Her husband was Crown Prince Hyomeong who died before he become the King. Her son become 24th King of Joseon, Heonjong. Heonjong become the King at the age of 7, with no control and power until he was poisoned and murdered by GQD and Kim Clan.
Of course, she holds anger over her son death. Kim Clan and Jo Clan are swon enemies. Later she lost her mind joining hands with Kim Clan which is supposed to be her enemy.

His father was third prince of 22nd King of Joseon. His father has never become the King. His whole family including his father and his brothers, potential King candidates were framed and murdered for treason by Kim Clan. He survived and grew up as a commoner in an island. Later, after 24th King died, Kim Clan needs another King candidate who they could use him as a puppet king. And, kim clan found him and GQD adopted and made him as the puppet King becase of his dumbness (he is faking it). He become 25th King of Joseon, Cheoljong.

As far as I know, it was originally planned for 20-episode even before it started airing. Many people doubt it how they make a normal prime time drama with 20 episodes these days. Mr Queen did achieve it. After it gets super popular, they just add a spin-off episodes with Bamboo Forest.
