Every western concept are added into it . More body FL , Virgin ML . Polygamy , sex fantasy . Why can't Kdrama…
If I wanted western stuff, I'd watch western series.
It's low standard for a kdrama.
Anyway, it's fun to read comments, this drama seems to be worst and worst.

I am writing this review with anger and based on the fact that this series was so overrated. the plot is so messy…
Yeah, this drama is terrible. I banned the writer, and will never watch something with "playlist" or "playbook" in the title again.

FYI a lot of people not continue to watch bcs fl no longer in s2
We see Go Youn Jung during first episode, so it's quite normal she's FL of season 2.
Two seasons are different. I liked Jung So Min in first one, but I find Go Youn Jung was better for season 2. At least, I'm in the part of people who was happy with that.

I agree, only on ep 4 and enjoying it so much.
I love the comedy in this drama, sometime black comedy. In ep4, I don't remember well the details, but he need to make contact or seduce Jae In. Scenes are hilarious.

This drama is wonderful. Almost perfect storytelling. With a goosebump of historical destiny.
It's high on emotions, conflicts, and great love story.

It's adaptation from a novel, and this additional step helps a lot. Deep motivations and historical context could be used. Instead to just show an evil character, like in previous series or movies, we get a larger picture, about how she's also the toy of political forces. What makes her the protagonist in this story.

The "femme fatale" thematic is used a lot in historical dramas, often fictional characters, and it's like coming back to the root, with real historical events, so surprising that it's not always easy to spare what was real and what was novelised a bit.

It's my 4th watch, and I'm still discovering details I didn't spot before.

It's healthy to find comments like your, because I think this drama is "meh".
You are right, there are lot of good lines, but yes, the script isn't great as generality. I can just repeat myself, but a lot of the good work the writer did was wasted by the director/editor, with the awful sound-effects, and about how to direct actors, making them acting over-the-top in a "funny" really not funny way.

I repeat myself again, but the writer wanted to be uselessly edgy with bad sexy jokes, western series like, when it turned mostly in vulgarity and bad situations, like the ones someone dumb and drunk would yells in a bar, so everybody hear, but it creates just a feeling of shame.

you basically described most Kdrama FL's.but yeah, this FL is disgusting, not because she shagged lots of men…
It's a very private question. I think it's better to not talk about that with a woman. Past is past, and somehow buried, once you meet someone new. When it happens, I think it's quite clear it's not a serious relationship. So, maybe you can get some informations about women in this case. πŸ˜‰

Never seen any women fighting patriarchy to get into front lines of war, like Ukraine or construction or plumbing…
Each time someone use the word "patriarchy" I find that cringe and an outdated post feminist rant, typical of western decrepititude. Lot of boring dramas were done with that recently. However I still like older dramas with strong female leads climbing with difficulty their path in a hard world dominated by men. Just it was less clichΓ©, and done more seriously about the context. Good storytelling is at stake, and the same thematic can be told brilliantly, or be cheap and boring propaganda.

I watched a lot of dramas with ML jerks, but have to admit they didn't act like the FL here. I find her unlikeable, in a way I can't trust the romance. Yet, I watched other dramas with FL jerks, unlikeable but in a way I still like hers and trust romance.

I trust you, but I'm a bit worried because it's not a really good one.

Special mention about the paintball game: it was well directed and put us into action by camera moves, subjective views, and camera placement behind obstacles.

it's really meh I want to like it more but too many Ahole characters. Too much infidelity being glossed over stupid…
Hey, an idea. I often talk about importance to have great scenes. I'm thinking a drama should be: any scene you read at random should be enough good so you want to read what's coming next. Even when you don't know the whole story!
Try this experience: read just the TWO first scenes of season 2:
https://w4worlds.fr/html/W_Saison2_Script01_US.html
It's not even two minutes screentime.
You don't need to read more, just with that, tell me your feeling.

Don't trigger me to speak about W or we are here all night long. I hope you have enough beers in the fridge. I should drink a glass of whiskey. πŸ˜…

If the drama didn't strike you like "woo! pure genius", then it's maybe not for you. Ofc, I rewatched tons of times, and even could study the screenplay because the writer published it. It's a resource with a value you can't set a price. Maybe I could write western screneplay but for sure couldn't write korean screenplay without that.

But after years writing a season 2, I took distance with W, as if the new story was now the main thing. When you spend thousand of hours in writing, it's now your own, and so much happens after season 1.

FL been unattractive... It's actress Han Hyo Joo... and... yes... I don't find her really beautiful. Ok, she's a great actress, but not my type about beauty. She's still pretty sometimes, depending of angle of the camera. And the romance story wasn't the greatest point of the drama. I mean, if I want a true love story, I watch "Love story in Harvard" with Kim Tae-Hee, focusing mostly on the love story (not a romance, but deep love).

In a kdrama there is a problem of screentime. You need time for every point. And the drama is so much busy with plot-twists and mind-blowing content, that it's a miracle that the romance still stand enough.

You can notice in people comments "why Do-yoon and So-hee secondary characters are not more developped?". It's obvious: screentime. For an high-paced story, the writer needed to focus on main characters and situations. It's written like a movie, not a kdrama. There is only one useless scene in the whole drama, due to scenes deleted from the screenplay, for screentime reasons, because the whole situation made sens in the screenplay, but too long to tell in the drama.

it might be interesting for you to rewatch in terms of what the story is because to me it's just simple tropey…
I can't comment more a lot because I don't remember a lot of details. I watched this drama in holidays with many others dramas. My first watch was "it's ok", but other dramas I watched were better.
Then... I had like an argument with the writer. I disliked every drama she did after, and was bitter they were overated... until I watch her last one "the Glory" and it was damn good. I also watched older dramas from her like "On air" and it was probably the best drama about people making drama, speaking about the drama industry. There is a silly screenwriter in the story, and I thought immediatly: "hey, it's her, she put herself in the story! ahah, she's not afraid to tell how silly she's, I love that!". πŸ˜‚

I can just testify about consequences in a story. We can think that not taking care of consequences is easy writing, but what I think it's not only the wrong way, but also a more difficult one somehow. When you set causes and situations, it becomes a gold mine.

Check that if you have time:
https://nathanbweller.com/creators-of-south-park-storytelling-advice-but-therefore-rule/
The hard way is just to say "what happens next". And it doesn't produce consequences and logic. The easy and right way is to take seriously the situation. It's magic because you can ask: now there are consequences, which ones? Just take care of that, and:
- it's more easy, as the story write itself.
- It's also a bit difficult because now it needs to dig in the situation, takes many decisions and think a lot.

And by the way, as in story structure, you also do reverse time (I do that a lot), I can also start with a future situation and ask "what was needed before to go now". In intense mystery and suspens story, it's needed to use both linear and reverse time during planification.

I'm still very cool with writers and don't blame them too much when they forget something, because ahh, I forget also or it didn't come to my mind I needed to take care of something, there are thousand of things to think about at the same time. Yeah, if you write a bit, you will be really more cool and less angry about a lot of the mess you see in kdramas! πŸ˜„

I know it's counter intuitive. You'd think people writing or doing storytelling should be more critical and harsh about the mess we get in many kdramas. But at least for me, the opposite happened. Kdrama is a story with a closure, so it's like a giant 16 hours movie. And doing the structure of something like that is really difficult. And the terrible thing: if you made a mistake during this phase, it will be really hard to change after. I've the luxury to have time to rewrite, but I think professional korean screenwriters are often in a hurry.

It helps me to understand why it's often bad.
In Korea too it's often same places. It's a problem of budget and setting access. About the director: why I said that, because SWNS was a bad drama and the director did the same OTT bad comedy and annoying sound effects. Writing was bad too, with same strategy than NGNL, accumulating secondary characters.

Well, I always check what did writers because I think it's the most important, but I should had checked director too on this one. But most of people are happy with that here. Hey, I'll just quit the thread because I've stopped watching. πŸ˜‰
