I wish there were subtitles for this :( I understand Lan Zhan's character, but I love stuff like this :D Hmmm...…
Analyse everything and post them somewhere we can read it XD I've been reading metas on the characters on tumblr for weeks now and I just love it <3 Also I feel that my rewatching is deeper thanks to that, since I understand the characters on a higher level now :D

The leads did
I personally recommend watching the drama first, that's what I did. The novel is indeed more detailed but even though it will help you understand what happens in the drama despite the plot-holes (because some things are not explained in the drama), you might also have a sense of loss since the BL isn't as explicit in the drama. Also, it depends on how you react to dramas but as for me, knowing the story before-hand (aka who dies and when, who's the big bad guy and stuff) makes me unable to completely dive into the drama and feel the scenes as intensely. But that's really just a matter of taste ^^

Ahahah this was so funny and SO relatable XD Lately I've been wondering how to tell my man (who lives quite far away from me for now) that I've been obsessing over a BL drama (The Untamed) and that I am in love with the main actors... I guess it will remain a secret forever ^^" Thankfully there is internet to find fangirls like us, with whom we can share our love. And thankfully there is an "hidden album" option in my phone that my bf doesn't know about so he won't ever find my collection of shameful BL gifs ahah :D

Ikr ! i have noticed too, that in the drama/story, WWX si the one with a very thick face, who can do about anything and never feel embarassment from it (just look at how the one in the novel acted with LZ after reincarnation XD), while irl WYB is the one with a thick face, not even embarassed of sending memes of himself to others or teasing XZ to the fans pleasure XD

Yes, it's also because of the fact that Shizui is the "last light" in the last stage of Wei Wuxian's first life…
Then you're fine ! The sex scenes in the novel are super graphic XD
Indeed WWX is way darker in the novel in the sense that he really is responsible for most of the things he is accused of and gets overpowered by resentful energy. And I also like the way the Wens died better, it makes more sense than in the drama. However at the same time I think the novel doesn't give each character as much depth as in the drama... so I really think it's great to have the possibility to both read the novel and see many other adaptations, it helps flesh out the story and characters ^^ . Either way, have a nice time reading the novel ! ;D

Yes that whole "situation has changed" and "I heard from WN" doesn't make much sense... but the novel provides answers for a lot of things so it's a recommended read :) Beware of smut though ^^"

Well actually it depends of which "story" you are talking about. In the drama indeed LZ went to Burial mounds while WWX was going to his sister and that's when he found Ah Yuan. However in the novel the plot was a bit different. WWX and most of the Wens (all of them except WN and WQ basically) didn't die during the Nightless city events. They survived and continued to live, while LZ was whipped and grounded after protecting WWX. While he was grounded and recovering, he heard about an attack at Burial mounds and the fact that WWX was dead. So he escaped from Cloud recesses (despite being super hurt because of the whipping) and went to Burial mounds only to find that everyone was dead (which makes it even more tragic than in the drama imo). And that's when he found Ah Yuan.
As for ep 32 when he says that the situation has changed... honestly I'm not really sure what he means either tbh. But I thought that he probably discovered that someone else than WWX was controlling WN back when JZX was killed and so WWX wasn't responsible (which once again is different from the novel, in which WWX did lose control and end up killing all the people he is accused of killing).
I hope that makes it clearer ^^" Well I recommend to read the novel actually, because lots of kinda plotholes from the drama get explained there :)

He held it in his pouch and turned the sword into the Stygian Tiger Metal. While he was falling down the Burial…
I guess that's the biggest reason indeed XD but even without him there would still be the Wen clan and ultimately the problem with the golden core so... I guess he's not the only one responsible ^^"

Ahaha you're trying to make too much sense out of this drama when some things just DON'T have an answer because the drama is very flawed (but we still love it) XD
But to answer your question, MXY was taken in by the Jin clan when he was 13 but was kicked out not long after. He is now supposed to the be in his 20's so him seeming different would make sense, especially since he didn't stay with the Jin clan long enough for many people to remember him. Apart from that, it is also stated in the drama that even back then MXY had the habit of wearing a mask and/or make-up. So even if WWX shows his face to, let's say, Jin Ling (who knew MXY but not WWX), Jin Ling wouldn't be able to realise that the 2 people are different, since he only ever saw MXY with a mask. I hope I was clear ^^"

As far as I remember it's not really mentioned but they say that when WWX died (into the novel he doesn't die at Nightless city but later on), LZ, who is grounded after being whipped, crawls out of Gusu and goes to try and find something that could be left of WWX. And the only thing he finds in Ah Yuan. So he takes the child back and pressures his uncle and brother to accept him as a Lan. The fact that Ah Yuan becomes Lan Yuan also implies that he is adopted in the family (since he shares the same surname). Saying that Ah Yuan is the last light left by WWX is mostly how fans see it, but it is pretty obvious that after WWX died, LZ was broken-hearted and he would save and care for the child the one he loves used to raise. I honestly think that just like SZ said, LZ acted as his dad and as his brother through his life, which can be noticed also because they both have very gentle personalities (SZ is similar to LZ while JL is similar to JC XD)

the song hummed by lwj in the xuanwu cave when healing wwx (called wangxian -- a portmanteau of their names)it…
Actually NHS is very smart indeed, and hides it very well, but his cultivation is weak and he can't fight well. That's why he decided to bring WWX back and use him to handle his revenge. Moreover he's the kind of guy that can't be bothered with all political stuff and whatnot, and showing how smart he is would only shed light on him, which he doesn't want.
As for what JGY was searching in the temple at the end, it was his mother's corpse. The temple actually used to be the whorehouse where he grew up and when his mom died, he burned it and created a temple, buried his mom in it so everyone would worship her in her death. It is not explained in the drama so I would recommend to read the novel for a better understanding of what is going on. You can find the translation on exiledrebels website. But beware that the relationship between LZ and WWX is much more explored... and smutty (like really) ^^"

I am the exact same ! And I even grew the habit every morning when I wake up to browse the internet (mostly tumblr and YT) for any TU-related content. I even started reading fanfics which I NEVER even thought of doing before >.< I guess I'm not getting over it soon

Ahah omg you're so right ! XD Actually that's what I like in a lot of BLs, they don't go for the "you're a man…
Tbh I was exactly the same at first. I love BL (more Chinese and Taiwanese than thai ones, that I find uncomfortable and not that engaging to watch), and when I learned that TU was bromance I just decided not to watch it. But an online friend pressured me into watching and it was the best decision of my drama-watching life ! As you said, I've never felt the love so much, and surrounded by such an amazing sotry and complex characters!
And yeah, that's totally what I mean, maybe we can all be bisexual in the end, because love is love. The reason we are not is because of societal pressure and education, both led by reproduction-oriented mindset that dates back from before the concept of romantic love was created. It really is a chance for every country and person that beautiful dramas can be created promoting same-gender love, because I am sure it can have a great influence on people's ideas. I, myself, have been raised by a catholic family, kinda ok with homosexuality but still thinking deep down that it's wrong. So I never thought I could become this ok with it, and I really have to thank dramas for that. I am sure they will have an impact on chinese society too :)

An extra audio drama chapter subbed in english. LZ is such a great caring husband!! If I was a guy I would be…
Ahah omg you're so right ! XD
Actually that's what I like in a lot of BLs, they don't go for the "you're a man and I'm gay so I love you" but for the "I just don't care about your gender, I love you because you're you". Idk how to explain but it might make it easier for people to accept, even for those who don't like BL or are against gay relationships, because it is more than about gender and I like the message behind it. It makes me reconsider what we, as humans, deem to be the "normality" as far as relationships are concerned. We think people are straight or gay, but maybe it's all about being bi... because the person matters, not his/her gender.
Ok maybe I went a bit too philosophical here XD

Im reading the novel too like many here. Im glad I watched the drama first because the novel is much more confusing.…
I totally agree about the fact that the novel is confusing! Everyone loves it and well, I do too, but I wouldn't have been able to grasp completely the story if I hadn't watched the drama before. Also I feel like the drama developed parts that were left out in the novel, like sometimes the novel says some characters fought but we don't get to actually see the fight while the drama shows it to us.

Anyways, about the side stories, I really don't know... I think it was the same author because the writing style is similar, especially in the not steamy parts. But I agree that I was surprised she wrote scenes that were THAT smutty at the end ^^"

I have been blaming Jiang Chen to cause Wei Ying to lose his (Wei Ying's) golden core because Jiang Chen was acting…
Well I like him much more than I liked his mom. She was a badass fighter but I always disliked the way she treated Wei Ying or talked to others, even though I understand her reasons. JC has harsh words but his actions are pretty clear on who he cares about and what he would do for his loved ones. And he is capable of saying nice words/having nice initiatives for others. His mom... well maybe she didn't have the time to show us her real caring side, but I never felt very attracted to her personality...
