He loved general Li Shuang at first sight because she was his saviour. No one knew that Jin An wasn't an ordinary man. Jin An was half man and half demon (and he also had amnesia). Poor Jin An was trying to hide the fact that he was a demon. He didn't want to scare General Li Shuang and her soldiers so he tried his best to pretend that he's an ordinary human - soldier. Jin An had lost his memory, but in the past he was a glorious king. His relatives betrayed him , abducted him , trapped him in a cage and forced -fed him a magical poison which turned him into a demon and caused him amnesia. Now poor Jin An is a freak of nature. Half man half demon with amnesia. He only remembers that General Li Shuang saved him in the woods and nothing else. He loves her deeply and he wishes she could be his woman but that's nearly impossible. He tries to make her notice him by achieving great military successes. Jin An focuses of being an extraordinary soldier in order to catch Li Shuang's eye and please her. He's desperate to win her favour and her love. He's obsessed with her. He uses his supernatural powers and saves Li Shuang whenever she's in danger. All the soldiers see him as a monster but Li Shuang trusts him deeply and sees him as a friend. With time he was able to gain her love. Their chemistry is superb. Although he's very jealous of her , he's not a red flag. He's morally grey though. He's good only to Li Shuang and he's cruel with his enemies. He can kill hundreds of enemy soldiers by using his supernatural powers. He uses his powers in order to help Li Shuang win the war but he doesn't realise that in the past he used to be her enemy (as a king of the neighbour enemy -kingdom).

Well.... Prince Sima Yang isn't the Idea husband. I never felt sorry for him. Let me explain why.... He claims that he loves Li Shuang but he wants her only as a concubine. As a main wife he wants a princess. He also already has many concubines. He's a selfish man. Wants everything for himself.
Also at some point in the book , general Li Shuang was trapped in moving sand together with prince sima yang. Then prince Sima Yang used her as a leverage in order to escape the moving sand and by escaping he pushed her even deeper inside the sand. Thankfully Jin An was there and pulled her out , or else she would be dead. Sima Yang is selfish. His love is selfish. On the other hand , Jin an can sacrifice himself at anytime for his beloved Li Shuang. Whenever she's in danger, Jin an is always there to save her. He constantly uses his body as a shield to protect her. He took an arrow for her. He got poisoned for her. He got abducted for her. He can literally die for her without second thought. Li Shuang was moved deeply by his love. She fall for him despite him being a demon, because she felt his love and royalty. As their relationship progresses, Li Shuang teaches Jin An how to control his emotions. He becomes less aggressive and less jealous. He feels more and more secure. But they'll soon have to face the truth.... Jin an is the king of a rival kingdom. He doesn't remember it , but he is. So that means that Li Shuang is in love with her greatest enemy... Poor jin an is amnesiac . He doesn't know a thing.

She only protects him whenever he's in danger because it is her duty (since he's a prince and the future emperor). But she doesn't like him at all and she makes that clear to him several times. He refuses to listen to her though. He flirts with her shamelessly and repeatedly. Jin an is very jealous of Prince Sima yang's stupid flirting and he tried to kill him by stubbing him in the chest with his sword. General Li Shuang managed to get in his way seconds before the fatal blow. Jin An was shocked that Li Shuang was defending prince Sima Yang's life and he got angry with her. Later on Li Shuang tried to explain to JinAn that Sima Yang means nothing to her as a lover. She only protects him because he's a prince and the future emperor. Then JinAn felt a little better. He apologised to Li Shuang for his misbehaving. Later in the book.....when prince sima yang tried flirting with Li Shuang again, Jin An managed to control his temper. He didn't attack . He said nothing. He just stayed there watching Li Shuang refusing Sima Yang politely. Overall... Li Shuang taught him how to control his feelings. Important note: Jin An is not a human being. He used to be a human in the past. Specifically he was a king , but he got betrayed by his relatives. They abducted him and fed him a magical poison which turned him into a demon and caused him amnesia. So... Jin An is half man half demon and he has amnesia. It is very hard for him to control his feelings. But with Li Shuang's help , he eventually manages to do so. He loves li Shuang deeply, because she saved him from his abductors. Li Shuang is his saviour. The most important person in his life. His entire word. He hates every man whom is close to her. He gets jealous easily. But he matures and eventually learns how to control his demonic nature. Jin an has no memory of his life. The only thing he remembers is being in a cage and some unknown men were torturing him and forced -feeding him a magical poison which turned him into a demon. And then he remembers that General Li Shuang saved him. That's why Jin An is obsessed with Li Shuang. He loves her beyond imagination. He's very jealous of her .

It was a very strong kind of magic that bound him into being a half demon. Li Shuang was willing to love him no matter what he was, man or demon. Latter on it was revealed that Li Shuang's father (the great old general Shuang) was implicated into Jin An's demonic transformation along with Jin An's relatives. Overall.....The couple will have to face a huge crisis and Jin An. Jin An used to be the former king of the rival kingdom. Betrayed by his royal family he ended up in a cage being tortured by magicians whom turned him into a demon . He's now a freak of nature , everyone hates him , and he has amnesia. The only thing he remembers is that general Li Shuang saved him in the woods when he was unconscious in the middle of the forest. On top of that he found out that Li Shuang's father was one of the 6 people whom poisoned him. There are plenty of things that separate the main couple. Huge secrets and a war in between their kingdoms . But the drama has a happy ending. 🤣 Despite the fact that JinAn learnt he used to be a king of a nearby kingdom, he chose to stay with Li Shuang and he never returned to take back his throne. Li Shuang abandoned her post as a general and run off with Jin An. They spent their lives together, living isolated from the world in the woods. Away from the war and from everyone. In the book he's a red flag (but not too red). When female lead (general Li Shuang) saved him in the woods , he immediately started to admire her deeply. He started loving her really quickly and he wanted her only for himself. He was extremely jealous of other men being next to her and he even tried to kill a prince for flirting with general Li Shuang . Jin An was extremely possessive. Also one day a general from a rival kingdom along with his army were threatening to kill Li Shuang. Then Jin An used his supernatural powers and electrocuted the entire army and killed the rival general. Then he decapitated his head and presented it as a gift to li Shuang. Li Shuang saw the head and freaked out. Jin an thought it was a romantic gift. But in reality is a disturbing sight. Overall Jin An is a red flag because he's a demon. Sadly he has become a monster (because his relatives fed him this magical poison). Jin an is aggressive, possessive and madly in love. Something like Tan Tai Jin in Till the end of the moon
