I absolutely loved the bgm tune played towards the end in episode 18 when Dongfang smears a bit of some kind of maroon paste on orchid's face. That gave a timeless, classy, magical, deep vibe! It's as if that soulful bgm expresses the hidden depth of Dongfang's love for orchid. It'd be better if orchid choses not to hold back anymore.

Exactly my thoughts too! Why not find a way to have both love & power. Already there are tons of Xianxia & wuxia dramas where the hero loses his former glory and becomes a shadow of his old self. Ashes of love is an example. Even though it's a very interesting, beautiful drama, ultimately Xufeng doesn't retain all the power & glory of his past self. But the novel version was better.
But I watched that drama till the end anyway because it was still entertaining even though they altered the original story & made it soapier.

But I don’t want to see Dongfang turn all completely soft & stupid and end up making some choice or taking some decisions (which might harm him) just to show orchid that he loves her unconditionally . I just don’t want Dongfang to lose sight of the big picture or his ultimate objective yet —- at least, till the final few episodes . I don’t want dongfang to give up everything he fought for so easily just like that without any resistance. Only then it’ll be more interesting . Otherwise, it’s no fun to watch. It’ll be like he turned all muddled & foolish all of a sudden.

He’s not even acting like a real antihero like the way it’s in the novel. And I found the naive orchid being unintentionally shrewd to turn Dongfang into the way she wants him to be and expecting that he’ll blindly obey her and do things the way she wants like not attacking fairy realm etc…this is a bit frustrating. The orchid in the novel version is more reasonable. However, because the bgms, osts, and romance -oriented story is so interesting, entertaining, I shall keep watching.

Yes, that's the beauty. Opposites attract kind of vibe in this drama. That's what is most attractive here. Moreover, Dongfang has tons of patience whenever he deals with little orchid. I liked that about the main male lead. That's amazing considering the fact that he is used to others listening patiently to him while he barks orders. It's is easy for others to be kind & patient towards Orchid because she always obeys them but in case of Moon supreme lord, Xiao Lan Hua always resists him, turns disobedient & even schemes against him to save her own skin. Despite this, Dongfang chooses to be patient with her in all the episodes so far. That was so beautiful to watch.
