I don't watch a lot of C-historicals (or chinese in general) but thank you so much for this article. I've always…
I'm glad you do not struggle with dubbing! But, c-dramas will always be dubbed even if it's their own voices. If it is the actor's own voices dubbing their own voices is what you mean, here's a list I found in MDL: https://kisskh.at/list/732BPqw3 Thank you for reading!
Not just different voice actors for the same actor in different dramas, also the same voice actor for different…
I half agree with you and half not as sometimes I really do think voice actors do an excellent job in trying to catch the actors expressions to match the energy. But I understand your way of seeing it because that was me once upon a time. Thank you for reading and sharing your opinions !
In the first few Chinese dramas I watched the dubbing was jarring to me. Now I usually don’t notice it unless…
Yes. I actually like hearing actors speak in their own voice too! And I also love every effort actors do to learn another dialect/slang. But it is China we are talking about so I think this is the best they can do. I just learn to appreciate it as sometimes, the storyline is interesting and I do not want to missed it just because it is voice-dubbed (unless it is very badly done) Thank you for reading !
interesting article! i, however, strongly dislike the dubbing culture going on in chinese dramas. it can also…
Yes, although I appreciate voice dubbing but that does not include the ones that are badly done. I would eventually drop it too. I actually find that modern C-dramas tend to have more problems when it comes to production. So, I only watch ancient/historical dramas :) Thank you for reading!
I had no idea about voice dubbing till very later when i was into series, i was shocked to know the untamed was…
The Untamed did a very good job ! Because the voice portrays the characters well and showed a lot of their personalities. I noticed right away C-dramas are heavily-dubbed and was once because of this reason missed a lot of good C-dramas. So I just learn to appreciate and do selective watching XD Thank you for reading!
YES, I totally agree ! Many are so focus on seeing it as a lazy choice for the production team and overlooked the fact that their voices are actually very good. For this reason, I then drown myself into audio dramas where I can fully appreciate just their voice along with other voice-dubbing fans :D Thank you for reading!
Wait! So does that mean that Chinese dramas record visuals and voices separately ? Is this the case? I'm shell…
No ! They record everything together. You can actually hear them speaking their lines behind the scene. But, it is more preferable for them to voice dub over the audio in the original film post production. That is why you might see bad syncing sometimes. Thank you for reading anyway!
I've always noticed that the voicing was dubbed in c-dramas but never knew why exactly and now i have the answer…
I relate to you. Not every C-dramas have nice voice-dubbing but there were a lot of times I just sucked it in and ignored it because the storyline is interesting. You could try The Untamed as it is the drama that drew me into voice dubbing ;) Mainly because the voice portrays the character very well. Thank you for reading !
The rationale of dubbing to erase differences in accent just seems so ... unrelatable ... to me. In English film…
HAHA, yes, actually I also think that their production it's still lacking. But I am seeing improvements or not I wouldn't even attempt to touch C-dramas. Thank you for reading !
I don't like dubbing, to me acting doesn't feel genuine if i cannot hear actual actor's voice and emotion he's…
I kinda agree with you. It really do sound artificial but I've somehow come to like it. I realized that modern C-dramas sounded more artificial as compared to ancient/historical dramas. Therefore, I just avoid watching modern C-dramas and only watch historical dramas. Thank you for reading!
I'm personally not a huge fan of dubbing (especially with live action) and find it really cringe, I hope one day…
Yes, actually I totally understand you. I used to find voice dubbing really cringey too! Let me tell you a hack of mine. Try to avoid modern C-dramas. The voice dubbing in modern dramas somehow are not as good as the historical/ancient C-dramas. It also took me some time to like it. But now I start to appreciate it! And yes, usually it's the entire drama to sustain the quality :D Thank you for reading !
Sorry for being late with the reply but yeah waikiki is the funniest drama I watched. Even though I said its hard…
Awh, it sucks my mom don't watch Cdramas ;-; or I'll definitely make her watch the untamed too !! ( then I would tag along and watch it the nth time XD )
