Title My Mister
Just finished this series (I know I'm seriously late) and I'm now rubbing my eyes with a cold bottle of water…
Once you watch My Mister, you can't really look at any other show the same way, i totally understand that feeling.

Welcome to the club :)

And Make sure to check out this blog: https://givemeslippers.wordpress.com/

This blog is dedicated to My Mister and has awesome articles going a bit more into varies aspects of the series including the major thing; the relationship between Park Dong and Lee Ji An

I have watched the American version of the drama called "Night of" which aired on HBO. I have not watched the…
The American version (haven't seen UK version) was garbage though. As a mystery show, it was all over the place with so called "legendary" detectives failing to do any real detective-work. The mystery itself was super simple that was dragged out by the incompetence of the writers as well as the characters in the show.

As a show that wanted to comment on Justice system, it came across as comical and lazy with them intentionally making the character Pakistani and trying to bring up 911 (which is a serious topic for any brown person like myself and yes am also Pakistani) to lazily "explain" main character's "dark" past was just stupid beyond belief.

It's a definition of a lazy and fluff show that ultimately failed to be a character-drama, social commentary and a mystery show.

I have no doubt that Korean show can easily surpass it

I was worried after reading all the comments over the last month or so, that I might root for the SML. I’m on…
>He’s such a good guy that he didn’t try and push her to accept him in those 3 years Do San was away and in the end, it’s going to hurt his chances if he ever really had one.

That's why people love HJP's character lol.

He is someone that cares about the girl but not to push her to try and accept him. Which is why people were rooting for him.

>I feel for all of yinz who did feel he did enough and should be her choice

Nobody wants him to be her choice just because. This is about the writers very clearly building up a bond between characters only to shift that for the sake of a love triangle. The relationship between NDS and SDM doesn't really exist beyond the words that the writers try to shove in the audience's faces.

For people who have finished it; why do you like it and what makes this show great?

Legit curious as I have watched the first half of the show and I don't think I have ever hated the ML's (except for the brother) this much before as ML is just a failed attempt at making Lee Ji An (My Mister) but without any sort of complexity and is just one highly dislikeable mofo while the FL shows that she has been reading lots of 50 Shades with her constant flip-flopping and liking/being attracted to ML without any real reason other than they are ML's and somehow have to be together.

Is there any substance or anything interesting about it in the second half? I heard it was the voted as the best show of 2018 and like no offense to anyone but this is by far the weakest 2018 K-drama I have seen so far. My Mister, Mr. Sunshine, Sky Castle, Life, Live, Mother etc... all seemed far far far superior.

I already know the ending of the show so spoilers are fine and might actually help me decide whether I should continue it or just drop it altogether.

PS: Seen people say that the ending is sad and I was already wishing for *THAT* to happen 4 episodes in. Not sure if that tells you how I see this show.

I think most of the negativity of the show, you already mention in your post. From the regression of the ML, the…
I didn't start skipping until episode 10 (I loved the first 9 episodes a lot despite some annoying moments here and there) and even then, I didn't become aggressive when it comes to skipping until the time skip. I did sit through it a lot of it before getting annoyed as the "drama" between SDM and NDS started getting repetitive and classic dragged out romance 101. That's when I started skipping.

And your rating is fair. I simply can't deny that despite the huge problems as well as some really confusing/messed up morals of the show, it was really good. The lesser focused aspects certainly lifted up the show for me.

Hell, I loved SDM's character even though the writers clearly stripped her of that interesting and driven character to melo-romance object but anytime she interacted with her mother or sister or grandmother or HJP, it was simply a joy to watch.

And of course; my opinion is based on being familiar with the reviews and critical reception before I watched it.

>In the party

Not to mention that HJP IS the one that ultimately EVEN reached out to NDS in the first place to help SDM.

I love mysteries and all but I think SDM falling for NDS might actually the greatest mystery I have ever encoutered lol.

And that's absolutely fair.

When the show got to its lowest points/moment, it was REALLY low to the point that I had to skip which is something I usually don't do/haven't done so aggressively in any other K-Drama so far.

I can imagine myself hating the show if I had to watch it as it was airing and weren't already familiar with the reviews/flaws/unhealthy morals etc.....

Though the "sail without a map" was just a stupid thing to convey to any young person who maybe starting their business. I also didn't really like how petty and obessive NDS became when alone or around HJP but then never really showed it in front of other characters thus had no one point it out thus him basically being a very inconsistent character who kept on reacting or behaving in ways that were just weird.

I was already aware of the ending "choice" for the FL as well as what lots of people were saying about the second half, the romantic relationship and HJP that I just prepared myself and skipped most, if not all, "romance" or "drama" scenes between SDM and NDS and focused on those lesser focused-characters and I enjoyed the shit outta it.

That's why I don't understand the 1.5 or 5 rating for this show. I think, while it had lots of typical/lazy writing NDS + his friends were super annoying for majority, I think the shows strongest aspects/moments elevates the show for me. I think it's at least 7 or 8 for reaching those moments and of course having HJP in any scene was just a delight.

......I don't think I stated or implied anything else.....

Like yes, it's the writer's choice. And it was also the writer's choice to put a generic highly dislikable one-note character as the main lead AFTER already establishing Han Ji Pyeong as a main lead character that had far more characterization, individuality and overall was just more interesting to watch.

Nam Do San is a character that neither stands out nor works well without attaching him to other characters. Hence the romance plot-line otherwise nobody would watch to that character.

If he is the worst part of the show, then Han Ji Pyeong is the best part that, we as the audience, saw in the first episode only for that interesting and complex character to be replaced by someone that clearly couldn't hold the show together.

Just finished it a few mins ago and I actually really loved it so I don't understand all the hateful posts, to be honest.

Nam Do San was the absolute worst part of the show for me. And the way "relationship" (which we know is bullshit and only happened because FL and ML should be together by rule) between them was written, particularly in the second half, was definitely the show's absolute lowest points. But since I already knew about it and couldn't care less about their drama, I was able to skip their scenes together and focus on the characters like the mother, grandmother, Seo's sister, and of course Han Ji Pyeong which made the show special in my eyes.

It does suck that the show never really devoted time to those particular characters as they were easily the best part and all had strong characters journies. Instead of wasting time on NDS or his friends (who were just plot-devices at best and annoying background filler at worst), it should've shown the family of Seo as their stuff was REALLY REALLY great albeit short and skipped over.

Also shoutout to the fucking music of this show. It was ABSOLUTELY brilliant from the beginning to the ending. Red Velvet's "Future" and Gaho's "Running" were my favorites. Even as I type this, I'm listening to it.

The writers WANT you to feel as if Nam Do San is the lead but Han Ji Pyeong was very clearly intended to be the main lead given how the first episode focuses on him.

Nam Do San isn't even properly introduced in the first episode.

I would say come back to it later when you are comfortable.

It's definitely a show that shouldn't be missed especially when the show is about "healing" but it cannot get to that point without exploring why the characters "needs" healing.

I really want to breakdown this logic and post examples from your own post but I'm assuming that you have neither the brain-power nor the self-awareness to understand how ironic that statement is.

So I'm gonna just leave it at this point. Good luck!

Yet you have no problem replying with irrelevant posts to that said stranger.......

You are not very smart, are you? Like kid, I wasn't born yesterday. This "I can do it but I won't" is a pretty pretty pretty common lazy post that people on forums and reddit ulitize when they don't have anything to say on the core topic.

Which, in this case, is about female characters.

"Show; dont tell" is one of the most basic things taught in Highschool regarding writing. You, who supposedly teaches artistic capablities of cinema.......lol, don't even seem to know the absolute basics.........

>I used to teach students about the artistic value of movies by Woody Allen, Tarkovsky and Akira Kurosawa.

Would be cool if you can demonstrate that.

Since you know, critical "analysis" of art isn't about telling people that you write analysis but to actually provide that analysis, so to speak.

So far, all i see is bunch of empty words that have no real meaning. You should be used to having an actual discussion if you actually do what you are saying here.

> cinematography, anthropology, or neuroscience

None of which are relevant here since the discussion was about, you know, female characters in western media and SK-Drama. But ok, i guess.

I already watched around 9 or 10 episodes of Diary of a Prosecutor and liked what I saw so far. Surprised by how slow it was (not a bad thing, just surprised by it).

Dear my Friends is also something I watched but didn't really get hooked on it. Currently on episode 8. Will get through it some day....

But thanks for the other recommendations. They sound like series to watch in between the bigger and more intense titles.

>I hate UI as an actress and had to drop ALL the dramas with her. I don't think she can act at all, but very pretty as a girl.

So you have no idea of what I meant then.

Since you know, it requires you to have watched the thing I was praising.

>I had to drop Mr. Sunshine after watching it for 15 minutes. The most boring drama on earth. I found killing mosquitos more entertaining

So you have little to no attention span and are trying to say something about a show that you haven't even watched more than 20 mins of lol.

If this is meant to surprise me or shock me then color me surprised/shocked because you are absolutely clueless here.

>-Jo Kang Ja from Angry Mom
Watched Angry Mom. Not impressed.

So out of seven examples, you only know of one and can't even say much about them aside from "boring" which is practically the laziest form of "criticism".

Sounds like you are used to watching Marvel flicks or watching fluff romance that anything of actual substance bores you.

Which is fine and all but for someone that wants to wank on "I can understand what I watch, unlike you", you sure haven't seen to have demonstrated that.

>there are plenty of strong female characters. You are just watching the wrong movies.

This is the part where you post some examples to demonstrate that.

Or can act like some kid on Reddit and pretend to have any clue about what is actually being discussed here.

> I am a feminist, just like every educated, principled, and intelligent person on earth.

Sounds like a piss-poor feminist if the only thing you ever watched are some fluff romantic stuff.

Come back when you have watched something of substance and can actually understand what is being discussed here lol.

Fair enough.

I was just going by your watchlist though I obviously made the mistake of assuming that's all you have watched.

And I can definitely understand your point of view from having watched shows from that time. You obviously would have a better idea than me since you have seen the shows over the years as well as their improvement or lack of improvement.

So my mistake on that.
