Title My Demon
Totally unrelated, but I love your profile picture of Cho Seung-woo. Is it from Stranger?
OMG YES! I TOTALLY AGREE WITH EVERYTHING! Sorry for the caps haha, the random insertion of the gang was ridiculous to me too, as you said, they contributed nothing to the plot, I skipped most of their scenes honestly, they were downright annoying. And Gu Won's outfits in the second half were borderline laughable tbh., they should have continued giving him black combos instead of the things he was wearing, I see people on instagram coming up with better black, grey, white and etc. combos than the stylists for this show. Having watched Sweet Home, I know it for a fact that Song Kang could definitely pull a more mature version of Gu Won if he was given the chance. I honestly imagine Gu Won leading a downright debauched life, brushing shoulders with sketchy people from the human underworld, where he would ultimately find his so called "victims" instead of the version they went with. He's a demon for God's sake, he's supposed to be elusive, dangerous, scary, seductive, vengeful, he should torture people in the worst ways imaginable- that's kind of what I would expect from a creature like him. The only time I ever found him intimidating was when he yelled at that woman's face something along the line of "What do you people think a demon is?" I don't remember his words correctly, it sent a genuine shiver down my spine and I wished he was more like that in the first few episodes which would definitely introduce his character better, instead of how he originally is. His tragic backstory should've only contributed to him choosing to be a libertine in order to forget all that immense pain, instead of the doleful theatre owner who goes shopping, eats cakes, drinks coffee and watches funny little plays when he's not busy with contracts. It doesn't match the fervor, the anger and despair he exhibited in the Joseon Era arc, he killed more or less 10 people at the same time, who's to say he's not gonna do it again out of spite? But again, it's the creative choice the author went with, she chose a tamer version of everything, despite the fact I can't really see a topic like this be presented in such a way, but then that's just me.

Absolutely, every has the right to like something that other's don't. It's pointless to make fun of them.

Yeah, also a favorite of mine, totally forgot about it, it's been at least two years since I watched it. It left quite an impression though, I loved every second of it. The crowned clown I believe, is another drama of Yeo Jin Goo's that I really liked.

And to answer your question about the kind of dramas I've liked, except Stranger obviously, some of my past favorites were Strangers from hell, Children of nobody, Bad and Crazy, recently I've been feeling more inclined towards Chinese dramas, so I absolutely loved Story of Kunning Palace.

Mature and serious in a way that wouldn't require adding unnecessary comedy and filler scenes where they shouldn't be and mature and serious especially in the way that Gu Won's character is structured as well (here I don't obviously mean surplus of nudity and sexual intercourse), he's a demon yet he seems harmless in a way which I think has a lot to do with the tame approach they chose to show and we spoke about with other commenters before. The whole tone of the drama seems just so inconsistent to me.

He's one of my favorite actors too haha. And I agree with you on that, I also don't tend to watch dramas that are overhyped, but I've been in a slump when it comes to recent kdramas, I can't seem to find one that I like enough as to finish it, combined with the constant reels instagram has been feeding me with of these two and gifs on tumblr, I just had to see for myself haha what all the fuss was about. I liked the first half more than the second, but I stand behind my opinion that it should have been a little more mature.

Yes, as seen from that perspective it makes sense.

Part of that is translation issues.... the word μ•…λ§ˆ (agma/akma.... which they are pronouncing as "angma" in…
Yeah, she was just dropping by to say some enigmatic things that confused both me as a viewer and Gu Won haha. All joke's aside, since I am a Christian myself I tried to understand Gu Won's character from my own religious perspective, which is why the whole devil/demon part confused me. But it's obvious the author took some creative liberties and mixed Christian elements with her own lore which, as Stacy23 stated, makes Gu Won a fallen angel or a version of the devil.

Yeah well, the author took some creative liberties with that I guess. I just found it confusing since the story uses so many Christian elements, so I thought his character was solely based on what demons are perceived by Christians, that's why I found it confusing tbh.

I don't know why, but the whole execution reminds me of a teen novel adaptation from the 2010s (Fallen, The Mortal Instruments and etc.)- short on everything but chemistry between the main actors. The whole demon part of the story's really toned down and to me Gu Won seems to have some kind of an identity crisis really. He calls himself a demon, then then the devil, he often claims that God's his boss, God herself says that she sent him there among humans because she needed a "worker", which to me heavily implies that he's an angel..? Am I the only one who couldn't quite understand that part? I would so watch a standalone drama following only the Joseon part, instead of the story we got, it was a hundred times more interesting and darker than the main story itself, which given the heavy topics it dealt with, should have been a great deal more serious, mature and graphic. But the chemistry is sizzling and it's the only thing that saved this mess for me.

I’m not finished because it got so boring and random with no signs of the main character in sight, obviously…
I totally agree with you. So far, I've tried to watch it twice since I genuinely liked the first season, it felt a little fresh and innovative to me, at least the approach more than the concept itself (I feel like they're too many movies, TV shows and etc. portraying the same topic and the fact that we, as humanity, were literally battling a virus around that time as well, made me want to ignore season one at first, but I decided to watch it anyway since I literally had nothing to watch and I'm glad I did, since as I previously mentioned, I genuinely liked it), but season two feels like an entirely different show and I find myself skipping most of the scenes just to get through the episode. Every episode seems weirdly jumbled up and plainly boring to me and yes, the excessive nudity feels a little perverse to me as well. I know that stripping Hyun Soo and splattering blood all over him, then literally spraying him with cold water was meant to dehumanise him even more, but I genuinely felt so uncomfortable during that scene, I can't even explain why ( I'm guessing such emotions were intended to be evoked by such a scene). All in all, I might get back to it when the 3rd season comes out, just so I can make better sense of the story.

I have seen too many dramas of this genre to expect a different ending. I would say the ending is very realistic,…
The execution was wonderful, I don't normally watch a lot of wuxia dramas so I can't speak truthfully about correctness, but I'm basing my opinions mainly on the feelings I got while watching this drama. I loved every second of it up to episode nine and I saw some spoilers ahead which I also liked, making this drama as a true highlight of my year. And I cried since ep. 1, but Yuan Lu literally shattered my heart to pieces, I also watched Shisan die after being blinding by that explosion and some snippets of the last episode, but just had to stop halfway because I felt overstimulated already and I couldn't take it anymore. I love a TV show that successfully manages to make me care for all the characters individually and this one did just that, albeit maybe a little too much since I feel rather empty because of that ridiculous ending.

Title A Journey to Love Spoiler
Everyone died and in the end we don’t even know who survived
Yes the ending was truly puzzling to say the least. They could've done better, at least explanation wise, not just leave it all to guesswork, the characters deserved that much.

I am genuinely so depressed after that ending. I have been putting this drama off for quite some time now while waiting for new eps. (I did watch some spoilers here and there because I just can't seem to wait) and seeing the last six episodes (especially yuan lu's end, not to mention shisan AGH I CAN'T) made me so depressed to the point that I just don't want to continue watching this drama anymore, despite the fact I love the execution of the story so much. I can't cry anymore. In the wise words of Nick Jonas: "I came out to have a good time and I'm honestly feeling so attacked right now" πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

dude my thoughts exactly. jiyong is literally just killing random people this reporter sends to him. regardless…
Yes, indeed. The reporter definitely has some kind of unresolved issues which are the reason behind her frantic behavior. At first I thought she was just doing it for the views, but she continued with her actions even after her resignation, which could also signify that she'd do anything for fame, but at the same time it could mean she has some kind of traumatic experience that pushes her towards the need for vigilantism. I mean it was her who kind of pushed Ji Yong to continue being a vigilante anyway.

Title Vigilante
So, I'm still at ep. 5 and what bothers me is how Ji Yong chose the criminals he was going to punish. Like, he didn't have some kind of a list comprised of criminals that he personally believed to be deserving of his punishment, instead, he consciously took the reporter's bait by choosing what she wanted him to choose. The worst thing is, he was perfectly aware of doing that throughout the entire time and he didn't even try to stop himself, he just went on playing her game, leading me to believe that maybe he just enjoyed hurting criminals and didn't really care whether he handpicked them or someone else did it for him as long as he could hurt them, which is not entirely evident from his behavior during and after the deed is done. So I'd have to agree with some of the commenters on different platforms that he could be suffering from some sort of mental disruptions, given his own traumatic experience. I don't know how else to explain it. When it comes to whether or not he should have been wearing a mask, I personally love the fact that he wasn't wearing a mask because most of the time, even the criminals that he didn't kill had severe trauma to their heads so they clearly weren't able to remember him, making him a face in the sea of many. All in all, I love it so far and I doubt I'll change my mind after finishing it.
