Title Bad Genius
Lynn and Grace are so attractive and honestly that was 50% of the reason I finished this movie. The first half of the movie is kinda slow but it really ramps up in the second and the suspense and the thriller aspects are top notch. Every person is a bad person to some degree but damn if Lynn is a smart badass female character you don't always get to see. For novices, everyone acted really well. I would definitely recommend watching if you're bored and don't know what else to watch. 8.5/10.

Title Bad Genius Spoiler
I hated what they did to Bank's character. Lynn basically corrupted him and ruined his entire future and never once apologized but still pretends like she had the moral high horse. Honestly, comrade Bank, go on with the cheating schemes. Get that bread and buy your mom a mansion.

I know there was a lot of hype around this drama but the synopsis sounded very dry to me. I thought I'd give it a chance because I was impressed by Suda Masaki in Hiraagi-sensei's Classroom and I was pleasantly surprised. At first, it was a bit slow but after that I was enjoying myself immensely. Except for an episode or two, the plotting was exquisite. As one reviewer somewhere mentioned, each episode's story could have been expanded into a movie of its own; on a rare occasion where an episode didn't land quite right, it was still good compared to other mystery show.

The cinematography and production values were off the charts, many scenes looked like they could be paintings. The acting was uniformly excellent; as usual, Suda Masaki was fantastic, the bromance/chemistry with Yamada Takayuki was palpable, and the actress playing the sister did a good job as did the guest actors (shoutout to Hashimoto Ai!). The music wasn't spectacular but it got me into the vibe of the show and the emotions of the story. I would definitely recommend this drama to people who like suspense, thriller, mystery, detective genres. 9/10.

Honestly, I loved how realistic (well, not completely but still...) hacking was in this. I usually skip "hacking"…
As a computer science major, it's not exactly super realistic but still better than most movies or TV shows. That said, I couldn't help smiling when Kei said (hacker voice) "I'm in", word for word.

I'm brown. I've been born in a brown household. I've watched Bollywood growing up. What I was talking about was…
Lol, you might not be an Indian citizen but if your parents or grandparents are from India, you're at least of Indian heritage. But that's neither here nor there.

Calling yourself or someone "brown" is a second-gen term, something people whose parents immigrated from India to a Western country would say. No one in India calls themselves brown kyunki idhar hum sab "brown" hai, there are no white people or whatever to define ourselves against. It has nothing to do with "class or caste," it just sounds weird to us. Based on my own experiences as an Indian immigrant, most of us don't find it racist or offensive most of the time, it's just strange to us.

This drama felt too short and too long at the same time, too short because even in a plot driven show your characters…
A lot of what you mentioned was directly taken from the novel and a lot more believable in the drama. Only the reverse Oedipus situation was made up for the drama.

And this is a gripe specific to the drama but damn I wish they fleshed out the relationship between Shinkai and Airi more. I wanted more romantic scenes. Or any really. Homegirl deserved it.

I didn't like what they did with Sumire. Like, Mercedes always loved Dantes and explicitly rejected Fernand after finding out what he did. Here, she's still in love with him. Idk why they had the ending scene with the fire and the new marriage proposal, the book Count would never do something so flashy and even the drama's Count knows she doesn't really love him anymore. Sumire is just a more annoying person than Mercedes.
I haven't seen the other adaptations of the novel but I can say this is a damn good one. They omitted a lot of characters and subplots and added some of their own but in most cases, it worked out well and made the story even better. From what I heard, this Japanese drama was a lot more faithful to the novel than most of the other adaptations, though.

What I loved is that they made the female characters have a lot of agency and courage in the drama and the villains somehow even more evil. It also got really twisted at some points but in a good way.

The drama was always suspenseful and damn compelling, the acting was topnotch, the story and OST was amazing. One of the best jdramas I've seen so far. 8.9/10.

How is it that this kind of genre is so underrepresented in Asia? This drama was so great! Can only recommend.
If you liked this, you should try "Last One Standing", "Train" and "Someday or One Day." All are sci-fi but the last two are time travel dramas.

This "both sides" argument doesn't work on rapists just as it doesn't work on Nazis. Don't shame people for being "nuanced" for not "understanding" the POV of a f**king rapist. Don't shame the women involved for drinking alone with one of their work colleagues. The entire blame falls on the man who decided *out of his own free will* to force himself on his *colleagues*.

If you somehow managed to extricate yourself from situations where you're not alone with a man, good for you. The rest of the world doesn't always get the chance to keep themselves safe. Rather, the onus is on the men of this world who take the mundane events as opportunities to take advantage of women. Do you think if this chutiya was alone with two male colleagues in this scenario, he would do this to them?

You're shielding your brave and woke take by pretending to be nuanced. But if you ever start an argument that goes like, "Sure, he is a rapist buutt those women should have...", the problem lies with you not the other people who might call you out on it. Istg, pick me women are just as bad as the actual offenders bc they act like enablers.

This is one of the best detective dramas I've seen. If you've seen The King; Eternal Monarch and wished they did characterization, plotting, world-building, acting, and the parallel worlds concept a 100% better than they did, then this drama is for you!

This drama has one of the best soundtracks. Like, I'm constantly playing the playlist someone made on Spotify with all the songs from the drama.
On Seirei no Moribito Aug 2, 2020
Speaking of India, this drama had the budget, special effects and the production value of your avg Indian "fantasy" show on SAB or Sony TV like Balveer (i.e. low on all counts). However, Moribito was quite good. The acting was great and you could tell the writers gave alot of thought to worldbuilding. The pacing was a bit slow though and there's a lot of exposition and flashbacks. If you're into fantasy and action, I'd recommend watching if you have nothing else to watch. 8/10 (asiancrush app).

This reminded me of the East Asian shows I'd watch in between Ninja Hattori and Takeshi's Castle when I was 7-9 back home in India, tbh. Got hit with a strong dose of nostalgia.
