To be honest, as someone who watched a lot of dramas and movies western and eastern. I haven't found any Kdrama to be true masterpieces.
In terms of masterpiece or wow factor, I find Korean movies vastly superior, with so much complexities and depth.
But what makes Kdrama enjoyable is the sweet warm chemistry between the leads, the nuanced acting, and the strong writing.
But yeah, compared to Korean movies, dramas are lacking in the masterpiece moments, most likely because dramas these days run so incredibly long that the writing tends to suffer somewhere along the way.
I think there is a chinese drama that has more comments, and it hasn't aired. I forget the name, but I remember…
Start Up used to be the king on MDL with 30k comments after show run ends.
I suspect due to Snowdrop not being on Netflix, it may not break much past 30k. Unless of course, people keep talking nonstop about the history distorting, then yeah skies the limits.
I am going to rate this drama when I finish watching. I am just curious how people rated a drama when it hasn't…
Quite common on MDL, but I do know that quite a few will change the rating as the episodes go, whether up or down.
There's only been two episodes, but there are already people wanting to rate it 10/10 and call it a masterpiece, just like there are people wanting to rate it 1/10 and call it a flop.
But that's just MDL in a nutshell.
I wouldn't use MDL rating system as a benchmark, it's been horribly flawed for a while now. Just read those well written and thought out reviews as basis and see if you agree with them.
If the show is good, you won't need MDL ratings to back those up.
My personal rating on dramas is heavily based on chemistry, acting and plot.
You can keep feel disgust, the drama still going to be continued, because IT'S NOT DISTORTION!
And that's your right. If you like the drama and it's cast, you can defend it with proper rhetoric and solid foundational arguments.
Any dramas will have people who dislike it for whatever reason, sometimes without basis. But if you back up your reasoning with sound logic, there is nothing they can say to refute it, IMO.
the statement could have been released before the drama aired. I feel, it's a publicity play.
Disney+ pricing at the moment is cheap enough. But it's content really is horrible. Unless you love kid shows, the adult content is seriously lacking. They are too concerned with creating more content on their IP's, that they are not branching out too much on original content or purchasing popular overseas shows, something that Netflix has been doing for a while and is currently milking.
I think the success of Squid Game, and the overall drop is subscriptions for Disney+ has made them look at the Asia market more favorably. They are now rushing to open Disney+ in more countries, and are ramping up production.
For their sake, hopefully Snowdrop becomes a ratings hit, they need a home run at the moment.
But yeah, it not being on Netflix kind of hurts Snowdrop's visibility.

I forget, but I remember it had something like 25k comments, and it hadn't aired yet. Not sure if it's because of controversy or something. I don't watch Cdrama's so I could not tell you what it was.
I realize now, that the whole controversy about Snowdrop is very similar to the controversy in the US about sports players kneeling during the National Anthem.
The reason for the kneeling has nothing to do with disrespecting the flag or US, or the sacrifices of US soldiers, but the general public did not see it this way.
Similar to how snowdrop has nothing to do with disrespecting the pro- democratic movement, but it's seen that way.
The solution, don't write a drama that can be easily misconstrued as something disrespectful, and you won't have any controversy. An easy task in theory, and yet writers seem to fall down this hole, over and over again.

I'm always like this, with any drama :D
I filter between MDL and other stuff.
Too bad it's not easy to watch, I'd be interested to watch this show.
I won't be commenting on the political aspect of the show, nor the distortion, as it's not a big deal for me.
And i've made my point regarding the poor form JTBC used to promote the show.
I hope they show this on Disney + North America so I can watch it. Otherwise I will wait and see the comments if the show is good or not and worth risking stream sites.
You do realize that the show started getting hate even before the show was even properly announced based on rumors.…
Really? I just feel it's not that big of a deal to be honest. I find sexual assault a much bigger trigger and reason for a career nosediving. Starring in a controversial drama should not cause a career to fail, it would not make sense to me.
I mean, Snowdrop is controversial, but it's not that controversial to sink careers. It's not like Jisoo is a pedophile, and we are supporting her drama.
I think your making too big of a thing with this whole historical distortion angle. Just my opinion.
And as has been said, Blue House approved it, so they probably felt pretty confident in it not being cancelled. And now they release a statement saying it wont' be cancelled. But not they are daring people to watch the rest of the show, to see if they really distorted history or not.

I think you are viewing any opinion that doesn't follow yours as a negative one. A dangerous slope IMO.
MDL is an open forum, and I will give my opinion as I see fit. You can block me if you want.
A baseless rumor is me saying that Snowdrop is just one giant propoganda piece by the Blue House to distort history and make the militaristic dictator look like an angel.
All I am saying is that JTBC is most likely loving all the clicks the controversy is giving them. And I stand by my opinion there.
Feel free to counter argue me it if you want, or you can just label me a hater. Or if you don't want to see me making "baseless rumors" or "opinions" the block button is free for you to use as well.
Actually applying controversy strategy is not really working as ppl nowadays mostly are educated and can tell…
Oh, I never said Disney is poor, but when they first created Disney+, they were so concerned that their content had to be in line with "Disney" culture.
I think they are slowly starting to realize that they need to be more edgy to compete with the other streaming giants.
I think because a lot of international are from Asia, they are responding as if it was their own cultural history…
I personally don't want to enter this political rabbit hole. Not that I don't care and don't affirm my position as a global citizen, but rather I don't want to claim to know better than people who as you say are currently experiencing distress.
Maybe to me, it's not a big deal, but if they think it is, they at least in their mind it is. Who am I to tell them to sit down and just not watch it? It's not my place.

Seems like small changes that would not affect the romance part of the story?
I assume this drama is more of a romance drama rather than a historical drama isn't it?

My issue is how JTBC uses controversy to create online buzz for the drama. It's bad form.
I mean, Snowdrop is controversial, but it's not that controversial to sink careers. It's not like Jisoo is a pedophile, and we are supporting her drama.

Kind of meh tactics to me.

Disney has been dropping the ball on their own content a few times now, they have had some great ones, but some floppy ones as well.
I think they are slowly starting to realize that they need to be more edgy to compete with the other streaming giants.
