maybe we should really watch instead of finding faults, i understand there seems to be editing issues of the sort but as i go along, i realise that they might not be bugs but the directors are intentionally leaving out details for us to deduce ourselves (e.g., he yan kicking the branches, xiao jue not fixing the blankets etc.) for arranging such minimal details meticulously, i doubt that they didn't see the obvious supposed plot holes we as viewers have been seeing

as someone who lurks in chinese platforms, i can confirm. such criticisms were much even harsher before the airing, you can even go back on the comments on the official drama page as some directly post their criticism there it's sad. these days, such remarks are somewhat dying down as both lead's fans protect the drama as much as possible.

maybe we do see this disguise differently as asians as i would not consider cheng lei as a pretty man, his facial features are too sharp and not that delicate. i consider his face the actual manly type.

good point. since this issue is only being brought up among international viewers, i was also thinking of racial differences. i'm asian and it would be a serious misconduct for a woman to be as casual as he yan to men in our old times. you see song tao tao? if he yan acted like that, then she is really acting girly. besides, pretty men is really common, you can find several characters with that description in asian novels set in the historical era.
