Sam, I went ahead and watched episode 2, and I’m glad I did. I’m now on episode 6 and really enjoying it so far. Never judge a book by its cover—or in my case, a show by its first episode.
I just started this drama and I’m only on episode 1. I like the banter between Ko Gyeom and Kim Mubi, but the ending felt strange. The sudden kiss didn’t make sense to me—I wanted more development and connection before jumping to that moment. Even Ko Gyeom looked startled. It honestly turned me off, and now I’m not sure if I should continue to episode 2. I like both the ML and FL, but I’m unsure whether the story or chemistry is really there. Any thoughts?
I’m a big fan of Jung So‑min, and I like the male lead as well. But this was rough. The writing felt like a fifth‑grade level, the acting was bland, and the chemistry just wasn’t there. It felt like I was watching an unconvincing, poorly written show. I didn’t feel the chemistry that I know both leads are capable of delivering.
I really like Jung and all her previous work, which is why I’m not sure why her personality and the little mannerisms I adore never came through in this drama. This felt like a cookie‑cutter show with no depth and weak dialogue. I wish I could rate it higher, but 7.9 is honestly the best it deserves. If it had been any other actress, I wouldn’t have finished it. I practically had to dumb myself down to get through it.
Still I love Jung as an actress, and I wish her much success with her next role.
Oh, I love this drama! I don't think I’ve ever come across another show with the same feel, setting, and storyline. Twenty-Five Twenty-One (2521) was close, but not quite the same. Anyway, I'm just sitting here reminiscing and wondering if I’ll ever get to watch another one like it. Please feel free to give me some recommendations.
This was really good - It could have been one of the best but fell short because of the last 2 episodes. Too many unanswered questions for me. Still I love it, but man they miss a super hit.
The acting was commendable, and the episodes were captivating and engaging. Both leads delivered exceptional performances, but I couldn’t quite sense the romantic chemistry between them. It felt more like a mentor-mentee relationship.
The ending left me unsatisfied. The explanation for his absence for three years lacked substance and failed to make much sense.
Furthermore, the portrayal of the female lead at the end was problematic. She came across as overly needy and forgiving. She consistently went above and beyond, seeking to understand, which made me feel like she desired more than the male lead.
Despite these shortcomings, I still thoroughly enjoyed the show and highly recommend it.
I waited for months to watch this one and it did not disappoint.
A masterclass in story telling, riveting, emotional with peaks and valley all throughout. It is certainly mirrors life, and the emotional, sacrifice, decisions that we all faces in our lifetime. Beyond excellent- I highly recommend.
I agree with you 100% it is one of the most beautiful dramas ever can you please recommend me similar romance…
I don't think I've ever seen a drama quite like Encounter, where the male lead is so deeply devoted and in love. Similarly, the female lead's stoic beauty, kindness, and loving nature are unparalleled.
The contrast between her courage, strength, and disillusionment creates a unique and compelling character. If you've come across anything remotely similar, please let me know!
Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder; I am surprised this show is rated only at 8.1! For me, Encounter is more than just beautiful; it's exquisite. It now ranks as one of the best romantic dramas I've seen in a long, long time. Although slightly idealistic, the storyline is well-written and developed, wonderfully executed by two outstanding leads.
For those who love to dream, Encounter is a highly underrated, beautiful, and charming romance drama. The cinematography, writing, execution, chemistry between the leads, and heartfelt storyline make it truly stand out. I am on episode 15, with just one more to go, and I can easily rate this show at 9.5+.
Simply amazing. I hesitated for so long to watch this drama after seeing snippets of the first episode. I did not think it was my type of Drama. Boy, was I wrong!! This is now in my Top 3 favorite ( Probably number 1 as it stands today) K Dramas.
A Nostalgic, remarkable story that touches every facet of life. Exemplary writing, great character development, sublime acting and a masterclass in story telling truly makes Reply 1988 one of a kind.
Chemistry between the leads here is FABULOUS, this is definitely a "you" thing. You might not be in the right…
Oh thanks for pointing that out- I guess I need to check my headspace before watching this drama? Is it possible that we may have a different view/definition of chemistry?
I just got done watching this show. It is a fantastic Drama.
I was hesitant to dive in as it did not seem like my type of my show, it seems geared toward a younger audience. Welp, I was wrong, while the story does indeed focus on the younger adult years there are valuable life lessons that we can all relate to.
It is really well done.. Great acting jobs by all. I especially love the ending, although there were some parts left to the imagination, and how they tied everything.
I feel like there could be a season 2. Anyone aware of an impending season 2?
