This felt like a 2000s weekend drama, which had its 100 episodes compressed into 12. They cut out most of the unnecessary drama, but kept the vibe. Kind of a weird experience.
It's not bad, but couldn't possibly rate this higher than a 8.0. This just felt too much like someone forgot the script in a drawer for 10 years and then made an abridged version out of a story that was originally supposed to fill many more episodes.
Though I have to applaud the writers for actually skipping all the bloat, and exaggerated drama which usually make these kinds of shows so bad.
Truth be told, the story isn't anything special. The FL is a doormat, and the ML shows the same frozen expression for pretty much the entire show. The whole criticism of beauty standards the writers are trying to push feels damn shallow considering the entire cast looks freaking gorgeous but who cares about consistency. Even then, I actually quite liked the drama. It's an easy watch, also it strikes a good balance between romance, comedy, and drama. If it was released today I'd rate it more harshly, but taking its age into consideration I give it a 7.5 - 8.0.
The ML sums it up quite succinctly in the 1st episode: I'm not feeling it! I can't really put my finger on it, but for some reason I'm not enjoying this show. I don't find it funny, or cute, or even annoying. It's simply not resonating with me, which is really a shame since I'm a big fan of Yoo In Na.
I had a blast watching this. Though the story is not particularly deep, somewhat nonsensical at times even, it's simply fun to watch. With Haru and Gaku the show has two really likable main leads, with a nice dynamic. The friendship between the good-hearted conman and the shy nerd works really well. I really hope the show will have a second season, it was hinted at after all.
If Go Ahead had stuck with the family drama theme it followed during the beginning and left out the unnecessary and cringy romance during the later half it would have been my favorite drama. I hope the remake does better in this regard, however I have little hope that the early parts about the childhood days will live up to the original.
The guy has like 90% of his face/head covered. For all I know this could be Bruce Lee 😅 I'd make the worst paparazzi, since I'd fail to recognize anybody as long as they wear a simple face mask.
Why the actors over 30 years old are playing college students is beyond me..
In K-Drama you’ve got 30-year-olds playing high school students. In C-Drama high school students play roles that should be played by 30-year-olds. 😅 Considering this I think I prefer older people playing younger roles, but to each their own 🤷♂️
FL looked familiar. I know her from the movie Vertigo where she played the female lead. Also, KDW is one of my favorite actors, so my expectations are high.
Just finished my third rewatch. Still one of my favorite romance dramas. Really can't understand how people find this boring. I love the documentary/interview style and the pacing. Also, the comedy is pure gold.
From the comments it seems like many people hate Eun Oh, while I actually find her character very interesting. Of course, she is deeply flawed, however she was hurt very badly which left her emotionally scarred. In fact, compared to her I have a far bigger problem with Rin Yi, who I find simply selfish. Eun Oh at least has an explanation for her actions and in addition feels deeply conflicted and guilty about what she's done. Rin Yi on the other hand only cares about herself and shows zero remorse.
My favorite character though is Kang Gun. He usually seems like a total pushover and he puts himself somewhat beneath Eun Oh and Rin Yi. However, he's actually the most mature and observant among the three friends. I love the scenes where he's not fooling around but is actually serious.
In my opinion the film lacked purpose. I didn't get anything out of it, which rarely happens to me. None of the characters (except for the uncle maybe) gave me any reason to care for them. As for the story, it's so generic that even though I hardly watch this genre I still felt like I've watched at least 10 movies that had more or less the same plot. The only thing positive is the cinematography which is very well done and the acting; both leads did a great job. Finally, like others mentioned the ending is pretty satisfying.
I just started the show. I’m on episode 3 and already seeing it go down the romance side. No No NO! Why do they…
Why watch a romcom if you dislike romance?
It‘s like saying you don‘t like football, but then you go off to watch the Super Bowl, complaining that they should have rather focused on the halftime show than the game… go to a concert then?
If you don‘t like romance in a drama look for shows that have no or little romance in them (the tags are your friend)…
Complaining because a romcom focuses on romance is absurd.
I totally respect your opinion! I had similar thoughts when I was around ep 7 but as I had nothing else to do,…
Thanks for the different view. I guess you have a point, I never really considered the other people‘s role and how they treated the work nonchalantly.
I got to the point where they did the presentation for the design bid. The whole situation left me with a really bad aftertaste. The ML handled this pretty poorly and then was even a dick about it afterwards.
I guess I‘ll give this another chance for a few episodes and see how it develops.

Writer: "I want to do a romcom!"
Production company: "We've got funding for a makjang."
Writer: "Challenge accepted!"
