Just started. Excited to watch a period drama with lots of attractive people, and so far the side characters are interesting and I want to learn more about them. The only thing really bothering me is the poor writing. The FL ways of avoiding getting caught/seen is cringy and dumb. If she was dressing up as a boy for the military, I would've hoped she would be more prepared for such scenarios with clever ways to not get caught. For now, her character is the weakest link for me which is a shame since I adore the actress and think she makes a very good looking boy (albeit tiny).
What?? I seriously loved this actor!! He shined through even on very small supporting roles! :( I hope this is…
Unfortunately, it isn't a rumor since he issued an apology then his Weibo account was removed and banned. Shame since he definitely has played some very memorable characters.
This drama has very low chances of being released because one of the cast (Zhao Li Xin) posted controversial, seemingly pro-Japanese imperialism remarks. I think he has been pretty much blacklisted from the industry. The only way this drama can get released is with extensive editing since I hear he had a pretty significant role. I'm holding onto my tiny, very minuscule bit of hope...I wish Jing Boran did more dramas.
Made it to episode 19, but it's just okay so far. I think the high expectations I had coming in is hindering me from enjoying the drama. I will continue though in hopes that I can get sucked into the story since it is almost always recommended as a must watch cdrama.
The cast for this show is very solid with a lot of my favorites. I kind of wish I started this after more episodes had aired, but so far, I am intrigued about the characters.
Had zero expectations going in, but found this most entertaining of the new dramas for me. I love period and historical dramas, so I am very excited for the past lives and reincarnation parts. I hope they weave it in well.
One of the best of its kind. Absolutely a joy to watch. Highly recommended for those who love period romcoms and fusion sageuks. Would love a season 2, but the drama is quite perfect without one.
She was in Item in 2019 which is a modern day drama. Not sure what interview you are referring to or what the wording was, but that was the drama where she said it had been 4 years since she did a modern one. She did other modern ones as well (just took a look at her filmography).
In the beginning, I thought it would be fun and it was until about midpoint. I put on hold, and followed along reading and watching clips.
Definitely one of the worst dramas ever. It ended up not even being a fun type of trash, which is what I had hoped this would be. This is a drama where I think death for all would've been fine because they were all terrible characters anyways. What a waste of chemistry and looks - they're usually mediocre actors, but when given proper direction, they are fine.
Jang Ki Yong did well in Come and Hug Me. Go watch that instead because that is actually a good one especially if you are a JKY fan.
I started watching this and....so far 20 min in and one of the worst movies I have ever watched. The main leads…
I think the second half is more watchable because there is more action. As the backstory is revealed (albeit still in very choppy ways), the leads develop chemistry-ish. I think I was able to convince myself through sheer willpower and the pretty. CG is okay since I've seen worse. Everything is very bright colored and fairy tale-esque. I may have seen some of the worst costumes and makeup ever in a production in this movie though lol Oh, and wtf was the ending? Was there supposed to be a second movie?
Overall, consider watching if you are fan of the leads (not a must) and may be curious about the drama. Bonus: great kiss scenes. If anything, this movie has got me interested in trying out the drama. (I know Mark Chao is a great actor, but looks wise I prefer Yang Yang.)
I started watching this and....so far 20 min in and one of the worst movies I have ever watched. The main leads…
50 min through. I see that there are a bunch of things they are trying to cover. It is done very poorly...the writing and editing is terrible. I can't connect with the characters, and def don't feel any attraction between the leads. I am curious about how this will end, so will continue. It is taking me a while to get through it though.
I started watching this and....so far 20 min in and one of the worst movies I have ever watched. The main leads are pretty but wooden acting. Most of all, the costumes and makeup are ugly (what did they do to Luo Jin). Also, the story is so choppy and very jumpy. I am just confused right now, but will finish. Hope it improves... (I have never watched the drama and know nothing about the original story)
I had no expectations coming into this drama except the female lead is supposedly kick ass and the ending is terrible,…
Finished epi 31 (thank you to APrincessofMars for edits up to 20), this drama is currently my favorite to watch!
Zhao Yao is still a badass. Zhi Yan pissed me off recently, but overall, I adore her as well. Li Chen Lan is definitely one of the best (softest) male leads. Also, new fun character alert - Lu Shi Qi!
I don't care for majority of the side stories. This definitely suffers from the cdrama trope of everyone has a love story (and I don't really care). Also, can majority of the Immortals just perish please? We don't need all of them around abusing their power while they pretend to be the "good side". However, everything with the main leads continues to work for me. (Rating - 6 ; just the mains - 7.5 lol)
I haven't watched much chinese historical dramas.. Only Untamed.. Shd I give this a try.. I mean it won't be difficult…
NIF was my first Chinese historical drama, and I was able to follow along. The beginning can feel a bit confusing because of the unfamiliar names, but it doesn't take away from following the story. If anything, I ended up looking for blog posts because I wanted more and read discussions threads lol I can never have too much NIF :)
For me personally, the only downside is it will be hard to top this drama. I feel cdramas tend to have draggy middle parts with unnecessary extras. Now, I've adjusted my expectations and watch with the ff button lol NIF does not suffer from that - something is always happening, so try not to miss anything. I truly hope you enjoy it! Let me know how you like it if you do start watching.
I had no expectations coming into this drama except the female lead is supposedly kick ass and the ending is terrible, but I'm enjoying it so far (up to 15). And yes, Zhao Yao is an awesome female lead - gorgeous and strong. She does good things, but can also be an ass lol The drama is fast-paced so far, so I'm scared it will fall into the trap of many other cdramas, which is focusing on everything but the main story.
I love Zhao Yao and Zhi Yan. Xiao Yan is doing a great job playing two roles. The main leads (all three) have great chemistry. I love how the main couple meet (who wouldn't fall in love with Zhao Yao?). Also, I adore when male leads are utterly smitten with the female lead. Honestly, I would not have minded spending more time with Zhao Yao (pre-Demoness) and Mo Qing. Actually, a full drama focused on Zhao Yao's rise to power would have been ideal lol
However, the Gold Immortal related stuff really bores me. I strongly dislike most of the immortals, and I don't care what happens to them. I have started skipping most Immortal Realm scenes. The drama definitely needs to work on everything else outside of the main couple lol

My initial response above was so long I put in spoiler tag, but there are NO SPOILERS in it.
In summary, I think everyone should watch NIF ESPECIALLY if you're interested in historical dramas. I suggest everyone watch to at least episode 20 (fantastic episode). Also, there are some great character charts on blogs and tumblr to enhance your viewing. However, if you are not in the mood for something heavier and detailed as you must be focused when watching, I say save this for another time.

NIF is one of the best historical dramas I have ever seen, and overall one of the best dramas in general. I've watched some episodes of The Untamed a while back (up to 15), which is fast paced and very much fantasy with lots of magical fighting. I think the acting is green, and the CG/fantasy does take some time to get used to. However, there is a lot of pretty, and the story is interesting. Starting the drama off with those major events definitely makes me want to know what happened. I like majority of the characters, too. I will definitely get back to it soon.
Now, Nirvana in Fire. First of all, I will start off with yes, there are amazing brotherhood/bromances and relationships in general. Characters are very much willing to put their lives on the line for each other. Overall, NIF is a historical political and revenge drama with very few mystical elements. The acting is top notch. It starts off at a slower pace because the set up is so so essential, but it never feels draggy. NIF knows that it needs to spend that time on developing characters, their dynamics/relationships, setting up the atmosphere and time period. Everything done feels deliberate. I can feel myself at the edge of my seat just waiting for things to unravel. It also has some interesting storytelling methods - they have scenes with no dialogue or just reactions to an event, and that's enough to show what happened. It is so rare for me to remember and love/like just about every character, but I even remember characters who only appeared for like 1-2 episodes. (This drama was even better for me during my rewatch.)
One of The Untamed weak points is that the evil villains (Wen Clan) feel cartoony. Their appearance and characterizations just scream 'Look at me I'm the evil one!.' The "villains" in NIF are much more complex. They may not make good choices, but their motivations are well explained. I actually like Prince Yu as a character. Same with the protagonists - not everything they do for justice is moral or good. I just love that I can understand WHY characters act a certain way, and they stay consistent to who they are.
Dropped 9
Have a bunch on hold lol

Apologies...my response got too long.
