderstood your previous comment, so ignore this comment otherwise. And don`t worry about this, let`s discuss when you have more time.
