It's 38 half hour episodes, so it's really 19 (was supposed to be 20.. The plot really is that messy lol). And you can fast forward a lot of the scenes without the leads π€£ lord knows I do so on the regular. Thanks for the convo and happy watching as well! π

Oooo I loved BTIMFL, though the ending made me give it side-eye π her strength and how she broke down his barriers and showed him he was worthy of love was so satisfying to watch. I know what you mean about Run On, I was fast forwarding through it until like ep 6 or something, then it clicked and I restarted it without fast forwarding, and it was such a great watch. The dialogues are super snappy and the relationships are very honest. I generally prefer crying dramas so I don't know that I have good romcom recommendations...but I'll try one.. if you liked Junho here, check out Wok of Love. The plot is a mess but the skinship is to die for. Jung Ryeo Won does giddy without annoying aegyo so well, I found myself rolling on the couch along with her π€£ and the Junho fan service is fantastic - so many shots of him walking away from the camera π€€ there's also a gangster Jang Hyuk who's super tasty. I sort of liked Dae Jang Geum is Watching, too, it's ridiculous but cute, and I have a soft spot for Shin Dong Wook (though I loved him so much more in Soulmate, it's from 2006 and funny as all get out, though the ending will tug at you)

Not me reading lady Hyegyeon's memoirs after watching this drama... π Btw if you haven't watched The Throne, do it. The background on Sado's death is a spectacular addition to this drama. They really produced this story for local audiences, the majority of us have needed (or have now been craving) history lessons to fully appreciate the historical context. Every named character shown was a real historical figure, I think with the exception of the senior court ladies..? Unsure about them. And btw regarding Deok Im's feelings, she did say she loved herself more than him, she's the Joseon Mijoo (if you saw Run On). That was a great self/romantic love story that probably would've looked something similar to TRS if it'd been set 300 yrs in the past lol.

No doubt! The good news is that there are some incontrovertible facts as to what was meant to be conveyed, how the messages are received is a different thing, as communication is a 2-way street. True love experiences vary for everyone, and believe that when external forces are at play as they are here, it can be far from painlessβοΈ
Just realized how hapless The romance it is for ML. FL never wanted to be loved to begin with and equally worst…
She chose to meet him in the afterlife. She was the one that first asked her friends "what if one of us doesn't keep the promise (to meet each other instead)?" She asked court lady Seo to bring her friends instead of San because she had no intention to keep her promise. She promised San to meet again when the flowers bloomed, when everything would be okay (read: when neither would be bound by their places in life anymore). The same way that he gave her the choice to walk away from him, she gave him the choice to go back to his life as a king. They chose each other in the afterlife, the only time they could freely and fully love each other.
During life, you can chalk it up to the heart wants what the heart wants (see: https://twitter.com/aesoonaesoo/status/1481125944702033921?t=xlvD_XiExeUPbY2KQJI-ZQ) and yeah she fought against her feelings because the calculations she was making didn't work in her favor, but like Young Hee taught her, you take the good with the bad, and that's life. I do wish Seyoung had been given more lines to express her thoughts, but watching a second time it was more obvious that she loved him.
A couple of other notes on foreshadowing the ending (that only after death would they be able to fulfill their love for each other):

Thank you!! I really enjoyed the comments ride here while the drama aired π it really lit up our imagination, right? Visually, aurally, emotionally, this drama was a feast best shared with others β€οΈ and I'll be damned, there are so many sharp-eyed folks to help us see and appreciate all the details, I think I mentioned before that it was hard for me to notice much, I watched most of the time through very puffy and teary eyes. π
so deserving of my every second spent watching this, although watching it while it aired was so hard, i can't…
Binging it this past week was a very different experience than watching live, for sure. I'm also very glad to have had the forced breaks to digest every episode while it was airing. It was awesome to watch with friends as soon as subs were up, then rushing to social media to see whatever everyone else thought π (then coming here every day in between to commiserate during the wait!)
The translation is confusing, because the goal of the drama was to end with the novel ending, and it did (I thought?),…
Yeah, I think the same. With 6 disks of extra content (if not more, right? That's still under discussion?) and all the behind/making clips they've already released, you have to wonder if it'll be a lot of removed scenes - here's hoping π€ or perhaps it'd be a re-editing on the 8 disks and the 6 would really all extras haha. So much content π€€
YALL ACCORDING TO THE DIRECTOR, THEY'RE CONSIDERING A DIFFERENT ENDING FOR THE BLURAY.https://twitter.com/230SAVE/status/1481080902675582976?s=20
The translation is confusing, because the goal of the drama was to end with the novel ending, and it did (I thought?), and her disappointment about not following the script for the ending was due to the time compression (as suspected).. So I'm thinking she may have meant the editing of the last two episodes, rather than the final scene... But that's my interpretation. Either way, we'll see later this year π₯²

Watching this drama with my teenaged niece, her running commentary is all about how powerful these women are within the constraints they're forced to live in, how impressive they are. I love that she can look at this and come away with this impression. Her favorite character right now is the queen dowager π₯² meanwhile her old ass aunt (myself) can't stop fangirling over Junho. Faith in humanity = restored.

Ooo lemme copy this over to the discussion thread. It's been very helpful to find old reference posts!
The viki translation is waaaaay better now than it was when watching live. They used to not translate any of the Chinese text they would show on screen, and now it's not only translated, but they added translation notes in many places. They also added t/n to explain names mentioned.
this is the type of drama that when u rewatch it, the meaning of the scenes and lines will be different from how…
I'm on ep 6 of the rewatch, and idk if it's because I cried all my tears the first time (I think I watched most episodes through tears) and in clips and while reading analysis or because I'm pausing constantly to explain to my fascinated niece what she's watching, but this time I'm not crying as much. But the richness of the dialogues and all the foreshadowing is so much more enjoyable
