Your articles are gold for me, because Jang Ok Jung is my favorite historical drama (ex-equo with Empress Ki). I won't resume all here, and you can check the review I writed about it. I would like to watch the 100 episodes drama "Hui Bin", but unfortunaly, there is no translation past episode 20. I wonder if Kim Tae Hee took some inspiration from the main actress in this drama.
In a science fiction movie, the audience expects a more accurate "sufficient credibility". On the other hand, in a spectacular action movie, the audience accepts a more inaccurate "sufficient credibility". What the audience accepts depends on the genre. Here we have both science fiction and spectacular action.
This corresponds exactly to Terminator movies. The drama has the same credibility as this kind of film, with of course some variations. The airplane scene contains more credible elements, and the cabin scene that explodes contains less credible elements. This gives new meaning to the parodic scene inspired by Terminator 2 in episode 2 (the heroine wants the blond boy's clothes). In this way, the drama makes it clear to which genre it belongs, and makes it possible to situate the degree of suspension of disbelief that can be expected.
I don't normally like to comment on other's views but i seriously can't take some of the outright dumb criticisms…
Your intention is good but your arguments are wrong. The character repairing the plane is human and has no super powers. So the action should be humanly possible. However, this is precisely the case in this scene, and the script even takes care to provide a realistic anecdote, "the war pilots were doing the same thing". This sufficient credibility applies to the other actions and triggers in this scene. If we look at airplane scenes of this kind in other films and series, we can see that they are 10 times less realistic. This is the maximum that can be done in a 5-minute scene in a series with a sustained pace. Otherwise, we would need a pseudo-documentary type film that lasts an hour, and without a plot.
A surprisingly good opening for this one. Give or take some of the physics, CGI high jinx the second episode left…
It's bad luck for LUCA, because this drama too as good qualitys, one outstanding action scene (elevator one), innovative in dramaland (inspired by movie The vilainess), interesting thematic, no boring narrative, and wonderful (really!) background music support. I cross fingers as I didnt watch ep 5-6 yet. The fact is Sisyphus get all that too ! And overall, it's better, with more enigmas, top actors, bigger production, script accuracy and density. You feel it's the huge thing you can't miss, while LUCA is more be the very good drama you will watch among others. I won't miss LUCA too, I was hooked.
Just now watched the first two episodes... And this drama reminds me of Circle... It feels similar with the brotherhood…
I'm pretty optimistic. After a great intuitive feeling (rather rare), I started digging, and I noticed that the script is strong on these first two episodes. After investigation, the drama was written from 2016 to 2018. That gives time to rework and refine it afterwards, especially in the final phase in 2020, when the writers signed with JTBC for the drama.
I agree. It was nonsensical that a person would take a video call whilst trying to salvage the plane. Also, I…
I think her acting was very good during the first scene. But it's difficult to feel emotions because it's a quick scene, right from the start. We don't have any context, we didn't lived a long run with the character father/daughter. I'm sure there is no problem for her to make feel emotion when the story is more advanced, like she did in Memories of Alhambra. First scene is kind of "thing it have to be", if they are separated, the character have to cry, even if we don't understand how much it's sad for her.
I think this type of drama needs to be chewed on. Eps 1 and 2 have both really great parts and some very questionable,…
I was hooked right from the start, because it's highest quality I never watched in a drama (directing, action, etc), and it's fun and easy to watch. I like SF and action-movies. I was stunned, without knowing why for many elements. Now I started to look more about how this is written, constructed, etc, I think it's really good in a deeper way. Also, it's full of mysterys, and mysterys are addictive !
Me when I heard the news about Sisyphus: Who is that guy? Isn't he a little bit old for Park Shin Hye?Me after…
Ah ah! Glad you apreciate the actor. I like him too. The character is mostly directive than arrogant, and nice with people. He consider his bodyguard as human being, not just as servant. Of course, he give dry orders but also tickle him sometimes. And he's ready the give him some cars on his death will ! ^^
It's a fine drama. it's better if you watch it without using your brain or something cause there are senseless…
There is something I really like about this drama : - Yeah, it's a drama easy to watch, and we don't need brain for understanding what happens on first level. So everybody can enjoy this, as there is a lot of action and spectacular things. - But hey, it's also a brain intensive drama, when you try to solve mysterys, decipher hidden content, or just analyse how good the scenes are constructed.
I've the feeling they don't want to kill them but rather want to capture them. We don't know yet what are the…
Thanks, you spoted a detail I forgot. So, it make the action scene more believable, because now, we understand this 25 henchmen team don't try to rush the heroin and kill her like terminator would do. Damn, really thank you because, I thinked it like as a flaw, then see, it was not. I should had more confidence and just take the given information as a clue. I need to rewatch the episode, this drama is so dense it's very easy to miss something.
It's strange. First we get top tier action scene with fighting Park Shin Hye but immediataly after that the rooftop…
I've the feeling they don't want to kill them but rather want to capture them. We don't know yet what are the goal of this mysterious organization. For sure, they have great respect for "The" Tae Sul. They want to get something from him, but don't want to hurt him. When Seo Hae said "they want to kill you", I'm not sure she was speaking about this organization, or any other organization like the one of the guy wanting the key. As the story is full of mysterys, it's not possible to say what is on purpose or what could be a script error / wrong directing yet. As I would like to understand the story better, and the story don't disapoint until now, I will choose the "on purpose" way, and look at scene that give lot of details and way to understand what happens. I have no reason to loose confidence about the script quality when everything jump to say it's consistent and very good.
same! I don't get the complaints over the action scenes those are the most exciting parts of the drama for me...
About comments on how is unrealistic the plane cockipt scene, I think it's mostly very spectacular, but the script provide some way to give a realistic explanation or show the scene in a convincing way. (I don't nitpick about CGI or things related to budget). The script was precise about that : - ML hightech first aid kit. Instead of hero coming hand in the pockets and performing miraculous things without a tool that could really do it. - Reference about war pilots doing the same. (cokpit hole) - Copilot passed out because lack of oxigen. - Oxigen masks used during the scene. - Quick explanation about what he try to do to fix the electronic device. I think all the script could do for making the scene more believable was done, and in any action-movie you never get something so detailed.
OH MY GODDDDD!!!!That action sequence scene in the second episode!!!! I'm so hyped right now...
Good thing some other people noticed it. Not only it's new in kdrama, but also, it's inspired by the most inovative korean action-movie from recent years. As an action-movie addict, it jumped to me. It's the best of the best about fighting scene directing on TV, only way to get better is to put Lee Jung Ki in the sequence because he's great at martial art. PSH nethertheless worked hard and is convincing. Plus you heard the breathes, natural fight screams, etc.
Only during the whole action scene (on the roof), there some slowdown I don't like, during transition sequences. As a result you get the impression the opponents wait too long before to start next battle, or you don't know what they want to do, shoot them all ? Want to capture them ? I don't know if it's a script problem or if it's on purpose, or I missed something. For now we don't know the objectives of this organization. Look like they don't want to hurt ML. I even don't know when FL said "they want to kill you", she was speaking about these guys. We already saw there is some other parts involved during episode 2 (the guy who want the key).
really? does this look like the villianess to you? it was so crude and cringey
Same way to shoot. A bit less good of course (bus scene in Vilainess use additional stunts too difficult and expensive to do in a drama), but something I never saw in any series. You get a scene like that into LUCA too. Episode 2, elevator scene. It 's also Sequence shoot full lengh. This kind of thing is always sensationnal in actions movies. And Vilainess style it's even more surprising, about camera movements.
The Vilainess like action scene with full sequence shot (appartement fight), no cut stunts (chase on the roof), terminator 2 strip parody scene, dense and complex plot with lot of correlations, very good actors and relationships. This drama is awesome. I didn't watched something as good since a long time (let's say Memories of Alhambra, that still a very different style of SF, more enigmatic).
Good question! Thank, it make me thinking. I found something. What I remember, she only try to contact Taeseul…
Ok, let's resume : maybe the brother try a time travel and set a destination, he want coming where is his brother. Accidentaly, his brother (ML) is in a plane. Bad luck, so the brother appear in the sky, near the plane. Then we see he drop his suitcase. Once he is separated from his suitcase, this device is too far for him to keep in this time (As I already suppose the time travel work like this: you always need to be near your suitcase because you can stay in another time, as long as the energy device of your suitcase is On, it's why FL sizzle in the restaurant, as there was a short energy interference, she briefly half changed of time). So the brother change time and go back when he was before traveling. Here, it look like he traveled from to past toward the future. So he come back in the past, and in the sky. He fall from high altitude and die, his body is damaged. In this past, the ML see the body. This theory might not work if the time device cant be used to set a geographical destination. Ive no idea.

Here I spot qualitys of the show, and also some flaw (hey nobody can be perfect).
