Here's a little post to shed a different light on the PM, who seems to be much maligned in the show.
The show establishes a contrasting view of Monarchy in the show. Although Corea is set in modern times, the monarchial system implemented here is that of medieval times. Which means, two major things, the KING has absolute power, and succession is determined by blood. To be exact, the power system in Corea seems similar to the ones we see in the show GOT, at least in terms of the powers of the king. But the rest of the system, with regards to Cabinet members, party politics and etc... seem to have been modeled after current monarchial governments. So it is a little confusing to see the two types of government melded together.
Modern monarchy has gone thru drastic changes in the past 100 years or so, the Monarchy does not have a lot of power, in fact, they are merely figureheads, and serve mostly ceromonial tasks. The show the Crown, over emphasizes the role of the Monarchy, but it's a TV show, so some liberties were taken, whic is to be expected. Queen Elizabeth DOES not have the authority to declare war on any country, it's just not in her realm of power. Nor does the Prime Minster brief the royal family on every single decision they undertake.
The way I perceived LG is that he is a spoiled royal, who does not really want to deal with the more complicated nuances of his role. In fact, I quote in the MDL description of the show.
"Today, instead of respecting his filial duty, he prefers to escape the palace to attend university conferences."
This is also what I perceive from LG, he has the time to do dragonboat rowing, ride Maximus his horse, travel through dimensions, go to basketball games, and etc... But we don't actually him do actual work related to running a country, because he has the PM there to take care of the more "boring" side of being a ruler. In fact the only time we see him at his "office" is when he does these friday repors with the PM, which he hates by the way. Basically, he wants all the power, respect, prestige of being King of Corea, but wants absolutely nothing to do with the hard work that comes with being the commander in chief.
Also, we don't see much growth in LG, how many times has he said, oh, I don't know, I didn't bother to ask. This is the fate of a spoiled rich royal, who has lost so much touch with the common people. This is a stark contrast to our PM, who wasn't born into royalty.
And when people say they knew the PM was shady from episode 1, I had a much different impression. What I initially thought was that maybe the King and PM dated once, because rather than ambitious she seem to act like a jilted ex. Also, she is very aware of what it takes to be an effective politician, which includes backroom deals, releasing scandals to denounce an opponent, and etc... Watch ANY political show whether western or eastern, and it's the same thing, there are no honest politicans. So what she is doing is really just par on the course.
The PM wanting to know what is happening with the King makes perfect sense because how is the PM suppose to do her job if the commander in chief is not around? Imagine the press secretary of the white house, talkign to the media, where Trump is, and she can't answer because trump went to the parallel world and she doesn't know when he'll be back. It's the same thing here, the PM needs to be on top of these things.
So it's regretful where the writer took our PM in the last few episodes. I am hoping for some redemption for her in the end, because I can absolutely relate to her frustrations, having to deal with a child like LG, who knows nothing about running a country.
BTW, it totally touched my heart in that one episode when the PM goes to her mom's shop, and goes to her room and lies down, because I felt that was the only time she felt she could put her guard down, with the only person who accepts her and doesn't judger her, the mom.
The thing is you people are saying Lee Gon doesn't treat her as equal that is wrong he respects her. But she annoys…
it's the other way around. In modern day, Kings and Queens are the figureheads, and PM are the ones with all the power, but a PM's power is not absolute.
In old timey Monarchy, ie. Game of Thrones, yeah King/Queens have absolute power.
The only current government system with absolute power are dictatorship, whether it be hard or soft dictatorship.
If KTEM was a sangeuk then, there is no doubt it's GOT style monarchy, but since it's in modern times, it becomes confusing.
This is a mistake. Maybe it makes sense to give the impression of a non-linear chronology. But the problem is,…
I think this adds to the confusing feeling many viewers feel. I mean, what do you even call these scenes? Flash backs? Flashbacks from a different perspective?
I absolutely hated in EP 12, when they replayed the part where LG charge into with his horse, because the second time it happened, I felt zero emotions lol. They even included the slow motion hug. Like, if your going to replay a supposed emotional scene do it in the first 1 minute, not like 5-7 minutes from the start.
These 5-10 minute recaps irk me, because sometimes I ask myself, is this the right episode, or what's happening now.
One poster mentioned LG is in love with the picture of TE. So the way I see it, my analogy would be like this. It's like LG went on Match.com and saw this super fly, heavily photoshopped profile pic of TE. Then all of a sudden she disappears from Match.com for 25 years. And he's like obsessed with her profile pic, and even made up an image of what this girl is like when he finally finds her, "oh she has a ponytail, must mean she's the girl next door" Oh she's wearing a blue blazer, she must not care about fashion much" Stuff like that. And he's become so obsessed with the profile pic, that even though the real TE is nothing like his imagined TE in his head, he doesn't care, since he finally captured his obsession.
I feel KES could have stopped and treated PM like any other 2nd FL, and show that the king never liked/loved her, and she becomes bitter. But she took it a step further and lambasted, discredited, the PM character, ALL so that she can show watch a great person TE Is.
A writer shouldn't need to assassinate one character to show how great another one is.
I like the PM, she came from an impoverished background, so I can understand her ambition. She pries into the…
yeah, I literally rolled my eyes lol
She was being respectful and giving him a chance to be honest, but typical omnipotent LG.
I wish her role wasn't prime minister, it was an insult to PM the world over. They should have given her some fake role like Country Manager, or something lol.
Yeah, but based on what we know from LG, do you think that if TE was queen, he will allow her to influence him?
In all the scenes i've seen, not once has LG said, you know TE, that's what I like about you, your this and this. Or that and that. Or are we shown that he in even amazed on how good of a fighter she is.
Lee Gon's Thoughts on Women in General
It's all damsel in distress i'm coming in with a tank to save you Sure TE you can fight, but i'm better Yes TE, I am that rich. Yup, I am super smart too Yes I am a fantastic cook. Yes, everyone in Corea loves me You have a father TE? Well I don't need to meet him since i'm bringing you to Corea anyway Wait, did I ask you if you wanted to leave the other world to be my queen? Nah, I don't need to, cuz i'm the boss Isn't Corea way better than your world TE? I could go on, but i'll stop here lol
The way KTEM views the PM
Lol, she's from poor family, how the heck did she become PM Lol, keep wearing makeup, lol, strong woman, know your place Lol, all you do is wear that weird skin helmet thing (shows 3 times now) Lol, so desperate for king love lol, do your job and don't mind kings matter, even if those matters affect your job.
What's wrong with this comment section? I'm looking for review stuffs to decide wether I want to continue this…
You should not have to read the review section to enjoy a show. Fact of the matter is, if all you want is to say, this show is so great, I am swooning over LG and TE, then there are many places you can do so. This comment section has become a meeting place for people to discuss fan theories, confusing parts, and criticize the show. So that is what you will see mostly.
I just finished episode 7 and the story is becoming rediculous. I don't know why but the female Prime Minister…
I like the PM, she came from an impoverished background, so I can understand her ambition. She pries into the kings life because eventho she is PM, the highest position in the concept of monarchy we know, she has no power, and the king hides EVERYTHING from her, making her job even harder. Plus the King constantly lies to her also, imagine trying to be the lawyer or doctor of a client/patient, but your client keeps lying to you and your being second guessed by everyone, and people keep bringing up the fact that you came from a poor family. yeah, that's going to be fun.
They just wrote her to the ground, an otherwise interesting character. It sucked she had to pine for the King, because that is where all the power lay. She can seriously do so much better than LG.
Fact of the matter LG doesn't see women as his equal, and you can see this in the way he treats TE.
Here's the thing I don't understand. In one episode we are shown that the prime minister is voted in by the people, or at least the corean political party to represent them, like how Hilary was voted to represent democrats.
But then in the other hand, we see that the King is pretty much an omnipotent all powerful King that had one scene which showed he picked the PM, and thus "backed" her up.
In olden times, the concept of a monarch with this kind of power existed. We see this in GOT for example. And that time of olden monarch typically would be in charge of choose the staff. Like in GOT the King, and only him, chooses the Hand, Master of Ships and etc..
So I think there is that contradiction here, where there are two forms of monarchial power, and the writer chooses certain ones at different times to support her plot.
But the encompassing tone we get is that the PM has no power, and is no more than someone to do the things the King finds "boring". But the minute the king takes interest in it, regardless of what the PM and cabinet decides, the King just overrules it.
Also another thing that doesn't make sense to me is why the PM wants to be queen. Does she think she'll have power when she's queen? Heck, even TE won't have power when she's queen. She'll just be LG arm candy, and follow whatever the King says. Unless PM was planning on marrying LG, then killing him? That would be the only thing that makese sense.
I kind of delayed watching since it was so bad SBS delayed an episode to air a movie released months ago...The…
I am a big fan of PM, the actress is superb, I want to watch her drama The Guest, but I dont like horror/suspense type.
And I was also not a fan of the 180 of the prime minister, since the whole time, we see her being humanize. She's close to her mom, she cares about the people, she's smart to figure out LG was gone since the beginning, and she holds her ground, eventho she's being disrespected by literally everyone, especially LG, and I love it that she stands up to the king.
I"m half expecting the last 3 episodes to just be flashback after flashback of behind the scenes things we didn't see to make us emphatize/hate certain characters.
I'm curious, am I the only one that doesn't like how KTEM after the end of each episode, rather than continue from that point on in the next episode, they spend roughly 10-15 minutes to replay what happened the previous episode end with new scenes.
These recap scenes last so long, that often i forget what happened before. And these scenes i've found serve no purpose but act as filler. This was especially apparent i episode 11-12, so much filler.

But I'd like an explanation for this, was it to make LG look cool? I thought he was a bad shot.
I don't think it had the the desired effect.
TE says, there are two more bullets left in the gun, LG takes the gun and shoots to the side.
First question
Why?
Second question,
Shouldn't you shoot up, shooting to the side, can kill random innocent people?
Just curious, I think I am missing something.
I'm still hoping PM has a good ending, she's the one i'm rooting for! lol And Shinjae also of course!
I may be alone in this case, but w/e hahaha
I'm also secretly hoping for the downfall of the Monarchy in Corea
Well, she's the best dressed female in the show, gotta make sure she keeps modelling those clothes and shoes, hahaha!

So with that same vein, you should not read film critics articles, or articles about low ratings, since that would have the same effect.

Time Travel/parallel worlds? Try Steins:gate not a drama, but i can't stop recommending this.
Love Story? Most Kdrama are love stories
By lots of knots you mean lots of plot twist? This drama doesn't have a lot of them, the story is quite simplistic.
GOT has lots of twist, I would watch the 24 series also.
But then in the other hand, we see that the King is pretty much an omnipotent all powerful King that had one scene which showed he picked the PM, and thus "backed" her up.
