To be honest I hope they won’t turn PJE good if he won’t get the girl at the end. I hate when they make us…
I think his whole 'I wanna change' is a big-ass pretense. He will be pissed at her for sabotaging his 'thing' with the ex. He also took a massive blow to his ego by being dumped by Nabi post the police-station incident. If this is a part of his elaborate scheme for revenge, then it is EXACTY going down the webtoon route :)
whenever i defend nabi she goes and embarrasses me the next scene
The ex is a bitch here, but she was a sweetie in the webtoon. so her comment on the 'hair up in a ponytail' seems savage here, but was REALLY embarrassing in the webtoon. Girl, stop being so desperate, attacking other women for a PoS guy. And HOW embarrassing was it she picked METAL as her material for the final studio-project? Ugh, girl... get yourself a CLEAN BREAK.
nabi: fully knows jaeon is a fuckboy, has open relationships and doesn’t date and just wants casual sex yet…
what nabi should have said instead: hey, i thought i could do this casual, 'non-exclusive sleeping-arrangement by the night, and friends by the day' thing. but turns out i can't. while there is nothing to end between us, i do hope we can remain friends and you stop making bedroom-eyes at me, invading my personal space, and getting into my head, 24/7. if you think you can stick to your lane, and not tempt me to cross over from mine all the damned time, then gimme a call if you still wanna meet up as friends. BYE! :)
I think this drama has really opened my eyes about how stigmatized non traditional relationships are. I still…
I definitely missed the indie-vibes in today's episode. If that's anything to go by, they'll for sure go down the cliched 'bad boy changes for sweet girl' route. T_T
'Park Jae-Eon changing' is going to be the ultimate red-herring, you guys! Or how else do you think they gonna up the ante and keep milk the psychological tag on this show? :')
Exactly! I'm surprised more people aren't flooding the recs with similar j-dorama concepts. But then again, k-drama watchers hardly watch j-dorama! T_T
Hey Cho Na... I was wondering in the recent years... doggos and pets have become almost like an MC! Like a wingman for our ML/ Main Couple of sorts :) I also think they are increasingly becoming one of the most cherished & memorable characters of the show.. like RangYirang (the samoyed) from My Little Happiness, Wealth (the Corgi) from Love is Sweet, Er Gou (a bearded collie) from Moonlight, Kitty/ Uri (the ragdoll kitten) from Because This is My First Life, and now Kouzi being the MVP of Kikazaru... <3
Sometime 2 weeks post-finale, I predict a Soompi article would be headlined: 'After overthrowing the reigning-champions of max YouTube views on steamiest k-drama scene, the co-stars of Nevertheless are headed to work next with the legendary Secretary-Kim couple.'
>>I'm oddly tickled to realize, for their next projects, So-Hee's signed with Park Seo-Joon, and Song Kang is signed with Park Min-Young!!<< xD xD Imagine going to the first day at work, and being like... 'Sorry, Sunbae-nim!' xD
Like to mention this: in Korea, there is still this archaic policy where only the 'wronged' party can ask for…
I watched both this and the original japanese version! The latter is even more heartbreaking. But I loved how ‘less than ideal/perfect’ romance aka how it happens in ‘real life’ is getting shown on-screen. Just like real, un-photoshopped women are being featured in all their glory on swimwear and lingerie editorials. I am glad this change is happening… better late than never :)
Thank you for this article! The controversy is non-existent: it really boils down to the reason why people are…
Like to mention this: in Korea, there is still this archaic policy where only the 'wronged' party can ask for a divorce, i.e. someone who has been cheated on. This is to prevent philandering men (or partners) from kicking out their wives, and getting themselves a younger, hot wife. This is literally the plot of this drama called 'Love Affairs in the Afternoon.' Hence, you can imagine, if your spouse doesn't cheat on you, or abuse you, but you fall out of love with them, you're still stuck. Imagine, how many unhappy women are there stuck in marriages they can't escape from. Hence, I believe... like you said, exceptionally high levels of dissatisfied women in marriages are Koreans.
OMG.. Hello, Bestie! 18 Again is my favorite drama too!^^
First of all, AMAZING effort for a first-time article, super professional. Love how you presented most of it from a neutral PoV (instead of fangirl-spazz, which is so hard to do especially if you really like a show!) :) K-dramas for me was becoming stale. I mean, the Korean take on a Disney-Prince as their ML is still digestible to me at a certain-level, but I just couldn't get beyond relationship-milestones taking place at certain episode-numbers. It became so, sooo formulaic! I just couldn't ignore the trend and pattern anymore. 'Nevertheless,' is thus, a welcome-watch! The direction & cinematography, for a large portion of the drama, swings towards the more 'serious film-making' style. The Director is a woman, and it's clearly evident in some scenes. This drama had me by the heart, right from the opening-credits, which looks like a home-made film shot by rookie art-students on a hand-cam. The OSTs, bgm, score, etc is all *chef's kiss*!! Having no exposure to the webtoon when the announcement was made, I took the 'psychological' tag very lightly. I wondered how could it be done for a YA romance? But they are milking the psychological angle pretty-well, and I think that's the USP of the show, because it's so unexpected! The plot-progression is almost similar to 'serious, arthouse doramas & movies' from Japan, which has a more 'liberal' view on 'relationships' compared to the Korean society. I love the character-designs here: everybody is detailed enough to be real-people, yet generic enough for us to inject ourselves and people we know, into this story! Ugh, I was not expecting this Netflix drama to check so many boxes, but I'm all for pleasant surprises! <3 So far, I see immense potential, so I hope the writers don't reverse-gear into a predictable trajectory!
First of all, their actions are always super confusing, going back and doing stuff that contradict what they uttered…
What a catch-22. JE is too evasive and nonchalant at times. He allows himself to care only as much as will give him something out of it. And Nabi is too prideful, pessimistic and insecure for these two to ever work out, unless they can sort out their mental and personality issues first.
Also, being treated well, is a two-way street. You can't expect to bail-out at your convenience, and expect a relationship to work.
Guys like JE make better friends than boyfriends. :)

Ps. Thank you for sharing Kouji's insta! She's a precious lil' baby! :3
Beautiful article.. will come back to it once I'm done watching :')
