Sometimes, for artists, being able to freely share and express your creativity and creations means more than making money. I feel like many writers and producers and trying to push through the censorship oppression in any small way they can and I respect their efforts ✌️

The ending of the series is open to a certain amount of interpretation I think, and it also comes down to what a viewer might prefer to believe. Some, like myself, will take the ending as it came across, basically a censorship cop out, in which they made Lanzhu 'not real' and it was all a comatose dream Jiushu had, in order to suit the 'no homo' agenda of Chinese media, especially since the male leads were 100% into each other and it was obvious.

Others will take the ending as there being another reality that Jiushi had to recreate a connection to, which took him 50 years to do, but he managed in the end before he died, and I suppose he lived on as a program or virtual being in that scenario.

It all depends on what makes sense to each person and how they prefer to interpret it. I personally disregarded the last 8 minutes of the series completely because I think the ending where Jiushi says he wants to recreate the Spiritual Realm was perfect, and it ties in quite nicely with the novel ending, which was not censored and was perfect for the story.

Tbh, I think in the series they used it as a token of interest/affection given from Lanzhu to Jiushi, especially since they changed it to a ring of all jewelry choices. Because of their choice, and when and how it's given, the reason they couldn't address it to much was probs because of censorship and all that.

But as a person who's read the novel, I viewed it as being a token, but also a tracking device, because Lanzhu does find Jiushi a few times inexplicably in the series.

It's not addressed at all in the show for whatever reason, but yes, basing it on the exchange in the novel (which was very significant) but used a different piece of jewelry, Lanzhu got the item from a previous door, it's a prop for use inside the Door World. You ever wonder how come Lanzhu always shows up right when Jiushi might be in trouble? It's meant to be because of that ring. It's like a tracking device (that is, basing an answer off the reason a piece of jewelry was given in the novel, it lines up.)

I'm not sure there's any real way to know if LJS is wearing it most of the time inside the Door World, what with how he dresses so layered all time and because he wears it under his clothes (as seen in ep 2). But also, props expire, so the ring probably disappeared after being used too many times.

Preference is a fair statement. Personally, I wouldn't be able to stand someone tryna be in my business 24/7, love interest or not, so that's why Xiao Yuan annoys me 😂

I like this show, it has a lot of great points, but I won't lie and say Xiao Yuan doesn't annoy me most of the time. He's too pushy and doesn't have an understanding of basic boundaries when it comes to Wei Qian. I actively find myself wanting Wei Qian to shove him away and tell him to respect personal space. I'm on ep 10 and STILL catching secondhand discomfort and irritation on Wei Qian's behalf whenever Xiao Yuan is up in his face, especially since up to the point I've watched, Wei Qian last told him 'no'.

I expect the dynamic will shift soon, but Xiao Yuan's personality is not likeable no matter which way I look at it.

It's not exclusively LQS's POV, we get glimpses of other's POV's in the moments and through their words and actions, but predominantly yes, it's LQS who is at the head of the story's lead. Also with the exception of some extras after the main novel, it's his narrative too. RNZ's POV is shared a little more in the extra's.

TS is absolutely obvious imo. They really said 'let's make Lanzhu plainly in love from the very first ep, we'll do as much eye f*cking as possible and we'll sprinkle some not too subtle flirting and romantic words here and there; i.e: go hard (as hard as they can with censorship) or go home' 😂
