This is exactly why I think Koyama was a mistake. He shouldn't have even existed. He represents nothing and adds…
Yep. A brilliantly made point.
This is also why i tought that the conversation between Hira and Koyama, even through it could have been more short, it was really important to be showed exactly the way it was showed. I mentioned in a previous comment that this scene shows a really big growth from Hira.
Before then, Hira is indecisive and goes will the flow most of the times, but at that moment we can see that he can also be stubborn and decisive about the things that matters to him.
We can also see that Hira is really sure about his feelings for Kiyoi, he has always been, he is just too afraid to be hurt, so he don't allow himself to have any expectations when it comes to Kiyoi.
This is a big part of the reasoning about Hira behaviour towards Kiyoi. Like yes, Hira love for Kiyoi is too intense, him putting Kiyoi in a pedestal is not good, and is something he still has to overcome, but in the end he did that as a defensive reaction, he didn't let himself to have any false hopes that Kiyoi will reciprocate his feelings, because he didn't want to get hurt.
And like you said, this conversation and all the scenes Hira has with Koyama actually humanizes Hira. In this last scene between Hira and Koyama, it was really refreshing seeing him like this, is one of my favorite scene in the whole drama

My comment has become too long again, but i really enjoyed reading your comment.

Even if it was reported, not everything reported will be deleted, especially not this quickly. I think it most likely has deleted the post. I don't feel bad about it, since like i said i was only expressing my opinion, but i hope people would engage more in discussions when they get different opinions from others, than delete the posts.

OK someone who I replied to deleted their comment and I kind of feel bad about it eventually I don't think I did…
Yes. I have also mentioned i respect the person opinion and by writing my comment i only wanted to give a different perspective and hoping that they will understand Kiyoi more. In the end, all of us who like to talk in this page are really passionate about this drama and love to share our toughts about anything.Honestly, the person we replied too shouldn't have deleted the post, i hope the person didn't deleted it because he felt that we won't understand his opinion, because is not like that, we just like to talk among ourselves and is always fun to discuss things like the question that person asked. For exemple, i really enjoyed taking my time to write my post, and i tought carefully about how to express myself in a way that anyone will understand what i want to say. Like in my case i only wanted to make them understand how i see things, and i was hoping maybe it will made that person open up more on why he tought the way they did.

Yes. Now that i think about it, there is this thing that has made me really uncomfortable too. In the conversation Koyama and Hira has when Hira has rejected Koyama, some of Koyama responses given makes me really uncomfortable and upset at him.
Koyama responses are very selfish there, like he don`t have a clue what the relationship Hira and Kiyoi had in the past, but he dares to say something like:
- how can you like someone like that
- i can`t understand
Like i understand he is hurt by Hira rejection and i know he has said something similar in the novel, but in the drama it gives the message that not only him, but every normal person would think the same.
Love has many forms, there is not relationship that has not probleams and is "healthy", so i wished the production team was more careful about this.

I expressed my opinion before, about how i wished Kiyoi has pushed Hira less or showed to be less annoyed with Hira, because it shows him as much more troubled than he is. If the drama has more eps, i wouldn`t have any issues with anything i mentioned, but it don`t have more eps.

Anyway, as you said Utsukare is still great. I consider the fact that they have managed to show so well the characters personalities and the relationship between Hira and Kiyoi in so few eps, as close to a miracle really.

I hope i don`t annoy you with my replies.
The novel this drama is based on has rekindled my old love for reading BL mangas. It feel like was such a long time since i read BL mangas, that i forget how great some mangas are.
I was also thinking while watching this drama that Japan has so many great, like really great BL mangas that they could adapt as well as they did with Utsukushii kare and other BLs released recently, so i hope they would adapt more even if the dramas are as short as this one.

Now that i remember. There is another reason why i tought that Koyama appeared more times than it should in the drama.
They didn`t have that much budget and they had the time restriction, so they have used Koyama as the main reason for Hira and Kiyoi to interact, so they wouldn`t have to show more sets and introduce more characters.
This is the reason that i suspected to be, after i saw that they have added Koyama and Hira hug for Kiyoi to walk away from Hira`s house, when in the novel they spend a lot of time at Hira`s house ( well his uncle`s house, but anyway is similar). I tought the reason they have showed Koyama letting Hira go on his place to help his brother and meet with Kiyoi is because this way they were able to show again the theatre coffee and the rehearsing room. Even the clothes the characters are wearing are reused many times.
In the last 3 eps the only sets introduced the most are Hira`s house and the coffee theatre and the rehearsing room.

Yes. I observed this too,i saw some videos where he was at the press conference. I think they definitely have a reason for it.
I don't especially like him, but the actor who plays Koyama is a good actor, he has the screen presence.
One of the reason i can think of, is that they have planned to make a second season from the start, and they plan to also give Koyama a love interest in the second season.
Otherwise is weird, because he only appeared in three eps, and while his scenes has impact, there aren't that many, is just that it feels he appears too much considering how short the drama is.

This is exactly why I think Koyama was a mistake. He shouldn't have even existed. He represents nothing and adds…
Yes. I agree with both you and y ishida on this.
For a drama that is this short, they have given him too much screen time compared to how few times Koyama appears in the novel. Like yes, his appearance is important, because is a source of conflict and in the end it makes Kiyoi and Hira talk things out.
But the way he was portrayed, because i think he was writed to be much more nicer than he is in the novel, has made people compare him with Kiyoi and throw hate at Kiyoi, which is really unfair.
When people see how Koyama treats Hira so well compared to how Kiyoi is struggling to even get close to Hira, will of course make them think that Koyama is a better option for Hira. But i still wish people will stop expressing things like this, and think about who Hira actually wants.
It`s also really frustrating because is obvious that Kiyoi wants to become close to him, he also wants for them to get along and for him to treat Hira better, but Hira is not letting him. It`s obviously to me, that Hira is the issue here.

And you are totally right, Kiyoi is the one that loves Hira more, if it wasn`t for Kiyoi efforts they wouldn`t have even end up together lol.
Kiyoi know all the sides Hira has, he has seen Hira as his lowest, he knows who Hira really is.
I think people should give Kiyoi more credit for the fact that he is treating Hira as his equal in the end, even when he is in high school he is like this ( even if Hira can`t see it), because he is not letting Hira get away with his behaviour, he call him out when his actions are wrong.
This is really important because i believe Hira needs someone who would point these things out, he needs someone who can tell him when he crosses the line, when he is doing things that he shouldn`t be doing, when he is doing things that hurts his partner feelings, because Hira is too oblivious and slow when it comes to these things.
I am sure even Koyama wouldn`t be as decisive as Kiyoi if it was in his place, when it comes to not letting Hira get away with his behaviour.

On ep 4, he should be with koyama and forget kiyoi 100%
I will really try to respect your opinion on this, and only give another perspective why both Hira and Kiyoi has done the things that they did.
I hope you watched all the eps, so i will not give you spoilers. So to avoid this, don`t read this until you watched all eps.

When you said Hira should have chosen Koyama just because Hira is comfortable with him and Koyama is more supportive, it makes me think that you underestimate how complex and deep the story is, things aren`t as simple as this.
Koyama has just come too late in Hira life and he needed more time for Hira to see him as something more than a friend. From when Hira meets Koyama and until Hira rejects him, Hira only sees him as a friend. It`s how it is in real life, Kiyoi is Hira first love, and his love for him is really intense mixed with idolization, worship, if someone like this will suddendly come back into their life, almost nobody would chose Koyama over Kiyoi. There are those nostalgic feelings that Hira cherish and he don`t wants to let go, and they are valid.
The reason Hira likes Kiyoi so much is because of Kiyoi personality, behaviour, the way he carries himself. Hira said to Koyama that he can`t explain why he likes Kiyoi, but he lied to avoid hurting Koyama feelings even more, he does knows why he likes him. In ep 6, it was revealed Hira admires and loves Kiyoi the most for his bold side of his personality, the way he can do what he wants without being considerate of others.
And this is because, as Hira sees it, these traits of Kiyoi personality has saved him in high school. Liking someone because of the way he is, his personality, is unbeatable.
It`s this side of Kiyoi personality that i think that it will make Hira and Kiyoi relationship work. Koyama has said some accurate things, Hira is too wishy-washy, basically indecisive, he likes to avoid talking things, for him to avoid conflicts. Kiyoi is the opposite, even through when he is angry he says the opposite of what he is feeling, he does say what he is feeling when he thinks he should convey his feelings.
Kiyoi is not that good as expressing his real feelings, but he does what he wants to do, he isn`t afraid to talk his toughts, even if what he says when it comes to Hira are totally different to what he actually thinks. Kiyoi is a really complex character, much more complex than Hira, and maybe you didn`t managed to spot this.

There are numerous times in the drama where Kiyoi asks all the right questions ( he don`t hesitate to ask them) like for exemple: he asks Hira if he is gay, he asks if Hira has something to say to him in his graduation day, he asks Hira if he is dating Koyama and if he likes him or Koyama, but Hira don`t say anything for the most part. Kiyoi is also the one that walked away from Hira when he found out that Hira sees their relationship as a servant and a King, he actually walked away ( this shows to me that he likes Hira too much for him to allow Hira to treat him like this and he was really hurt that Hira is perceiving their relationship like this). Kiyoi has never used Hira emotionally, and he has never lead him on, he liked Hira too, but at the same time was confused of the mixed signals Hira keeps sending to him.
Just think how frustrating things were for Kiyoi, even though Hira keep saying he loves him in the past, he has cut contact with him after graduating, and after reuniting every time he tries to become close to him, Hira don`t initiate anything between them, Hira doesn`t do anything. Yes, Kiyoi is too impulsive at times, but all that he does is because Hira is behaving the way he is, and he can`t understand his actions.

Both are at fault about what happens between them. Hira has decided all in his own that Kiyoi is his " King" and even through he likes him, he can only be allowed to serve him as a servant, and that Kiyoi is this GOD that he can`t reach. Hira is the one that did this, Kiyoi doesn`t do anything that encourage his behaviour, not in purpose at least. If you remember in ep 1, Hira has decided Kiyoi is the 'King" even before Hira sees Kiyoi (pretending to be) sleeping on that desk and before they actually interact for the first time.
When it comes to people relationships, the intentions behind everyone actions does matter, both of them hurt each other in the process of solving their misunderstandings, but both of them didn`t do it in purpose, they didn`t want to hurt each other just to hurt the other.

The miscommunication and misunderstandings that happened between them were created by both of them. Kiyoi has never imagined that Hira being like this with him, is because he wants to also serve him, and is not just pure love. He was so shocked whe he found out, but he still couldn`t give up, and has given what he and Hira has another last chance, because he did tought that despite everything Hira still loves him for who he is and that they can still work things out if he will be honest about his feelings and if he will confront Hira about him seeing him as a King.
This is such a long post, hope this post will make you understand Kiyoi better. Honestly, i felt that despite everything, both Hira and Kiyoi were made to end up together, because even through their personalities are so different, they have this bond that has taken shape in the past, that will prevent both of them to give up on the other. In the end, they both wants for the other to be happy, and i am sure if they will make another season, this will become more apparent.

Thanks for the info. I've only watched episode 6 ten times, but now I have a another great reason to watch it…
I think after you read the novels, it will only get harder to let go of this drama.
I mean, from my personal experience, i already liked the drama a lot after watching the first 3 eps, but after i listened to the first CD, then read the spanish transcription of it and in the end listened to the second CD too, i fall in love even harder for the story of Hira and Kiyoi. And those are only the CDs, i didn`t have the chance to read the characters toughts, and much more details that are in the novels.
In my case, i know the reason i can`t let go is that i am also attached by how Hira and Kiyoi are originally writed by Nagira Yuu.

I think you are right, the reason the drama is so fascinating to watch is that the production team has managed to bring to life exactly how Hira and Kiyoi are writed in the novel. I usually search and read for all the source materials the japanese BLs are adapted from, which usually are mangas, but i was impressed in how well they managed to bring to life Hira and Kiyoi, in this drama is like they have been brought to life from the pages of the novel. The personality, behaviour, almost everything is the same, with little changes. They even kept the most important and impressive lines from the novel. But at the same time they didn`t adapt some really impressive content too.
I`m also desperate to read the novels, but at the same time i am afraid that it will even harder to move on. But, well, i think as long as i will rewatch the drama from time to time, i will not feel the need to spend so much of my time thinking about the characters.

Hi if anyone has the raw or another full video of this/the video from smash of Kiyoi and Hira on a date https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4717763560734823…
Super cute. Thank you for sharing this. you are the best.
About this, i will add the comment Nana has made previously. This is all, there is not more than this.
"It’s not an episode, it was a few minutes clip of them dressing up and went on cheesy date, it’s only available for Japanese fans on their paid app since last week." - this is Nana comment. I`m amazed you managed to find it. I hope you don`t mind i will add this in the thread i made for where the drama can be watched with good subs..
After watching, the clothes Hira is trying looool, i was laughing so hard. I wanted to go back and see him in his usually neutral colours. I was so used to how he usually dresses that i find it really weird seeing him like this.

This comment is not only addressed to you, but to everyone who wants to read.Yes. To give you a new perspective…
No. What i meant is that i have knowledge about what happens in the novels by listening to the two CDs available.
Beside what i wrote before about reading the transcript in spanish of the first CD, i have also listened to the first and second CD, adapted from the first/ second novel. I have also given a summary about what happens in the second CD to some people who wanted to know what it happens.
All i know about the novels, CDs and everything related to them, i already mentioned in the discussion thread i made for the novel.

Yes. It was clear in the drama too, but here when we mentioned Koyama we were lazy to mention their full names, at least i was, and we only called them as Koyama and Koyama`s brother.

I can`t wait to watch ep 6 with lollilop subs, but i have to rewatch ep 5 with her subs too.
Can you believe that i rewatched all the eps yesterday, with viki and lollilop subs and it took me hours to go through them because it took me about 1 hour to watch every episode as i keep repeating scenes and delaying the moment the eps ends. Hahahaha, i am hopeless when it comes to this drama. This is the first it happened something like this with me. I never rewatched a drama as much as i did with Utsukushii kare.
I am also in the same opinion with you, every version of subs makes the experience better, especially since japanese is a language where the words can have so many different meanings, and is fun to see how the words are translated in every version.
