You wouldn't know them because I guess you only watch Thai shows but for example Japanese BLs are always underrated on this platform and lots of them deserve much better.

Thai BLs are notoriously overrated because MDL is full of obsessive fans who hype their favs (there are some seriously lame shows that are at 8 even if the reviews and comments are terrible) Duang with you is a good show but isn't worthy of a 9 whereas some masterpieces barely reach 7.8

As a person who watches shows I'm perfectly entitled to say what I enjoy or not in said show. It's not about 'supporting' or 'putting down' an actor, shippers or fangirls like you should understand that even if you watch show just for your favs, lots of people want to watch good dramas with good actors. Don't worry for your precious little Dunk, he's so popular that he doesn't need to be good to be successful

I love First and Khaotung but couldn't go past episode 2 of THK because of Dunk's acting so I'm excited to see them in something new and with better co stars

I don't mind it because it's a convention, we know it's not natural (like those inner monologues said out loud) but it's here to convey the spirit of traditional mangas in live actions. Again, I think you're still new to this world and that's why you can't adjust to it. After 20 years of reading mangas and watching dramas, I have to admit I don't even notice. On the contrary, I often find that adaptations of mangas don't work in other countries when they play it too seriously (like Hana Yori Dango in Thailand for example)

Because you're only watching dramas adapted from mangas. Don't generalise a whole industry from the few shows you've watched.

So true, I've been thinking the same since I first saw him in Theory of Love. He almost had a main role in Be my Favorite but ended being replaced by Gawin (who also waited way too long to be a ML btw) It really shows how Thai shows rely on nepotism and popularity instead of talent and charisma.

That's the usual problem with Thai BLs, the characters get together too early in the series and then you either have empty episodes where characters have nothing to do but look at each other lovingly or silly conflicts that come out of nowhere. I am a romance fan but 4 episodes of lovey dovey moments would be too much for me, and a pointless breakup would be even more annoying.

Exactly, I enjoyed the Thai version however, like almost all Thai BLs it's fun but not actually good. It's way too long, the storyline sometimes makes no sense and some actors are clearly limited. I'm still not totally sold on the Japanese version but the absurd reactions of the Thaiboos on this site and other platforms makes me want to defend it even if I'm not a fan.

I've just realized that I've seen the actor who plays Kai in other shows and I remember being annoyed that he only did fake kisses. If he's not even willing to film kiss scenes, I guess we can't expect any intimate scenes in their part ( kind of weird given their storyline)

Then I'll just try and watch the storylines with the other pairings (which are interesting as you said) when everything is over. I'm always intrigued by what Santa brings to a part and Mark is great no matter what role he plays.

The problem is that the standards keep getting lower when it comes to Thai BL. I can't believe how successful We Are was when it was a painfully boring show that had absolutely nothing new to offer. And now, 30 episodes with ForceBook (the least talented pairing ever) as mains, it's like GMMTV is trying to tell us we should finally drop Thai BL for good.

You're right it's completely down to the quality of the writing and directing. I so often end up fast forwarding the second half of shows but it's probably the sign to stop watching bad dramas and choose more wisely.

You mentioned Life Senjou No Bokura and it's actually a great example so it's proof that it can be done well. If more shows were like this one I of course wouldn't complain. That being said, having grown up on old Hollywood romances, I do feel like the "happily ever after" ending is one of the staples of the genre. Of course, it takes good writing to not make it draggy and it can't last for too many episodes (that' s why Thai BLs can't do it properly) On a more selfish note, I'm probably less interested in long term relationships in romance because I'm in one, I know how it lasts but I like being reminded how it starts!

I actually think the opposite, as a romance fan I feel that too many shows become less interesting once the characters are in a relationship. It's the case in almost all Thai BLs as well as most Korean "traditional" romances where you end up with far fetched conflicts to fill up the remaining episodes. Established relationships are great in real life but they don't make very interesting plots, at least in the romance genre.

What's even weirder is that people seem to have a selective memory. Several Thai BL actors have said a lot worse but in their case nobody seems to mind. When you see for example that Hidden Agenda is a huge success (despite being objectively bad) and people never mention what Joong said (or they try to excuse him in some way). I'm not necessarily a fan of Krist, but to see that he's still being called homophobic and mocked when all the others got out unscathed, I find it pretty unfair.

Totally agree, it's terribly distracting, I'm pretty sure it's a wig. At least the wig is not Remember Me level bad, but I still have a problem with it.

Completely agree, I think it's not just make up but also bad plastic surgery. As you said he was the hottest cast member in 2M2 and now looks like a completely different person. When I saw the trailer I immediately thought about Russ from Friends, Rachel's boyfriend in one episode who is just David Schwimmer in bad prosthetics. It's so bad it actually put me off watching the show altogether.
