Likeable supporting characters are making this drama more intriguing for me. Wang zhao, yang duojie, deputy Commander fu he,physician xiao...these subtle Heroes of the story...In time of chaotic mess and power struggles of the palace, the rays of hope that some people still exist to fight for the good & righteousness.

As someone very interested in history , It's unavoidable for me to connect the real events & characters of history with the drama adaptations. i don’t blindly believe all historical records either, the resources were also limited for this drama so It just kept the basic framework of events and fictionalized 80% of the rest.But it really doesn’t matter much as long as It's well made which in fact it is indeed. In recent years, i have certainly not watched or seen another well made Historical Epic on same level as this one,the genre itself is even hard to find lately.
But i personally have little disappointments with at least 2 or 3 characterizations that i wish would be represented in slightly different manners. In some story arcs, i wished the writer made different choices.I had some expectations of portrayals that wasn’t fulfilled. But All these are my very personal dilemmas, this drama remains a quality work despite everything.
Ep 37 Chai Rong, Zhao kuangyin & Qian hongchu's meet up after a decade & the whole conversation of the three over food is one of my favourite scenes of the drama. How wise & Farsighted Guo Rong was as a ruler & How i wish he lived longer! The scene seemed so powerful to me, felt like It's where the seed of the peace has been planted, which was achieved much later after another two decades.
Historically, This Cao Bin is very interesting to read. He was a nephew-in-law of Guo wei. The maternal aunt of his, who was married to Guo wei was killed by Liu Chengyou in Guo family massacre. He was a successful & Competent Military Commander, known for "taking careful measures to prevent unnecessary killing". His granddaughter was Empress Cao, married to Zhao kuangyi's Grandson, Emperor Renzong of Song Dynasty. Both Emperor Renzong & Empress Cao were competent Rulers of the dynasty, i think there is a drama about them which i wanted to watch a long time ago but didn’t eventually, now i want to watch it again. probably after i finish this one.
These whole last scene sequences of filming, Cheng Yi's costume,the palace setting, this sunny day,thousands of fans waiting to see him, him waving and taking pics with the crowd...All these videos have my heart ♥️
