This is not your typical revenge kdrama where you will see the protagonist acting like a superhero / anti hero giving out satisfying punches. This is almost like an indie Drama / humanity movie that’s raw, feels real, and will make you uncomfortable. It’s quiet and almost documentary .
You will see the director focuses on the protagonist’s face more during fight scenes so you can truly understand and feel what his emotions are. Even if he may be good at fighting, he’s still just a 17 years old kid (Korean age 18). He doesn’t even swear well and he’s not the brightest “avenger” ever with a big well planned plot.
This is a story with director asking questions about how should disadvantaged people get justice. They have real life struggles and unfortunately, that means it is also unsettling at times. We sometimes also look away because our lives are difficult enough. The director just hope we can be reminded to at least look at them once.
Saw some people said not much happened but personally thought it’s all prep works and psychological revenge at this point. I for once actually appreciate the “nothing-ness” this writer usually does lol like it actually not just conversations without moving the plot, this time these are all actual preparations to stir things up among the bullies.
the monarch is her best series. the first time she really created a complex plot. only her fans are not used to…
Monarch’s “plot” did not make sense at all lol she tried hard to create one but it failed so badly lol the villains legit did all that for nothing. It leads to nowhere with all those switching.
First week has too little actual content so little has happened and I honestly don’t need a repeat of the exact same scene for 3 times (fight). The directing is weird. But it has all the interesting elements and leads are all good looking lol I opened this wanting a simple fantasy entertainment just want everyone to look cool while doing it so super low expectations = I am still looking forward to next week lol
I am loving the opening week. I also liked ep1. I am never someone who can’t handle build up episodes and usually found what I like in the first 15 minutes even if it’s all build ups lol You know the tone, the logic, the humor and directing usually really early on.
Personally i loved that FL’s ex who had been with her for 6 years aren’t really a “jerk” - he came to the funeral and comforted FL in a very realistic way someone who was sincere dating but just got tired of the relationship would do. And him apologizing to her “I am sorry that I wasn’t able to support you by your side” loved the line. Just by how they portrayed this ex already gave me great insights into how they are handling the characters and the direction of the plot in this show.
Also loved how FL packed up her whole life and willingly went to the countryside in this. It’s a nice detour from many similar shows.
I am very big on slice of life dramas so this is totally my taste. I LOVE city people finding their inner peace by going slower but sadly didn’t like hometown chachacha nor My Blues. I am glad this one seems promising!
(Also while I am not a “fan” of Im siwan but four dramas that he picked were amazing scripts that I loved a lot - Misung, Hell For Others, Run On, Tracer. Especially Run On and Tracer are really my top shows ever. So I will always start a show he picked just to see if I like it or not - he has really good eyes for scripts)
Honestly don’t know what people was expecting 😂 of coz ep2 will be much more fun than ep1 since this is a reborn show - the juiciest stuffs happen after he died hahahaa plus it’s a big family they need time to build that world and introduce the characters lol ep1 was fun in its own but you knew it can’t compare to ep2 after it officially start??? Lol
They transitioned from young Do Jun to the older one so fast. I guess it is to capitalize on Song Joong Ki more.…
Mydramalist isn’t official 🤣 it can only update what info/news updated by the production team. I don’t think we will see shin’s role more it doesn’t really have anything to do much w the plot now
