This was th first episode that I watched all of - usually I skip through a lot of Akk and Ayan because it's too…
re your last point while i agree, and have an iffy rship with the politics presentation in the show, i think many are missing that the protests represent a general strike which is more than just one linear demand. the social represents what goes along with the material conditions? which is why their initial grievance being so weak is a detriment but i am also not trying to think like the grown woman i am lol.
but i guess i interpreted it as the real point being that they moved from being punished for having the audacity to protest (stating grievances and/or demands), moved to striking (refusing/disrupting) because of that, and the school (military junta) cannot deal with even a whiff of descent. it's an exact copy of strikes, scabbing, and cops. it's good bc i think it's layered and makes it easier to accept that the 3 was the direct catalyst. actually this is a pro and a con idk anyways
Can I just fangirl over First here for a sec. I love beautiful smiles and there is no secret that First was blessed…
i love looking at him lol (not in a 'hes hot' way also im 2 much older) he's got an interesting face, a nice way of talking and moving, i think it's veryg ood for the camera. he's young and if he keeps working at it (i mean anyone but esp being a younger actor) he'll become even better. i think he was more dynamic in NM though, that's due to the tone of the show and the writing as well obviously, so i think looser roles with tighter scripts that give him an ability to have more range and move his body more are good for him. he really transformed as that kid in not me whose name i forgot woops (edit: his name was yok and he was lowkey yoked...true)
also in general he seems very wonderful (i mean he could not be we dk him but i'm assuming the people on that show gave him shit because he's way more vulnerable/open and they sensed that) but there's something about him !
I feel like some people fail to grasp that the show is as much about queerness as it is about politics, and Akks…
re yr first sentence: idt they are mutually exclusive tbh and i think that's where a lot of diff interpretations come from too. life is messy and complex and never just one thing
It is very interesting that this series has escaped censorship.... Dictatorial systems, repression, collaborationism,…
ty for sharing! i'm so disgusted over naming things "cleanliness and orderliness" or "social morality/social order" so repulsive. it's interesting to see ppls experiences too cos LOL i guess my background and identity makes me easily able to identify/callout the bullshit order and understand how it exists. crazy what privilege can allow (and it's a good thing people don't experience it cos no kid should go through this)
It's an amazing story.Only thing I can think about is this series should have had a different director... nothing…
i think it's cool director is NB and was in a gov position and maybe her next thing, if she wants, would be better. idek if anucha would want to work with them again lmao cossssssssssss tbqh i wouldn't. not after NM.
When this series was announced, it was very interesting, but in the 10 episodes shown, they did not move from…
i mean i think you need to be able to connect the dots on your own and perhaps exert a bit more effort on the first part. i am not being rude but what i mean is that you are not thai so maybe look up stuff about thailand in conjunction with watching the show? that's not to say thai people don't know a lot of their own history (because in this world most of us do not unless we exert effort for the very reason that the show is stating) but this is a domestic show they are sharing and if it is hard for you to understand on that level, if the thai population absolutely will, then yes it's up to you to explore that. it's a thai show.
for the rest.... they can sorta be answered. i don't want to assume that it's easier for everyone to grasp what others may see as obvious or can understand on an implicit level. i don't think you're dumb so i'm not implying that. and i think it's fair to say there are thai viewers who would probably feel the same as you. HOWEVER as you ask these questions to people you can answer them yourselves. yes it is a metaphor but not only for thailand, there's more than just one answer. and i think with this kind of stuff those details do become secondary (logistical ones) and, for me and others, less important to actually getting a story to be propelled. so my issue isn't the logic it's the pacing and decision making (so the writing, editing, etc) and yes your last sentence lol.
i wondered about the internet thing as well lol. but a lot of parents think this shit is normal and a lot of schools fucking suck (like parents!). like very. which is why they exist. this is private and they mostly have money but my school was kinda rough on its students (for a lot of reasons that are not good) and many get worse esp with race and class. you'd be surprised at the militancy in these schools which is exactly also the point.
edit: however i vehemently disagree that there is something inherently lacking in your media literacy because of your interpretation , or any perceived negatives or positives in that interpretation, of this particular work. i think we all need to work on it but i dislike that implication for something as miniscule as this. it's something i do, have done, and a lot of ppl in art do and need to work on and i see it as very much because we are in defense of the work itself. but the most important people are the audience and i believe us all to have more intelligence, as audience members, than simply not getting it and frankly know more than the production team themselves since we are the ones who must receive it. more audience confidence helps media literacy!
Not gonna lie, I had expectations in terms of the plot before starting this drama that were not met. With mystery…
i think that's a fair point. you may not connect to the allegorical part as much because it probably /isn't/ as strong you're correct. i think this is a couple of things:
- demographic which is inevitably going to be teens, particularly teen girls or people who align more with being a girl, and school life being he back drop. a huge part of school life? friendship and romance (that may or may not last!) - technical things and production wise. there's no way this series has a lot of money but i am shocked at the lack of product placement (as of me watching ep 7; or it's extremely strategic like that fridge) so i wonder how much $ they have - the story's pacing is a bit off and what spurred the whole show on is a bit of a weak plot point as someone pointed out above that i agree with
i agree with your assessment on NM as well. (first of all it was a messy story, they had little money, and they probs got censored a lot. i herad the diretor was cutting it the day before? which is so fuckign insane to me. and i liked it!)
i am extremely political and if i noticed the same patterns as you do, which i do, then i think it's fair to say wat you did! you understand that they are heavy but you can't get as invested. i am the same. i think it's good it gets people to at least think about it. they are getting away with A LOT in this drama because of that allegorical nature so i really hope more people are encouraged to look up radical movements and anti policing etc cos queer just flattens it imo it's about being able to be affirmed in life and not degraded when you refuse to settle. and it's very clearly extremely thai. with everything that is going on in the world that's cool.
i think that's why i stopped watching as my life picked up bc i wanted the story to propel more. i love romance but since i am here for the radical stuff as well it would be better to see more. i will finish it, they have good chemistry (the cast and akk/ayan), and it's nice to see something different but it's clear that this has a lot less put into it for the reasons mentioned above. alas such is life!
It’s the same as vice-versa and that show was a frickin mess. I normally don’t compare shows but if you are…
it was without pt 2 i think very high and then i think MDL changed ratings so everything basically was bumped down a point. i think this was in 2022? one of my faaav k-dramas was higher than it was now (and deserves higher :P). that show (ITSAY) absolutely deserves a higher rating and i didn't even finish it. it's extremely good and it was such a good show to introduce to that demographic production-wise, story-wise, etc. that show has veeeery little issues going for it, damn near perfect (and i did/do have critique for it), so that also surprised me.
It’s the same as vice-versa and that show was a frickin mess. I normally don’t compare shows but if you are…
yea i dont pay attn to them really. if it's like a 7.6+ i'll always investigate. they also changed the rating counting on here of this i am SURE which i think is good because it disallows more shows to be able to approach being a 10 when they most certainly should not be. i have never rated anything a 10 and don't believe anything can be so. people rely too much on the ratings which i get since it detracts/attracts people from the show but that's why our comprehension and media literacy needs to step its pussy up so people can form complex conclusions on why and what they wanna watch. how to express it and interpret other peoples concerns and how to approach it if they begin to watch (and also when to stop!)
and there's some straight up garbage that is just hella fun to witness too that i would never give above like a 5 so i think its worth it to explore more. sure the rating system may make you put in more effort (like me avoiding 7.6+ below but i try to fight that) but that's a good thing imo. there's also just intimidation and it's harder to express dissent once something becomes wildly popular. and since the most watched on here are generally k-dramas that is a whole-ass mess too. we rate the ratings waaay 2 much
tbh i just keep watching this due to main couple's chemistry, i think the plot is a bit dragging for me
yea that's why i stopped bc i couldn't really pay attn to it being a bit slow when life is so stressful lol like there's only so many hours in teh dayyyy
this is why queer shows should be directed by queer people! 1000 stars, bad buddy, not me, and now the eclipse…
idk abt the first two but i think the last two are a lot punchier in that regard which is why it's also more fascinating i think. a lot more mentally stimulating, to me but it also shows there's a plethora and range of stories to be told that aren't horrible and have diff messages and concerns. i'm not really positive about the genre as a whole for progress at ALL but those 3 shows (and now this one) have been very pleasant to watch/enjoy (even with their issues) and i guess that's why lol. never thot abt it. sad!!!! but good. but sad. sometimes. but yea (also: trans directors for this and NM ).
Namo looks suspicious to you because it's totally obvious he's been doing all the curse stuff. If you didn't find…
that's the kid with the cell phone trippin right? he looked like a lil bitch for that one second when he was tryna be the cell phone cop so yea. they were def tryna throw ppl off tho and the kid is a decent actor so were i not sober i could fall for it
I'll probably be in the minority here, plus I'm old as well but I think the writers should have used a different…
i think it's valid for their age but i agree with you over the principal. i'm from the US where not all schools do but many are starting too, mostly because of the absurd income inequality and it is genuinely just /easier/, and in the UK they do for all schools (below uni). thailand's got massive income inequality too. i'll say, though, that uniforms can be expensive but you don't have to worry about it more than once. i went to places where we needed uniforms for school as well (k-middle and HS) but am sure many other people that had uniforms can tell you the same: we idn't love it at the time (young'ns) though appreciate it now.
i think it's a little unfair to expect that of them since they are young and frankly, since i know there are uniforms in uni over there, i would be pissed if i was in my 20s and couldn't wear my own clothes even if i get it. so imagine being a teen! the problem is how they (the school) handled if. if you have a group that has low impulse control, you know because they're kids, and their demands may seem silly why not try to see it through their eyes?
that's what sani said: they just want to be heard! when there's strikes you have to compromise (for people/labor rights) or /explain/ (in situations like these) not by force or intimidation why their demands can or cannot be met. esp for those group of kids who already get shit bc of the school's inability to not control tem.
in all the priv schools i went to we had free clothes days for school where one day we wouldn't have to wear our uniforms and many times we had to work for it (you read x amount of books, you get to wear your own clothes for a day). it may not be "worth" protesting but it is to them and there's nothing wrong with formally organizing to do so—in fact that's great, that's how we win! sure a bigger issue but that's just a segue.
btw i totally get you there's this awesome (but unfortunate) story of kids in SK who wanted to strike basically over their treatment at this performing arts school—the absurd hours, the promises, the abuse from teachers/people, misogyny, classism etc—which was exciting and magical to hear about. would they protest over their uniforms? probably not but perhaps it would be one of their demands. i wonder if in the book they protested for the same reason but idk! to be fair the director has been in politics too so. i think it's an adequate analogy for them to have for the age range they expect for viewership. alas i am 30 so.
been a while since i watched bc life is really hard rn but how has it been since ep 7? the comments are interesting! wait i thought the series was 14 eps....goddamnit!
but i guess i interpreted it as the real point being that they moved from being punished for having the audacity to protest (stating grievances and/or demands), moved to striking (refusing/disrupting) because of that, and the school (military junta) cannot deal with even a whiff of descent. it's an exact copy of strikes, scabbing, and cops. it's good bc i think it's layered and makes it easier to accept that the 3 was the direct catalyst. actually this is a pro and a con idk anyways
