nooo both nana should have a similar namethis is a huge point of the work
I'm pretty sure Yang Zi and Nini are both actresses who are being pitched for by the user Car Man (and not the heroine's chinese names). Osaki's character is still called 'Nana', although Hachi might be renamed 'Wei Wei'. Luckily, Reira is still 'Reira'... [Cuz of the Eric Clapton song, remember?]
agreed if this works it could be a super long show but so many factors tbh Im scared of no name casting 20 year…
>>agreed if this works it could be a super long show<< A 50-episode anime with a 22-min runtime is 1,100 mins. If made into a c-drama, which runs for 45mins per ep, would mean a minimum 25 episode length. Sitting at 36-eps, I think it's a good indication we'll get good character growth (albeit at the expense of a prolonged angst-arc)... but it also means they might be able to deliver the original ending as planned by Yazawa-sensei, which she never could draw herself. 36 doesn't mean excess filler... Please let's be positive on this. ^^
About 20 y/o being casted... I'd rather have actors looks the age-frame than 30 y/o familiar with the Manga... because 20 y/o can more convincingly sell me 'vulnerabilities' and 'mistakes of the youth'.
>>I would be fine with someone from Hong Kong if more edge<< It's a nation-wide casting-call. I think Hong-Kong and Taiwan based youngsters have a fair-shot at the auditions, as much as a Mainland-er.
>>tbh Im scared of no name casting 20 year olds<< Don't worry, they have months-long acting and musical boot-camp following their selection. They are originally required to be familiar with the instruments their characters play in the Manga. Which means they won't be playing the instrument or the first time on-camera.
They are already doing many things right, including the fact that Yazawa-sensei is on board. Let's keep our hopes up, okay? :) :*
The Hikaru no Go cdrama adaptation was really really good though :'(
Oh dear dear. I'm waiting to dig out more updates for NANA's screenwriters (atleast the director is a fan, and is always involved with female-centric projects) <3 The fact that they already changed Takumi's instrument from a bass guitar to a synth, worries me SO much T_T
Oh wow this is amazing news!! Can't wait to see what they make of this adaptation.
Yup, super happy with the casting process. Nobody has been 'offered the script' and it's a nationwide casting-call followed by an acting/ musical boot-camp (>1 month). Super pumped <3
The Hikaru no Go cdrama adaptation was really really good though :'(
HOW can you sign up to be a part of a creative-team for a product you DONT believe in? How can Xianxia and Xuanhuan be *below* someone? Is he secretly a Wuxia-purist? :O Anyhow, I'm convinced A. people will sign up for *anything* JUST to make some quick-money and B. if the screenwriter/ director is a *fan* of the original work, then the final-product will be amazing (look at Word of Honor!) ^^
Then again, nation-wide casting call is *very* rare for an IP. Followed by an acting/ musical boot-camp? I don't…
Another tragedy. However, I'm pinning my hopes on nation-wide auditions and acting/musical boot-camp. Has never been done before for any of the IPs you mentioned.... so that is literally what is keeping me sane about an adaptation from c-drama land which might possibly screw it up! T_T Guess only time will tell :')
A chinese IP is the worst of it's kind and this is coming from me who loves Chinese dramas. I mean, they mess…
Then again, nation-wide casting call is *very* rare for an IP. Followed by an acting/ musical boot-camp? I don't think that has ever happened. :O Nana is rated 9.2 on Douban (with a rabid fan-base in the country who has a massive respect for the original work), plus the acting-auditions tell me that they are taking things seriously... They wouldn't invest so much time, money and efforts *just* to butcher the IP. [At least that's what I would hope, lol!] All the above you mentioned are domestic IPs, and I would place NANA in the same category as Hikaru no Go (Japanese manga-based IP, again with the author involved in the creative team). I hear HnG's adaptation received good reviews from the manga-ka as well... so let's pray they do things right this time too :')
FURTHER UPDATES FROM THE AUDITION POSTER & WEIBO:1. The c-drama is going to be an IP adaptation.2. Candidates…
Well, just like the characters here, we are on semi-masochistic tendencies already :P I too decided I won't relive my heartache, but I'm too involved now. Like all those years back. Ps. those who know how c-drama work, know that nation-wide auditions is VERY rare. Only brilliant movie-directors like Zhang Yimou have done it before. Month-long boot-camps after the audition has *never* been heard of. Which goes onto tell *how* serious is the director and casting team about this (as i think about it, it calms my nervous heart a little) <3
Nana Osaki's character is named Nana. Nana Komatsu's character is named Wei Wei (ugh why?) Reira is still Reira, thankfully (cuz she's named after the Eric Clapton song, lmao!) ~~~
FURTHER UPDATES FROM THE AUDITION POSTER & WEIBO:1. The c-drama is going to be an IP adaptation.2. Candidates…
No problem... :D IP is short for Intellectual Property. In c-drama lingo, basically, any piece of literary work that is filmable, financeable, marketable and admirable. Usually, 90% of China's dramas are adapted/ based-off from some webnovel/ webtoon/ fan-fiction/ comics/ books/ games, etc, but the moment you get the 'IP' tag slapped on you, it automatically gets attention/ publicity/ high traffic (idol) actors (no they don't have to be 'idols' in the k-pop sense) as the industry recognizes its commercial market value since Day1. But not every IP-adaptation is for cheap thrills. Some critically acclaimed (serious) works like Nirvana in Fire (1 and 2) are also IPs. :D Oh, ps. the prod team needs to acquire rights and license to the intellectual property. Loose-adaptations/ spinoffs and un-official adaptations won't be IP....
I have only watched StartUp and True Beauty out of the 5... Wholeheartedly agreed :P Great first attempt... I love your formatting too! <3 Part 2 please :) Edit: It's 2021 and I think we need technology to grab food out of our screens. Those cookies look yum! :'D
It's happening guys!!!!!Saw the posters for casting-call. They have started auditioning for all 20 year-old main-lead…
FURTHER UPDATES FROM THE AUDITION POSTER & WEIBO: 1. The c-drama is going to be an IP adaptation. 2. Candidates who apply are required to be musically talented. 3. They have to send in a talent show video: (vocals, dance, dramatic and instruments. 4. All characters' visual description has been given, and actors are supposed to pass the 'height/ weight' check as well (application to include a full body shot in addition to 5 head-shots) The order of casting is: Nana, Hachi, Takumi and Ren (or vice versa), Reira, Yasu, Shin and Nobu.
Naoki's casting hasn't been announced (which means he's a supporting/ minor character). There is no mention of a Trapnest bassist, and is instead now on a ~synth~ Wonder if that is Takumi or Ren... (sorry folks, auto-translate has its limits!) T_T

MORE UPDATES: 1. The Director is a 40 y/o but *also* a fan of the original work, and has read it. 2. The Casting-call posters mention that ALL actors picked for will receive months worth of training, before commencing the shooting. The main list of casting-call lists Hachi as the second-billed. Therefore, actors must be attending not just a musical boot-camp, but also an acting one. 3. Plus, the manga-ka is on the creative team. HOLYYYYYY! OMG~
