AAAND I find the ML's whole redemption arc very weird. I don't think he actually had a redemption, he just chose to ignore his past like everyone around him does because "he is a good boy".
Kdramas love to act like vigilantes in these cases, I even thought he would end up in jail since if he was involved with several of Baek Sang Gil's cases... he should be investigated too.
And stepping a bit outside the imaginary drama world... if it was supposed to be thaaat realistic, she would even be removed from the case for getting involved with someone so deeply tied to it, you know.

Yeah, I think about that too but if they got right into it I think it would be too heavy for a rom com. But I think that unlike others, they actually put something more realistic in there showing that he did commit crimes, but they leave it up in the air when it comes to murders. But if you notice, Baek Sang Gil tells him to deal with/get rid of the prosecutor right in the first few seconds of the series (where he casually arrives and asks if she was still alive, and only gets shocked when he recognizes her) so it is implied that yes, he has killed before and that it was customary for him to do this job of making people disappear.

The whole situation was very well put together in the drama itself. The only part that gave me the ick was him being in the mafia for 15 years but still being a virgin and getting shy over a kiss lollll. Other than that, I actually think they worked really well with The whole cliche.
And I thought the message was really beautiful, that sometimes we try so hard to win at any cost, and the things we give up to win are exactly what make us lose
A really good series, all the characters make sense and have clear motivations and nuances, very well-written script, good acting.
And honestly, it's the first of its genre in about 6 years where the villain's side (the plot/revenge/feelings) actually makes sense and complements the story, instead of what we usually see where it's just some angry relative trying to kill the good guys, or something completely random happening.
I WOULD ACTUALLY WATCH A SPIN-OFF ABOUT THE VILLAIN hahaha the story is so well-built that it makes you curious about his whole life.
I think the cast was very well selected and they blended together with perfect consistency... just like making caramel...
I just love Lee Jae-won's comedy hahah. I remember times when he was in a drama and we already knew he was a total player who would cheat or wouldnt commit to his girlfriend. But he is just so funny that you cant really hate him
if JHI plays Ml like a sleazy true to life gangster this drama’s premise would probably be even more problematic…
You completely missed my point.... No one is asking for him to act like a sleazy gangster or for the drama to be a raunch com. I am just pointing out how ridiculous it is to have a grown man around 40 years old, especially with his background, acting like a pure 15 year old virgin who blushes and covers his mouth over a simple kiss. There is a huge middle ground between being a sleazy guy and acting like an innocent teenager. He can just act like a normal... mature adult.... That is all....
Kdrama is now following Cdrama script. Virgin ML and exp FL.
back in the day there were a lot of stories about the playboy falling for the innocent girl, but there was also a wider variety of plots where both already had a romantic and mature past without all this puritanism.
Nowadays it seems like there is an exaggerated concern to keep the couple immaculate so the audience will not complain, so we end up seeing 35 and 40 year old actors doing these teenage things and it is kind of ridiculous. LIKE I NORMALLY JUST ROLL WITH IT YOU KNOW but wow this is kind of ridiculous

And I wrote 'ML, who is usually a handsome actor' because they usually are played by handsome actors. I don't actually find this specific guy handsome...... but whatever.
It's just so ridiculous because in the scene where he blushes over a kiss, he covers his mouth with his hand, and he literally has old man hands. AND WHY ARE YOU BLUSHING??????
Im on episode 2 and liking it so far, but there is something particularly annoying in new kdramas: its when they make the ML out to be a virgin who has never kissed. Come on, the guy was in the mafia!!!! Please, we don't care if he has already kissed or had sex... this is such a turn-off. Like, you want to make me believe that the ML, who is usually a handsome actor, is a virgin and has never kissed anyone at 35 years old? Oh, for the love of God. Older Korean dramas were honestly way more forward.
I felt the same way, it really feels more realistic. I do miss a bit of comedy, and sometimes I feel the male…
I really think this show was missing some comedy, but with the way the main characters are, it wouldn't have fit in anyway hahaha. AND Dynamite Kiss went totally downhill. It had a great start but completely lost the plot halfway through. Same goes for My Royal Nemesis....... It started out GREAT and I genuinely thought it would be the best of the year but halfway through it completely fell apart..
See You at Work gets a bit boring sometimes, but at least they stayed consistent right up to the end haha. It gives major 2010 script vibes, back when they were obsessed with France, learning French, and moving abroad to work in some random country
Tend to agree with you liked the more mature FL and ML roles in a kdrama for a change.. Liked the communication…
I finished it feeling exactly like that. Sometimes I felt bored, but other times I was curious to see how it was going to end hahahah.
I think it was mistagged as a rom com. There is some comedy, but not much of that goofy, cheesy kind. It is more of an 'I am going through a breakup and still have to put up with my boss's crap at work' kind of comedy. To me, it is more of a romance/drama
Tend to agree with you liked the more mature FL and ML roles in a kdrama for a change.. Liked the communication…
I love Business Proposal too!! But they are just dramas with very different premises (which is exactly where people end up disappointed). AND YES, it really does have more of a J-drama vibe hahah! (See You at Work has that vibe)
I haven't watched Love Your Enemy yet, but it has been on my watchlist for a long time... Lately I haven't been able to finish kdramas, I'm finding them all really bad. Just the fact that I managed to finish See You at Work is already a win for me, because at some points it was definitely a bit dull, yeah

Yes, exactly! I think most people tend to come in expecting a rom-com like Business Proposal, and when they're met with something more realistic without much comedy, they give it a bad rating. I think for what the series sets out to be, they did a really great job
And just like I mentioned here before: if this were any other year with strong K-drama releases, this one would easily be overlooked as one of the weaker ones. But honestly, this year has been so bad for romance K-dramas that I actually do consider this a good romance......... with a good script and good acting for what it sets out to do!!!
I think it's more of a slice of life kind of drama. It has romance, even with a few little problems, but nothing overly dramatic or intensely passionate. It's more like a romance between two grounded and "normal" adults, just like thousands of couples who meet at work.
It’s the kind of series you watch on a long holiday weekend, on a Sunday afternoon, or something like that. I really liked the FL, even though I think she overthinks and blows things out of proportion in her head (when it comes to their problems), especially considering she put up with way, way worse from her ex...
Regarding the chemistry, I think Seo In-guk has had better, but it's not something that ruins the drama. It’s meant to be slow and that's the whole premise of the show.
If you're not really into slice of life or slower paced dramas, I suggest skipping this one. But if you like a more realistic romance with a slower pace, this one is good!
